Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA: SuperDuperRoboPrinter
« Last post by mouser on September 24, 2009, 03:59 AM »
did we set up dc member space for you yet, awop?
i ask because having different versioned attachments in a thread, rather than a link to a download page or file, sometimes leads to some confusion when people download older versions.  just a suggestion.

if you are in the mood for it you might also create a tool pack for this:

are you asking how to have make an input field in html which masks what you type with *** characters, or are you asking something else?

Living Room / Re: The Pricelessware Scam (Alt.Comp.Freeware)
« Last post by mouser on September 23, 2009, 05:56 PM »
alt.comp.freeware confuses me for all sorts of reasons.  i don't really understand the details of some of these controversies.. i wish one of the reputable online tech magazines like Wired would do a real investigatory story on ACF and explain some of this stuff to the rest of us.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Return Focus to last program after FARR search
« Last post by mouser on September 23, 2009, 04:08 PM »
that happens for me automatically.. let me ask:
when you launch the search from farr.. the farr window dissapears right? what window if any then gains focus if it's not firefox?

Thanks for the link SKA, i have used treepad in the past (though not for website generation), and it's an impression program.  It's doing a similar thing to what I want, but I'd be interested in something a little more scriptable and that working by analyzing different files in a directory tree that might have all kind of extra information to guide how the site is constructed and what menus are shown.

Our heart goes out to you -- just remember that he lived a very happy life with you as his best friend -- not much more one can ask for in this life.

Tranglos your system reminds me of what i've always wanted for DC:
https://www.donation...dex.php?topic=3689.0

My interest has always been on a tool that would take a directory tree of flat files and make a website out of them.

BrowserTraySwitch / Re: Need help switching browsers using FARR
« Last post by mouser on September 22, 2009, 11:29 PM »
ok i'll look into it -- it should work.
you might try running those commands from the commandline to determine if the fault is with FARR or with browsertrayswitch.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Bug: Notification of saved license key cannot be closed
« Last post by mouser on September 22, 2009, 04:23 PM »
thanks for the report i'll see if i can reproduce.

the library used in SC can save to postscript -- i think those files would probably load into latex.  let me add the support for it in the saveas box.

General Software Discussion / Re: 30 More Days of DonationCoder Screencasts
« Last post by mouser on September 22, 2009, 03:23 PM »
it's mainly focused on webcam recording, and is a bit similar to screenshot captor -- that's why i've said recently that screenshot captor is finally going to get an improved thumbnail panel, based on this code.  but i'm going to work on it for a few more weeks and figure out a few more details and best direction for it.

Screenshot Captor / Re: autoprint + automatic mail message
« Last post by mouser on September 22, 2009, 02:07 PM »
you probably already know that screenshot captor has a mail function which will send an email from screenshot captor on command, from the SendTo menu.
so you want to have it send the email automatically after a capture?
i could probably add that pretty easily. i actually thought about adding it earlier but then it seemed to me that it was a risky thing to do and users would be better of invoking it manually.

Living Room / Re: Help with Toshiba Portege M200 Tablet PC
« Last post by mouser on September 22, 2009, 01:24 PM »
i have an old hand me down portege (older model than yours) and it's a nice machine.
it also does uses an external optical cd rom.

my memory is that you can't just boot with any external cd rom -- to boot from cd you need their proprietary cdrom drive (or one made specifically to be compatible); that's my memory.

the boot from lan option sounds like something you should investigate -- i've never used it but it seems like it could be the way to go.

i encourage all regular dc members to tell us about the stuff they create on other sites -- that's not spamming.

it seems to me in the course of the post you are asking some very different things and it's hard to know which to answer.

  • is the question: now that we have an active community, how do we organize it to focus on important things and avoid getting distracted by unrelated stuff?
  • or is the question: we have an active community, how do we get a more creative discussion instead of focusing on mundane stuff?
  • or is the question: how do we build from scratch an active community?

the first two things are almost directly in conflict with each other -- which i think is important to realize.

do you have a custom browser configured in your farr options maybe?

i can add the grayscale option.
for border -- do you want it to add border around the outside of the image?

i didn't think anyone was paying attention, let alone watching.

i actually did make 5 screencasts in the last week, but they were for a new program i've been working on and not yet released :)

try like this:
Browser Tray Switch - Firefox | C:\Program Files\BrowserTraySwitch\BrowserTraySwitch.exe -switch "C:\Program Files\BrowserTraySwitch\BrowserFiles\Firefox.btsregfile"
Browser Tray Switch - Maxthon | C:\Program Files\BrowserTraySwitch\BrowserTraySwitch.exe -switch "C:\Program Files\BrowserTraySwitch\BrowserFiles\Maxthon.btsregfile"

absolutely no reason one person could not have won netflix (or win the new one), using nothing more than a normal desktop computer.

dcupdate is of course the thing to use once you have a plugin installed.. but until we have an easier way to install new plugins, this is a great resource.
it's also useful in helping us test stuff.

Thanks for taking the time to post Waffles -- that's definitely a strange behavior.. I wonder why the other adapter was messing with URL Snooper..
