Is activation that big of a deal? I have never had an activation related problem that wasn't self-spurred.

So, basically, it's another case of "Look at the URL before visiting"?

Are you kidding mousey? Acrobat is one of the BETTER applications I use. People will continue to complain that it is "bloated" but what does that really mean in this day and age? They add features which someone somewhere HAS requested and incorporate it into the bigger picture. That said, Adobe Acrobat is far easier to use and works better than most PDF solutions I have used to include BlueBeam.

Be advised, to take advantage of these, you need a .mil email address to verify eligibility. The army has the very same program available at https://ascp.monmouth.army.mil

Living Room / Re: Microsoft granted patents for PageUp and PageDn keystrokes!
« Last post by Josh on September 10, 2008, 02:26 PM »
Right, patenting a key would be ridiculous, but the way in which the keys operate I see as a legitimate patent, just like the rolly storage bins which were advertised on TV during the late 90's were patented as a "Method of storage". Again, the title of this article misleads and does not actually indicate that it is a matter of HOW the key is utilized and not the ACTUAL key itself.

But tell me, isn't this the purpose of patents? To patent a way of doing something?

I guess thats why people should read the article first, eh Gothi[c]? I really don't consider this all that outrageous given that people have placed copyrights on stupider things.

Mouser, you lie, you are not from zimbabwe! We all know you live online so you should be all over the map!

Yep, same here, I have had NO problems with OpenDNS and in fact change all of my friends/colleagues over to it as it resolves lot's of issues when the ISP DNS servers take a crap or just stop responding to name queries or reverse lookups.

Living Room / Re: 32-bit Windows and the dreaded (and misunderstood) 4GB RAM limit
« Last post by Josh on September 08, 2008, 04:42 PM »
Its not a matter of what OS, its the platform. 32 bit platforms, by nature, can only address up to 3.5 GB of ram. So yes, Vista can SEE it, but it can't map it.

Zaine, First, please don't attack me like you do on betanews for posting this opinion.

An end user doesn't care about whether a page is standards compliant, all they care about is that it works. They don't care if a developer is lazy, they just want the page to work. I know my 18 year old sister won't give two hoots as to the reason a page doesn't render properly, she will just not use the browser if it can't render the page properly. So, in summary, it's not a matter of whether the developer should be punished for lazy coding, it's whether or not the end user should be punished because of lazy coding. As a web browser developer, I would want to make sure all pages render, regardless of code style.

Thank you for the reply darwin. Did you have any other issues with VIPRE? I am going to give webroot a try and just disable VIPRE. I will let you know my results. Have you attempted another deep scan to see if its sped up?

General Software Discussion / Re: Outlook 2007 isn't so bad
« Last post by Josh on September 04, 2008, 10:49 AM »
I love outlook 2007, in fact, I would use it IF it supported IMAP in a way which didn't require me to expand my hundreds of folders everytime I start the damn program!!!!! That is the one annoyance for me. It saves folder layouts for POP3, Exchange, and other email connections, BUT NOT IMAP!
