PageFour treeview can be dragged and dropped, but the hierarchy seems only to have 2 levels and I could not see an option to see the whole of the text in the notebook.

I have Liquid Story Blender, but there is no drag and drop in the treeview and I'd really like to have something simpler just to write and organise with for a lot of stuff.

StorYBook seems to be just what it says. A database for characters, locations and chapter summaries for fiction/biography writers. No real text editing capacity.

I could not find a way to move around the text in Wikipad by moving the treeview. Keynote can do this.

What I really want, though, is the ability to move things around by using the treeview and options to look at text just in a single node, a set of nodes or the whole document. And neither Wikipad nor Keynote do this.

As someone who currently mostly uses Windows, but also has Linux, and expects to move mostly to Linux post WindowsXP, I've become aware that software that runs on both Windows and Linux will help with that transition.

So, very good to see that StorYBook and Wikipad do both. This does seem to be a fast increasing trend. :)

I would be annoyed yes, but posting to a forum which has nothing to do with zaine's comments it inappropriate. Surely you would be annoyed if you saw someone post a personal grievance against another user in a way that is unnecessary and draws unneeded attention to something that can be handled privately?

I think the point is that it is in public and not private. The issues about Zaine's comments on Dopus and XYplorer and the loss of comments made to his blog have been raised previously in this topic.

tbh, I'm not sure that Zaine is doing much for XYplorer by carping on about his views on Dopus.

So $9.95+$19.95 is more than $25.97. But if the upgrade is not worth it, $9.95 on its own is less. Who can know if it is worth it if there is no trial available?
Well - as stated HERE the price of v6 can now be $0.0. Probably the best starting point for anyone who does not have it and actually wants it. One thing I would say for Avanquest is the the prices for $ are effectively the same as the prices in £.

Found Deals and Discounts / Re: PowerDesk Pro v6 very very cheap.

I can confirm that this works. v6.0.4.2 - 33.78MB download for $0.0

Have to refuse their blandishments to upgrade the purchase cheaply to v7 though.

PS - I don't think there is any question that Directory Opus is better and worth the money (even if v7 of Powerdesk were better).

the upgrade price of $19.95 is replaced by a new price of $25.97.

So $9.95+$19.95 is more than $25.97. But if the upgrade is not worth it, $9.95 on its own is less. Who can know if it is worth it if there is no trial available?

And do you really want to buy from a company that seems not to be advertising the availability of v7 at the same time as it is actively selling (special offer, Bitsdujour etc) v6 at a discount price?

I don't see this as a major problem. I know about my recent emails and adding everything to mailstore once a week is not much of an imposition.

Living Room / Re: RAM PROBLEM?
« Last post by Dormouse on March 31, 2008, 08:19 AM »
Is it possible that something else has happened to cause the shutdowns and not the RAM?

Of course it is possible. It is also possible that the 512mb RAM was not the cause of the original slowness. If it were the new stick or a mismatch, I'd certainly expect that restoring the hardware to its previous state would stop the shutdowns. Have you tried a restore from before the time the shutdowns started? The PSU is another potential cause of the problems. Maybe someone more expert will be along soon to give more precise advice.

Why not just use a duplicate checker/remover?

Double Killer Pro seems to be well recommended here - https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=1693.0

If it is not obvious what is wrong, my experience suggests that the first thing to swap out is the PSU. They often give rise to intermittent faults and, by and large, you get what you pay for with them and cheap ones are generally to be avoided.

It sounds as if you are looking for a Task Manager, but the Google Calendar reference confuses me a bit because that's not so hot at task management.

I'd suggest ToDoList2. Can be used very simply, but has awesome power available. Free. Very active development (and has been for some years). Very responsive developer. But not at all like Google Calendar.

It all depends on the features you need as well as the type of interface you prefer.

Sunbird is another Calendar app rather than a task manager. Is it really a calendar that you need? Spicebird adds email (thunderbird engine) to sunbird derived calendar. Alternative calendar apps would include Essential PIM and Calimanjaro.

My version of PowerDesk Pro is 6.0.4.2 © 1998-2005 - Any newer ones?

Edit:
Maybe 'someone' will download the supposedly new trial and tell what version's number it is?  :tellme:

6.0.1.3   1998-2005

Also checked with Powerdesk. Powerdesk much slower than SearchGT, on a par with Dopus & XYplorer.

Yes, I suppose that with a master password the browsers are probably secure enough. And convenient so long as you only use that browser (much less convenient otherwise).
1873
Yes, I agree it works fine if you use LockNote etc - as you say that would make it another way of achieving a Password Manager system. Longer winded though, unless you are already using Locknote etc.

Don't know about the 'remember password option' in browsers. Certainly convenient, but not sure it is that secure.
1874
I'm not sure I really understand the point of standalone password generators. The password can be relatively hard to guess or crack and can be used - but how is it to be remembered? It will be too random/long for most humans memory to be reliable. And, if it is recorded somewhere, couldn't it be found by someone else?

I understand the point inside a password manager which will only need one master password. I understand the value of the two input system (master password and account name) that effectively only needs one master password and use this myself on minor accounts where security does not really matter (though I still record them in Keepass). But I don't really understand the point of just generating uncrackable impossible to remember passwords without a method of recording them that is itself secure.

At some point I tried "scanning" parts of very wide books like that (they wouldn't fit in my scanner). Quite a hard endeavor... I guess I just didn't have the right equipment -- if I had, it would've been damn quick!

I find that with a decent camera there's no book that is too big or wide. By far the fastest way of digitising that sort of item. Also good for stuff that other people have and don't want you to borrow to take a copy.

For most letters etc, I just rely on my document scanner which is very fast and automatic.
