Living Room / Re: Auto close tags
« Last post by rgdot on November 17, 2009, 04:36 PM »
Currently I am doing something somewhat crude, sending keys using powerpro, it's like pre-saving some common closing tags and pasting them with a click when one is needed. Regarding HTML-Kit, I tried this but it didn't work on my machine, not really sure why.

Living Room / Auto close tags

Continuing my ongoing pointless questions

Does anybody know of a freeware html or text editor that has support for automatically inserting closing tags?
I type the h1 tag for example, add the text and then the closing tag is added automatically. Vim I believe does that using Ctrl+X+O, are there any free software that do the same or similar?

I believe that mac one blanks the screen, but I wonder if there is a way not to do that or not to lock/get the login screen

I was browsing and came across Keyboard Cleaner, a mac app that "comes in handy when you want to clean your keyboard, but you are afraid you might trigger a command or change or delete some of your current work beyond repair and undo...It shields your desktop and intercepts every keystroke you might accidentally make — except for Command-Q"

I don't think I have seen a Windows equivalent. If there is no such tool (perhaps using AHK?) for windows it could be very useful.

It might be worth mentioning that netbooks might be nice for some basic needs but lacking built-in CD/DVD drives limits them in terms of remote support for the reasons Innuendo mentions (ie OS restore and similar issues)

What is so cool about Wave anyway? i hear it's like a cross between a chat and wiki, i just don't see the appeal.

General Software Discussion / Re: How to add URLs in RUNit?

When adding new ones try entering something like this in 'Path'

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe*www.donationcoder.com

* between path and URL

Ineffective ad in my opinion, but for a corporate buyer perhaps not.
MS has started to make products that are relatively speaking well received and has responded to user needs even. Server 2008, Windows 7 and down to OneNote. Times have changed.

Not sure if this will be a big issues but:

"Reported by fmccabe, Yesterday (28 hours ago)

I have been working on a programming language, also called Go, for the last 10 years. There have been papers published on this and I have a book.
I would appreciate it if google changed the name of this language; as I do not want to have to
change my language!"

Finished reading Smart Networking by Liz Lynch
To me books that attempt to teach relationship or networking skills always lack something and it is not a fault of the author. For someone to be able to do all they teach one must already be able to jump the greatest barrier, ie the first and initial step to get into the door.

Bitnami basically allows you to install and run Redmine (and many other web-based tools) automatically and easily on your local machine, without worrying about getting all the necessary supporting apps - Apache, Ruby on Rails, etc. Then you just access it locally on your machine through a web browser, easy as pie.

Wish XAMPP had Ruby 'support'. Torn between downloading Ruby binaries or going the Bitnami route. Redmine looks very nice.

Important science, with many practical applications, developed with public funds and used world wide. Many R&D and Science spending in general are the best success stories ever, many have  generated massive profits for the private sector after the public funding phases have moved on to other projects.

General Software Discussion / Re: Windows vs. Mac: I'm starting to change.

Excellent post grapeshot.

If your OS version is a couple of years old, you begin to find that new software won't work with it, forcing you to upgrade.  In the Windows world, you can reasonably expect your OS to last you for the better part of a decade.

I hear that from Mac users once in a while and to me it's almost incomprehensible, I don't mean solely from a technical stand point but from a practical one.
