Hi Miles! another cool little utility.
I prefer having the top post updated with version info when there is a new release.
The top post should also have an image (as your does) for easier adding to the coding snacks page.
And the link to the download should go to your web site (either a page or direct download) and not to an attachment, and should not change over time (i.e. dont make it link directly to myapp_v1.0.1.zip).  Those guidelines are all so that the place to get the file will be the same over time.

These gatherings aren't once a year -- they are whenever a dc person is nearby and wants to come over.
Actually we've been thinking that we might have game night every week or every other week, so anytime a dc person is in the area will work out fine.

Well we had another poorly attended (game night) DC gathering at my house, and ended up playing a new (to us) board game called Tales of the Arabian Nights, which i bought after reading this and this review.

The game lasted over 5 hours (!) and was very fun.

We all enjoyed it, and agreed that it was mostly random, but very fun to participate in the funny and nail-biting storytelling elements of the game. As the reviews make clear -- basically this is a board game where on each turn you encounter some creature or impediment, choose an action, and then look up in a massive book what happens to you -- told in a very enjoyable way. Kind of like those "choose your own adventure" books for kids, made into game form. It was a little bit long for me, but even though gothic ended the game as an impoverished, imprisoned, crippled, donkey, he still seemed to want it to go on longer.

We also made hummus from scratch (including grinding cumin with a mortar and pestle so +1 point for me), and gothic got to put in some of his infinite-scoville hot sauce in his bowl (he had fed ex deliver it to my house -- shows you how desperate he was for it -- it was packed heavily enough to protect nuclear waste).  to taste it i put a drop of it on a toothpic, then washed off the toothpic, then dragged the toothpic lightly across a wet piece of lettuce, then folded the lettuce up and chewed it, and it still burned my mouth.

i can add a command to get arguments, that's not a problem.  i'll do that today.  i'll actually add 2 functions, one to resolve the link with arguments, and one to get arguments separately.

as for launching the windows office application link.. that may be harder, let me see what i can figure out.
(ps. this is what drives me crazy about microsoft -- why do they insist on constantly pulling these bullshit gimicks that make things more difficult).

yeah it doesn't work in grab selected region mode -- just grab screen and then crop afterwards.
i'll try to fix it later so there is a delay and so you cant move cursor in.

so it CAN be something you've worked on for a long time up until then, as long as it hasn't been available to the public previously.

in the spirit of NANY, it should be something youve worked on at least a little bit recently.. so just grabbing something you wrote 10 years ago and not even updating it a little for NANY would be pushing the terms of the celebration.

do you really need to worry about captions? i think simply comparing full lowercased path names would be sufficient.

if you want to give users the MOST flexibility i think the options would look something like this:

By default: Launch multiple instances | Switch to running application if found

List of programs to always allow multiple instances:
[SIMPLE TEXT BOX, EACH PATH ON ITS OWN LINE]

List of progams to always switch to if found running:
[SIMPLE TEXT BOX, EACH PATH ON ITS OWN LINE]

even this might be overkill, and one could assume that people who install this will almost always want to switch to running process, so just do that by default and have a list of paths of programs to allow multiple instances.

you might also allow substring matching against paths, so i could specify
firefox.exe
in my list of programs to install multiple copies.

to make life even easier for me let me request submissions for new badges to be done as follows:

name of new badge (one short word)
two files, one called BADGENAME_16.gif (or png) which should be no larger than 16x16; one called BADGENAME_64.gif (or png) which should be no larger than 64x64
a short tile line with a url link, like:
[Select]
Inhabitant of [url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portugal]Portugal[/url]
a longer description text, which can be one to five lines long.

fret not.
this is really going to be something that a plugin writer will be able to do for FARR, and enjoy coding.  it will be fun to make the first plugin that intercepts launch commands and takes them over, and it will be easy to make it so users can specify programs that should or should not be allowed to run multiple copies.

there is no one best way -- there are lots of different styles, some with names.

i'm a fan of Whitesmiths style, which basically is closest to your last one.  But thats not nearly so common nowadays..

i guess my advice is: always prefer clarity over all else -- id rather have 10 lines than 5 if the the 10 lines make clearer what's going on.
putting brackets on the same line as the if else stuff makes it harder to line up with its partner, which is why i dislike it.
