I feel strongly enough about it as well that I feel compelled to +1 mouser's remarks. Additionally, as we have discussed in other threads on this forum, one score/review does not fit all. You need to take into consideration things like your skillset (do you understand TCP vs UDP? Do you know what a stateful packet inspection is? Do you prefer a default accept policy or a default deny policy? etc.) Will you be using this on a laptop as the primary means of defense of on a desktop already behind a firewall/router? etc. Another extremely important thing to consider with security software is how well is it maintained. For example, the last release of Jetico was back in Feb 2004 (IIANM). Are you protecting a file server? A web server? A gaming rig? All these things will effect what choice you should make.

If it going to be WYSIWYG, they it need not be BBC underneath. It only need be something that the forum accepts. That might be HTML.

I pretty much only use CHS for the quickpaste feature, I don't use clipboard managers for anything else, really.

Great comments. In a related manner, I used to do reviews for The Wargamer. Their policy is to not use any kind of rating system so the reader can decide for themselves if it is a game they are interested in. For many of the same reasons mentioned here. They also have yearly reader choice awards - which I think are good to have also.

I disagree. Between space provided by one's ISP to tons of free website hosting, just about anyone can get free web space. Top that off with most OS's having the ability to map a drive/directory/folder to provide for drag & drop and it is easy for anybody.

For example, my ISP is Road Runner cable. I can run any of a dozen free & easy to use FTP programs to put up my file. Then I email the link. done.

I see a lot of request for command line tools and for free software. Just a quick reminder not to forget about Cygwin.  With Cygwin loaded you get access to many of the tools available to *NIX users that do many of the things you are looking for. Many small utils piped together can be very powerful.

I use mIRC for IRC and Gaim for IM. How does Miranda compare to Gaim?

For those of you who aren't allowed to use IM clients at work because of firewall or install restrictions, give meebo a try. You can even use your home computer as a proxy with their custom proxy server, meebo repeater.

I had forgotten about Andromada. Was it alway pay to play? I thought I remember it being freeware? However, based on a quick gander to the Jinzora website, it looks like it is the winner without the need for a review. I'm looking forward to them. But did you know that they have offered free tools for quite some time? They have the personal editions of some of their tools that are free for non-commercial use. However, I am sure that going forward the tools will be free for even commercial use. Eclipse has seen to that. Borland and the other tool makers will still be able to compete in the larger enterprise market where the cost of the initial purchase is only a very small factor when deciding which tools to use.

Howdy. I can't keep track of all the browsers on use on all the computers I use any more. I have been using an online bookmark service for almost two years now that I can't say enough good things about.

I have a paid subscription that includes use of https and a weekly email to me with all of my bookmarks attached. One of these days I need to get around to doing a (rave) review for them and putting it up on my site.

Skrommel's Software / ZoneSize and Two Monitors

Skrommel,

First of all, thank you for ZoneSize.

I am running it on a computer with two monitors. I am running it as a dual display and I am not stretching my desktop to fit both monitors. (IOW my  taskbar only shows on my primary monitor, windows maximize to only on monitor, etc.) ZoneSize only seems able to set zones on my primary monitor. Does that sound right? Is there a work around? How much would it cost to bribe you to add dual monitor support?
