Someone wrote a comment system which I haven't known before:
https://github.com/adtac/commento

BlogC++ supports it now. :)

That looks cool!  Thanks for sharing.  My only reservation is spammers.  Don't see a way to limit them as of yet.

Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: Mini Review of jAlbum web site creator.

I used it years ago, (5+, when it was free), to create a simple website which I then butchered for the genealogists in the family, needed a site to display a journal transcription.

The last free version is still available here.

I'd thought it was free!  I used it years ago when creating an album for my travels.  Didn't want to host on one of the available platforms, so just did it myself.  It was really easy, and as said in the review, made a perfectly functional site.

A few questions: If you do not use and have no use for Linux, why do you have a USB device that must be formatted for a Linux file system?

I think that was answered in the original post...

Also I do not wish to use Linux, but  -have- to use it for 1 specific task only.

He didn't go into what it was for, but I figured that was all the specification needed...

I'm sorry I didn't catch this earlier.. I remind you all: No political spats on this forum, from any side.

Arizona Hot, barney, Shades, Target, panzer -- you should all know better.  STOP.

I'm sorry I didn't notice the first post that started this so I could have put a stop to it earlier.  The next time someone sees a post against or for a politician or political party or political ideology, please message me.  It's just not something we do here.

Should they be removed?  Or leave them for posterity.  Started here: https://www.donation....msg417434#msg417434

@Deozaan, your logo links to a non-https image, could that be the cause of your issue?

I think you're onto something; the security notice states that some images are not secure, and that attackers may be able to see the images you view from the site.

UPDATE: Actually, his logo seems to be hosted onsite, but the images in his .sig are not, and are not secure.

We are rushing towards AI to easy our daily work pressure. May be we should stop and ponder

Agreed ...(I'm totally with you and Steve)... Instead of continuously trying to find more and better ways of pushing the multitasking/information overload envelope, people really should just slow down a bit and breath. Otherwise we're just going to end up being a society full of heavily medicated 30 something burnouts.

There are good things and bad things about any technological advancement.  Considering the ethical ramifications just should in my opinion be part of the process, rather than an afterthought.  This wouldn't require slowing down IMO, just a different way of thinking about the design process.  I think that social media is in many ways worse than anything we could ever do with AI.  The societal ramifications weren't considered- just money and connections and information.  And now, there's a morass because of that lack.

Truthfully, I stopped following.  They're still going, but I just take the blog posts with a grain of salt, and promptly forget it.

They have been pushing on the legislative front, and have apparently conquered that battle or are close to it in every state.

They have been active, but there's been no "state of the Elio" in quite a while, so your assessment is quite correct.  It seems they're trying to keep momentum on the hype front, while showing little of where the finish line is.  It's not in production is all I can say.

Have you unblocked the .exe?  When someone downloads a .exe that microsoft doesn't know about that contacts the internet, sometimes they block the .exe.  Also check in the event viewer to see if there is other information that might allow mouser to debug it.

I dunno. I just think it's a common sense statement. There's not really anything else the SEC can do, due to the uncensorable nature of cryptocurrencies. Even if they try to regulate cryptocurrencies, it kind of can't be done. If someone is determined to buy or sell crypto, there's nothing a law or regulation can do to prevent that or even make it especially difficult for someone to do.

We know that.  They don't.  They think they can regulate anything.  Especially if enough FUD is generated.  And using their simple tactics of very minimal power, it's likely they could brute force it.

I think the solution for ransomware is to just make regular backups of everything that's important. If you get hit by some ransomeware, just format everything and restore from backup.

There are so many free (or inexpensive) cloud services available that the only real excuse (for the average person) for not having good backups is ignorance (e.g., not knowing how, or not understanding the risks) or apathy (e.g., laziness, understanding the risks but not caring or not thinking they're probable).

As for me, I fit in the laziness category. :D

Free services?  I haven't made images and just back up my critical files (documents, code) because of the fact that I've not found one that I (a) trust to be around (b) that's reasonable.  Doing it on my own servers is a lot more work and cost because of the need for more infrastructure at home.

That's the reason I run anti-ransomware.  I wouldn't be crippled by it long term and wouldn't lose critical files, but it would be a pain to get up and running.
1888
We really are getting into an era where the cure is worse that the disease more often than not.

