I think it's worth saying that I think it was useful for Innuendo to post here with his negative view of the linked series, just because it puts them into perspective when you go read them -- to know that maybe this isn't the best intro to linux.

Screenshot Captor / Re: How do I capture the Add or Remove Programs list?
« Last post by mouser on August 05, 2009, 05:44 AM »
I stand corrected -- i was not trying the add/remove dialog but the task manager dialog -- i misread the post.
I haven't tried the add/remove dialog, but if it is as CheckUserFirst says, then that would be a problem.  I'm curious to know how HyperSnap does it (though I must say the HyperSnap author is a very clever guy so i'm not surprised if he found a clever solution).

DC member Veign has been posting on his blog recently about the e-commerce system "Magento":

He usually has a very good sense for these things.

I'd still love to know whether Screenshot Captor can also accomplish this.

Screenshot Captor should have no problem capturing the contents of the Add/Remove window using a scrolling capture -- it works for me fine.  I'll have to explore why some people seem to be having trouble getting this to work.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Links to Review and Comments - Add yours!

Johnny Karp over at the great FreewareMission (we've posted about that site before here), has put up a nice review of FARR:

"Find And Run Robot is one of the best freeware programs I’ve tested lately, it’s portable, fast, powerful, lightweight and highly customizable. In order to use the program you have to get a free license key, you can download one once you create an account on the DonationCoder forum. I also encourage you to donate a few bucks to support this great community and the awesome freeware programs that they are making."

I did a scrolling window capture (ctrl+shift+prtscr) of the Add/Remove dialog without any problem.

Hi Tks,

The record functionality has not been implemented yet; it's actually something I'd like to spend a week doing, but I really need to find a way to get some fincancial funding for it before I can spend the time working on it.

Until then, there are those tools above.

call out boxes -- you hit the nail on the head -- this is really needed badly.  it's high on my todo list.

drawing off canvas.. what i do in this case is File -> Resize, and add a big extra region to the image, and then crop it later.
i could add a quick button or menu item for this -- like "Expand image to view" which would add transparent additional border around image so that the space visible could be drawn on.

LaunchBar Commander / Re: LBC Locked Computer Up Tight
« Last post by mouser on August 04, 2009, 02:35 AM »
i'm sorry.

there are 2 tricks you can use when you get into this evil situation where a window message is hiding behind another window and you can't click it:

  • One is to hit escape or enter to try to acknowledge and close the error message.
  • The other is to hit alt+tab to cycle back to the application with the error message -- this often brings the error message to the front.

Regarding you hitting save button and it not saving the file -- it should have saved it -- make sure you actually have the launchbar file open that you last worked on.  Sometimes what happens is that when a crash occurs, LBC will have saved the latest file, but not remembered that you were working on that file, and load the last one you were working on before that.

ProcessTamer / Re: Start with Windows for all users?
« Last post by mouser on August 03, 2009, 01:41 PM »
That's a very good question..
You can't do it from within the program itself (except to run the program as each user and choose start with windows for each one).
But you can do it manually by disabling the "start with windows" option from the program itself, and then going and adding a shortcut to Process Tamer to the ALL User\Start Menu\Startup folder, which is located somewhere in the C:\Documents and Settings directory.

thanks for the post empyrean.
you've clearly found a bug -- and i think someone else posted something similar a while back.

what's confusing for me is that FARR should automatically be creating the alias directory for you when using Vista or Win7, in your docs+settings\username\My Documents\Donationcoder\ subdirectory.. and it should know to look there..

i'll have to try again in my Vista virtual machine.. i wonder if this is only plagueing some people and not others, or does everyone on vista have this problem?
