I remember from LOLmouser's thread that : "All your case belong to us" comments..  ;)

In this case, let's say "All your Souls are belong to us".. :D

Sad, but true, gpetrant. You family members' souls are collateral damage...

Oh, I see. So I'm really stupid, I overlooked the date.  :-[

No you're not! If you are, then so am I... It took me a long time to find or notice those links myself. Just helping someone who was where I have been  :-[

I don't know if I'm reading it as it should be read, but the Korean in the corner says "loonie"  ;D

I'm very impressed with Everything as well  My search engine "collection" is getting to be as extensive as my file management collection  :o

;D Sorry Jim! Wasn't trying to put words in your, er, fingertips, though I *thought* that that was more or less what I said:

Jim was actually referring to Chameleon Startup Manager
1834
OK, I'm out of my depth. I went through each of the file managers mentioned above and couldn't find much of anything out. Only clear possibility seems to be Altap Salamander, but I suspect that I am simply not looking at the right options/searching for the right help topics. So... you'll probably need to check these out yourself to be sure  :o

Wow.  Fast is an understatement.  This is unbelievable.  My expectations for speed of all software has just went through the roof.

Great. Now I'm going to HAVE to try this  >:( ;D

I checked the users resource centre and there are thousands of hits on various combinations and iterations of network, directory, and cache/caching. Nothing jumped out at me. Sadly, I have no way of testing this for you as I don't have access to any network other than the one I run at home.

The concept is reasonable and you're right, it should be possible! But has it been "realised"? I have MANY file managers installed on my other system. Sometime this evening or tomorrow I'll try to read through the documentation for them and see if I strike gold. In the meantime, you could look at Altap Salamander (can use TC's plugi-ns), Total Commander (the plug-in system may yield something), Frigate 3 (has a fully featured web browser built-in), V the File Viewer, FileBoss (might be a strong candidate), FileQuest (though development has been stagnant for over a year), and DiskJockey File Viewer (also with built-in web browsing but also stalled development-wise for over a year). You could also check out AccelMan, which is now freeware. It, too, features web browsing (I think) and has a bunch of interesting features, if it is a bit quirky and in need of updating.

Sorry for the stream of consciousness response - good luck!

UPDATE: just checked and Altap Salamander has an option (enabled by default) Cache visited remote directories
1838
Does it have network caching?

Home network is probably fast, but I am espeically interested in vpn and over the internet browsing.

I supports FTP Directory Caching... but I doubt that is the same thing. I've used it to connect to webdav folders on other servers and it was reasonably quick (though not blazing fast). I couldn't a concrete answer in the help file (Caveat: most likely because I'm unfamilar with the concept). I'll check the users forum and resource centre as well - the answer is either there awaiting discovery or to be answered!

Nope - you're not alone yksyks... I tried all of the links and both View Supporters Yearbook and Show Latest Topics take me right back to the main forum page (or refresh it if I am starting from there). Unread Posts and Unread Replies work fine though... FWIW, another thread was started about this issue by nogojoe: DonationCoder.com Forum - Info Center

I've posted there with the same info.

SQLNotes can import EverNote v2 export files. It also imports categories as fields. I wonder if it works with version 3. (From SQLNotes you can import/export your items to something else -- like access or Excel).

Ooh... that's nice to know. I've got a recent beta of SQLNotes installed on my other notebook but STILL haven't had time to play with it. Might give that a go, though... Thanks, Armando

General Software Discussion / Re: Turning Windows 2003 Server into a workstation?
« Last post by Darwin on November 10, 2008, 01:04 PM »
I like Windows Server 2008 64-bit. It's nice to see all 4 GB of RAM recognised and used. However, at the end of the day, I really don't see any significant performance boost from using it over Vista Home Premium 32-bit (Sp-1). I'm sure that "stressing" it might reveal some areas of superiority, but I can't be bothered, at the moment. I run Office 2007, which apparently doesn't play nicely with 64-bit Windows, and need to get back to work. Thus, the original 250GB HD with Vista, my applications, and e-mail already installed and set up is back in the notebook. The smaller drive with Server 2008 installed and activated is back in its external enclosure (useless there, BTW and OT, because getting a SATA drive to be recognised and mounted in Windows via USB 2 is more miss than hit).

When I have time in the future I'll play with it again. Just thought I'd update my previous posts in this thread.

Justice - any updates on your experience?

More bad news. I'm finding files with size zero. I wish I knew who did that. My guess is that SFFS server mode does all kind of bad things to files. At this point I'm really afraid of SFFS. It'll require detective work to figure out what is going on here, and I don't have the time.

You're scaring me...

My Dad's teacher (circa 1930's) wouldn't even allow counting using your fingers! I think mental arithmetic is a thing of the past...

My teachers in the 1970's and 1980's wouldn't allow this either... I wasn't allowed to have a calculator until high school.

TC by default has functions keys button bar visible at the bottom with "F8 Delete":

;D I just fired TC up and sure enough - you're right. I'd totally managed to forget about that :-[ Incidentally, Altap Salamander is the same... and SpeedCommander (if memory serves), now that I think about it...

Ever since True Image Home 11, Acronis has become pretty unreliable IMO.

Jim

That's why I use Echo Workstation version - haven't used a home version since 9 (which was fine in my usage).

What is totally beyond my grasp...why do I have to use F8 to delete something when there is a beautiful button called 'Delete' on a keyboard that is (more or less) in the same position already for more than 15 years?  :tellme:  UNIX roots? Come on, give me a break! In my opinion, anything that takes getting used to has a structural/basic design flaw.

 :tellme: :o

I'm a Total Commander user and I can confirm that selecting a file and then pressing the "Delete" key will in fact delete the file. Actually, that's the key I use, I don't think I ever used the F8 key to delete a file in TC

I was wondering about that comment, too, though I don't think Shades was referring to either Dopus or TC. Possibly DC under Amiga?

Does once having learned, but long since forgotten, how to extract square and cube roots without a calculator count? If so, I guess I'm old, too  :(