I don't think we're there for ransomware.  Which is the reason I keep running it.  I don't really think I need it.  But my server got hit with it (through an RDP exploit) last year, and that experience is making me leery...

Interesting...

https://www.engadget...ocurrency-investors/

So... The government wants to "protect us" from the very thing that is supposed to protect us from the (fiat currency) government. o_O

Yeah, I don't get it. The SEC is saying "buyer beware," which is a basic tenet of cryptocurrency. Crypto puts the responsibility and ownership back in your own hands. But I guess this non-news is useful for people who have no idea what cryptocurrency is or how it works, and are just jumping on the bandwagon because they keep hearing about how much Bitcoin (and others) keeps going up.

Well, I didn't know if it was a scare tactic, a note that they couldn't regulate it, or a prelude to them trying to regulate it, based on "consumers losing money".

Didn't work  That screen grab was from an admin aacount. And it always gave me some error related to the fact that there was no owner, than an access denied. I tried takeown, accesschk, takeown as the system user, icacls, some tool that I downloaded and forget the name of- in other words I did all of the obvious things.

Thinking on it from tge perspective of a developer, what is the one thing you can do to always give an access is denied message- put a lock on a file.  Then no one can change the file unless you remove the locks, and I didn't think to check that.
1891
Is the Admin account on your system not capable of changing ownership of files and/or folders?  This account is by default disabled, but enabling it is done in a second or so.

Again, they had removed (or apparently changed to an account that they created) the ownership.  The admin account couldn't access it either, as all rights had been removed.

^ Same here.  Got it for $0.99 on sale, and it works as advertised.  So far, I like it.  Easy to create, relate, annotate (with text and images), and categorize data points.  Also has the ability to export, and a selling point to me, is that one of the export options is a plain text HTML document, optionally with images.  I can work with this.

If i need to get the
maps on the other device, i just save these to "onedrive" and i'm good to go...

I'm of the same opinion.  I'm even trialing it now in a folder in dropbox, and it seems to work fine.
1895
You should just be able to take ownership of the file and then renable inheritance (and/or assign whatever permissions you like/need) for it.

Nope.  The owner was set to nothing, and since there was no owner and I didn't have permissions, I couldn't take ownership.

I did keep going as this was pretty critical and figured it out with the help of Malwarebytes techs.

I disabled antiransomware, and it restored the permissions.  Then I was able to enable it, and with the exclusions in place it didn't detect it.  With that work around in place, it makes it a lot less questionable what they did, but it did almost give me a heart attack.  I was up until 2 AM my time trying before I gave up.

Also for anyone interested, the logs are there- they just don't show up in the protection log.  You have to look in C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\MBAMService\ArwDetections to see if it's there.  If it's not, it's in the mbamservice.log located in C:\ProgramData\Malwarebytes\MBAMService\LOGS

First a disclaimer: I run malwarebytes.  I don't really think that given my habits its a necessity, but I do it anyway.  Mostly for ransomware as my server got hit with it a while ago, though it wasn't user error, rather an exploit of RDP.  That was a real nightmare, so I continue to run it.

I was installing some things in msys2 and hadn't thought to exclude my dev tools directory.  MB incorrectly identified Pacman.exe as ransomware, and removed all rights from the file, and changed the owner to noone.  I have now added an exclusion, but is there a way to reverse the actions of MB, i.e. make pacman accessible?  Deleting it wouldnt' have been worse than this.

I really don't want to start from scratch with a new installation of msys2.  Does anyone know of a way to regain access to a file that's been locked down like this?

Have you tried to contact the maintainers?

They might be able to correct the issue rather than creating a new package, especially if you're not as familiar with the platform.

Are you sure it's not your connection or something transient?  I tried it for Star Wars Rebels and received the correct results.

Update: I get it.  You don't mean for the series information or anything within the application- you mean the uri when you go to https://www.thetvdb.com/.  The whole site appears to be down, so I don't think he's going to be able to do anything about it.  Perhaps it will come back up, or he might change providers possibly.

Update 2: It seems to be a problem with the site.  There's a thread about it on their forums: https://forums.thetv...t=39984&start=20
