Don't know if this is 64 compatible but this is what I use on xp pro 32.

http://wincalendartime.sourceforge.net/

It reads like the regular clock and can be formated.
Pops up a calendar-no alarms or extras.

General Software Discussion / Re: A Firefox Lover's Guide to Opera
« Last post by cmpm on December 30, 2007, 10:44 AM »
It took me a long time to switch to Firefox from ie.
The turning point was mostly when it switched to ie7,
which has hardly any customizable features,
unless you go with a ton of toolbars.

Firefox is very customizable imo.
You can pull icons off of the google toolbar
and put them where the menu items are, which is cool.
Then turn off the google toolbar.

Add ons No Squint, SpeedDial and Fastdial are great for me.
I don't know if Opera can do all that Firefox can.
But I haven't tried so I don't know.......

Uninstall Java from control panel-add/remove programs

Open this folder-

C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files

Delete all Java programs.
If there is any.

Download and run Ccleaner here-
Run the 'Cleaner' and 'Registry'-
Fix all in the Registry and save a backup.

http://filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/

Download Java here-

http://filehippo.com...wnload_java_runtime/

If that don't fix it then I don't have anything else for you, sorry.

Personally I use and like FreeCommander.

It can show whatever you want and has some cool options and default toolbar buttons. And being free is very cool.

http://www.freecommander.com/

I won't replace windows explorer though. I'll just leave it cuz I like it sometimes. I've added freecommander to RocketDock, so it's easy to access.

BitComet here, superfast.

http://www.bitcomet.com/

Has it's own browser if you want it to load also.
I usually don't need it cuz I don't download a lot of large files.
The small ones are already fast enough.

If you want to use it, start it with the icon.
If you don't want to use it close it.
Easy on the mind and eye also cuz of it's look is clean.

Lots of extras.

I've looked at quite a few extensions, addons, and programs to update all my bookmarks favicons and pages in one step.

The closest I've come is 'Favicon Picker 2', which allows adding your own icons to websites without one. Which is cool.

But here is what I'd like. I'd like to be able to automatically save the websites favicon to a favicon folder that won't get cleaned by cleaning the cache or other places that need cleaning at times.

I want to put a shortcut to a site on my desktop or anywhere with the correct icon and not the default firefox one.

Perhaps a 'rule' like in e-mail programs for certain files.

Although I have heard that some favicons are dangerous and blocked for good reasons. Don't know the reasons but I came across that bit of info somewhere.

Perhaps something like Neodownloader Lite which downloads all graphics from a site. But have it download all favicons from bookmarks and use a folder for choosing the right favicon.

Sheesh...I think I could have said all that with fewer words...lol...:)

Highlight any text in a web page and send it to google note book.
It saves the text and the website.
Or just save the website without text.
It's on google's servers so after a reformat just go to google, get the  notebook and login.
Everything is there.
And it's free.
That's one of my solutions anyway.

You don't have 'NVRotate'?
In properties?
I have a geforce mx 4000.

Check Nvidia's site for some forceware for your card.

That's a good idea nosh for personal data.
As well as scans, screenshots and downloads.
I put them all on drive d.

I also made a folder and called it program files.
So all my programs except what I already had on c drive now go to d drive.
So when the program goes to install I just change the c to a d,
and leave the rest the way it is, very easy.
No problems so far.

I made a folder on drive d and called it something different then 'my documents', then moved the 'my documents to that folder with the move folder command in properties. And no there is not a subfolder called my documents in it, but everything was there that was in my documents.

And since you brought it up I renamed the desktop icon from my documents to another name to see if I could, and it worked. Just right click and click Rename.

hmmm....I have firefox always running with minimize to tray add-on.
Surfing this morning, I was just looking, not clicking anything, and it just quit!
Firefox closed but everything else was running.

Here's what I did-
Reloaded Firefox without uninstalling it.

And much to my surprise Fasterfox add-on was on custom.
I would not put it on custom, I don't know enough.
Switched it to Turbo.

So far so good.

First sign of trouble ever, though it was getting slower.
It is faster now.

I wonder what happened to support for this plugin?
The links for support and homepage do not connect.

Still works it seems. (A screenshot capture just for the web.)

Anyone know? Just wondering...

Screenshot Capture by mouser and Snagit are plenty to work with.
Just was looking for a toolbar for Firefox to include Snagit, but couldn't find it.
But I came across this little dude.

(hate to post and run but I gotta go to work, will ttyl)

You may need some of these-

I had to get the decoder and the player to view the video documentation.

Workstation 5.5 decoder and the player is all I downloaded so far.

Java based.

I'm not a spreadsheet user, but I do use other parts of it.

Quite correct Carol Haynes, having the optimal hardware has always been an issue with any operating system. For it to perform to one's specific needs.

The only real advantage of Vista I could find documented was it's better use of memory. Which means it uses all the memory(supposedly) so as to take advantage of it, rather then having it set there doing nothing.

This could account for some slow booting up.

And it's suggested to have at least 2 gigs of mem if not 6 or 8.
So more money.
Personally I wouldn't try to upgrade what I have but just get a Vista system new. If I wanted it.
Much more money!..lol...

My xp takes a while to boot fully too, with all that I have starting with it.

Personally I can do with xp what I want to do computer wise.

Heck I don't use most of it's potential anyway.

As far as that article is concerned, yes xp sucked when it first came out until service pack 2. imho Though it was better then 98, but win2000 is still a good system.

I'm in no hurry to get the latest and greatest. I prefer the proven and reliable.

Thanks Ralf for the heads up on this.

I suspect it will be similar to docs and spreadsheets.
And accessed by others via e-mail invitation.
Otherwise you could build a website on it.

my mistake-you can share files via e-mail with xdrive
setting it up you have to email the ones you want to share with

which can be done with google docs and spreadsheets also

I wonder how many gigs will be free?

And if you can hyperlink to the things you put in there.

Xdrive has 5 gigs free, no hyperlinking.
Web interface works better then the xdrive icon deal.
Of course if you want to let someone in,
you gotta give 'em the password.
