Living Room / Re: It's about ... why is the left seat the command seat?
« Last post by KynloStephen66515 on December 07, 2012, 01:56 PM »
I just got an instructor rating (recreational aviation) so I had to learn to fly from the right.

Since the plane I did the instructor training in (jabiru 170) is totally different to mine (Morgan Aeroworks Cheetah) it was a bit of a total re-learning and now I feel better in the right of the jab, feel fine in the left of everything else.
I recently did a check flight in a Tecnam Sierra and felt fine in the right of that as well. Just kept landing to the side on the runway from lining it up assymetricly.

@Stephan66515, what do you fly?

Cessna 152/172 :)

With the helicopter thing it may be less ingrained since it takes off vertically. You don't have to drive it down a runway to get up speed.

Now that's a valid point .  One that I'd not have considered, otherwise.  Thanks .

I think its purely personal preference with Chopper Pilots - Although, when flying, I must say, it feels more "natural" to fly from the left seat...Don't know why, just doesn't feel right on the right (excuse me for the badly worded sentence).

Only true in 'Fixed Wing' Aircraft...Helicopter pilots (commanders?) Sit in the right seat.

There doesn't seem to be a definitive answer why this is, but I know Aircraft pilots sit on the left, as "Air-Highways" are laid out like they are in America (Where they drive on the wrong side of the road) - Thats the only logical explanation I have for it.

As for Helicopter pilots, its possibly because its easier to use the cyclic in your right hand, and control the radios, collectives, nav, etc, with the left.

Anybody who bought the pack already, should have the keys in their HumbleBundle account :)

I just checked mine, and it turned out I had like 8 unused keys from other bundles I bought and they added stuff to, and one I bought, and evidently didnt bother to activate lol

BlackBerry phone bursts into flames, fire severely burns a British boy

blackberry-curve-9320.png

Sarah McCreath woke up to a mother’s worst nightmare.

In the middle of the night, she heard a loud “pop.” Her 11-year-old son, Kian McCreath, fled from his room, screaming, “My bed is on fire.” He was engulfed in flames, the Telegraph reports.

McCreath, who lives in Coventry, England, had left a new BlackBerry Curve 9320 near Kian’s bed. The family claims that the phone exploded and caused Kian’s mattress and duvet to catch fire. McCreath ran into her son’s room and beat the fire out with a quilt. But it was too late — the flames left her son with severe burns on his legs and feet, and melting plastic had stuck to his skin. He now has trouble sleeping and will probably carry these scars for the rest of his life.

“You wouldn’t think something so small could do so much damage,” McCreath told the Telegraph. “My son could quite easily have died.”

Living Room / Ten-Story Building In 48 Hours
« Last post by KynloStephen66515 on December 01, 2012, 05:46 PM »

A 10-story building in India made headlines this week after it was reported to have been successfully constructed in only two days.

According to NDTV, the construction of the building, located in an industrial area in the city of Mohali, began on Thursday afternoon at 4.30 p.m. local time. It was reportedly completed on Saturday, also at 4.30 p.m.

Three cranes and over 200 workers, including technicians, worked "[a]round the clock" to complete the building, the Hindustan Times reports.

The building is said to have been constructed with pre-fabricated materials, including 200 tons of steel.

Entrepreneur Harpal Singh, the head of the infrastructure company Synergy Thrislington who conceived of the project, had previously promised that the building -- aptly dubbed "Instacon" -- would be finished in 48 hours. He had also said in an earlier interview that the structure would be the "first building of its kind in the country."

Living Room / Microsoft Trolls The Trolls In Latest IE10 Ad
« Last post by KynloStephen66515 on November 30, 2012, 07:31 PM »
The folks at Microsoft have just released a clever commercial for Internet Explorer 10, the latest version of the company’s once dominant web browser which has seen great competition from Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox over the past few years. The ad puts you in the perspective of a true troll — dual-screens, a windowless room, old take-out boxes, and a penchant for spewing hate anonymously — and this troll hates IE10 (and Internet Explorer on the whole) with vehemence.

Throughout the ad, you see this dude follow the news on IE10, like any good troll would. Each time Microsoft posts something good (“IE10 is now on Xbox 360″ or “Gizmodo hearts IE10″) our protagonist stands firm in his belief system, that IE10 has lost relevance.

His hatred is an overstatement. If you don’t like IE, you simply don’t use it. But that doesn’t mean it’s dead in the water. NetMarketshare reports that IE8 and IE9 alone account for around 25 percent of the market as of October, a nearly 10 percent lead over Google Chrome 22, which holds 15 percent of the market. This makes sense considering that Chrome automatically updates, whereas users have to opt-in to update Microsoft’s browser.

Living Room / Hacking My Vagina
« Last post by KynloStephen66515 on November 30, 2012, 05:18 PM »
Making a Vibrator That Listens to Your Body

This project has been an astonishing little journey. Many of my previous projects were characterized by an amazing outpouring of effort to build something highly intricate and ultimately invisible.

This is the opposite kind of project. A little bit of work and a little custom design to create something new and exciting that I can immediately use in my everyday life. It also happens to be a sex toy.

In other words, I wanted to hack something I actually use: my vagina.
The Inspiration

I love feedback loops. Servo motors, thermostats, op-amps, DC-DC converters, social networks, flocking behavior. Our bodies. Massages, cuddling, sex– these are all ways of bringing a partner into your body’s most fun closed-loop systems.

To me, a good sex toy helps form feedback loops. It doesn’t get in the way. A good toy gives you simple ways of exchanging signals with a partner or with your own body. It acts as a conduit. A good sex toy is analog.

I was in the market for a remote-controlled vibrator recently, and I ended up with LELO’s Lyla vibe:

No, that was not a typo...

Very quickly and simply...I wanna know if any of you has designed any NANY 2013 related images....something that could be used as promo material...

If so...Post them!

I would be more than happy to vector and adjust the original pencil drawing, in order to have it high-res (All participants will receive a digital copy of the original anyway) - Unless someone with more knowledge and skill, could create a super duper high-res version of the drawing for us? xD

Vector drawing will be very different in style & feel. But may be more suitable for a web-version. (I can help that way too -I mean producing vector- if you want.)

Sounds good! - Nice to have some cool web versions xD

Actually.. perhaps we could commission a NANY drawing..
A drawing of of all NANY participants (using their avatars for inspiration), arranged as if they were all in a group photo :)
+100 for this idea!

Suggestion: A high-res digital version for all participants (use: Desktop background, etc.), and mouser draws the magic lotterynumber for the receiver of the original hand-drawn picture
