« Last post by Josh on October 10, 2008, 01:03 AM »
To all,

It appears that norton has done it this time. This tool is insanely useful. This tool is not to be confused for Tweak-UAC which lets you disable UAC, but instead this offers you the ability to whitelist (and submit results to norton for inclusion in the whitelist) programs so you do not receive UAC prompts. It replaces the UAC prompt with it's own, see below, and allows you to choose "Don't ask me again" which supresses all prompts in the future for said program.

Very useful and freeware! Good job symantec

Living Room / Media Extenders (SageTV)
« Last post by Josh on October 09, 2008, 11:26 AM »
To all,

I recently read an article on SageTV which appears to be a promising product for sharing media across a home network and even the internet (with their addon). Has anyone had experience with this device or something similar and can anyone tell me more about it from first hand experience?

Thanks!

Josh

Does it only play wav? I really dont want to put a nice long 5 minute 80MB wav file inside my portable folder :-/

But yes, if you could add the dclock style window with just a counter and a status bar, that would be great. If you saw how I am working over here, you would understand :)

App, I would like to inquire something to you. Would you be willing to add a few things to this for me? As you know, I am deployed with the US Army and my current job has me working on projects which make me forget about time altogether. I often skip meals, forget to take breaks to go exercise for a minute or two to get the blood flowing, and just remain focused to an insane degree.

There are two things, right now, which I can think of for this application which would make it the PENTULTIMATE solution for me, even better than having a pan-galactic gargle blaster three times a day.

A. I would like to see some sort of option to playback a sound file (mp3, wave, ogg, etc) when its time to break or when the break is over. This would help me keep alerted more so with the program.

B. I would like to see an option to have a floating countdown window (Which removes all unneeded window real estate) with just the timer and the status bar containing its usual info. This, combined with an "Always on top" feature would allow me to stick this in the upper right corner of my window and leave it there so I can track my progress.

What do you think? Would this be possible? This is like the perfect application for my needs and those options would be something I would sit through volgon poetry for!

Thoughts? Also, thanks for this great application!

« Last post by Josh on September 20, 2008, 08:27 PM »
To all,

I need a mail notification program which I can setup for my wife to alert her when I (or others) have emailed her. Ideally, it would have ways of notifying via tray popup, tooltips, or any other combination of methods. What do you know of and recommend? The sooner the response on this, the better. This will help me on an upcoming military deployment.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I hope people realize that the apps INSIDE OF windows are a separate set of coders when compared to the kernel coders.

Living Room / Re: Blog Post: GPS Spoofing
« Last post by Josh on September 19, 2008, 04:31 PM »
This is where encryption comes into play, and verification of signals. If the GPS maker has any sense about them, they have a control mechanism in place to verify what signals they are receiving. One thing is to measure power levels. If you are receiving a signal that is as strong as if it were right next to you, something is fishy there. Perhaps the GPS satellites need to be updated with a CRC or MD5 hash of sorts verifying the satellite they are coming from so they cannot be spoofed. Just a thought.

How about LOLMouser.donationcoder.com

Huh, what? who? where?

Dunno if that is x64 capable, but give it a shot. Email the devs, that is what I did and got them to push out a vista version :) Couldn't live without this app. It saves me so much tray space!

Congratulations anderson, you have reached the level of mouser (I.E., his naming application with a + sign in it, or the word ROBOT in it). Now that is something to congratulate someone about. You have accomplished something great now :)

He might be an admin, but he fits several other categories. Perhaps we should have categories under our title "Participant, Charter Member, Donating Member" etc which we can associate with our own flame warrior style :)

Has that happened since? And all that did was delay it a day. Activation allows you 30 days last I checked and that can be extended up to 120 days. Every system has bugs and microsoft has since ironed those out.

I fail to see it as a real issue. Many companies use this method of software protection and it hasn't proven to me, at least, to be problematic. If it did, I would raise a big fuss about it. However, I find most of the activation problems that most users fear are just brought upon by uneducated news media spreading information that doesn't represent a large majority of a given sample populous.
