Living Room / The End of the CrunchPad
« Last post by mouser on November 30, 2009, 11:40 AM »
A strange story broke today about anew touchscreen tablet computer that was due to be unveiled this month by the people behind the TechCrunch website..

It was so close I could taste it. Two weeks ago we were ready to publicly launch the CrunchPad...And then the entire project self destructed over nothing more than greed, jealousy and miscommunication.

ProcessTamer / Re: Can Dumpreg.exe and Dr. Watson be tamed ?
« Last post by mouser on November 30, 2009, 10:22 AM »
this does sound like a good candidate for process tamer.. you could even set a rule to always run dumpreg.exe at low priority (though process tamer should detect the case where it is using up all of your cpu automatically).

Something sounds really fishy about this story.. I find it hard the police would go to this kind of trouble to catch a 20 yr old who might be drinking underage.  Seems to me we must be missing part of the story, like maybe they were trying to pressure or catch him doing something else?

Or perhaps this was part of an effort to stop kids at the college from boasting about illegal drinking.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Auto scroll problem - open with screenshot captor
« Last post by mouser on November 29, 2009, 01:54 PM »
As of 2.77 you can now pass filenames on commandline so you can use SC as an "open with" program.
17760
Minor update:
v1.109.01 - November 29, 2009
  • [BugFix] Removed usless "Preferences" menu from preferences dialog.
  • [Feature] If you ctrl+click on tab page tool buttons they will cycle through child "tabs".
17761
Pretty minor update but some useful stuff:

v2.77.01 - Nov 29th, 2009
  • [MinorFeature] In addition to existing commandline options, you can now just pass filename or directory name on commandline to open that file or directory, which makes SC suitable for using as an "Open With" program (also unminimizes from tray when launched in this way, even if already running).
  • [MinorFeature] You can pass "-scan" commandline option to initiate a scan -- note that you can do this even if Screenshot Captor is already running -- it will trigger a scan in the existing running instance.
  • [Feature] When you rename a file using the "Name:" box, SC no longer forces a resave of the file, which could result in image degradation and an updated file date; it now does a pure file rename (object file as well) if nothing but filename has changed (and extension is unchanged of course).  If you change the file extension from the "Name:" box, a new file will be created.
  • [MinorFeature] Added bottom+right border effect
  • [Feature] You can now cancel an autoscroll capture by hitting the escape key.

General Software Discussion / Nice DonationCoder.com WriteUp on dotTech.org
« Last post by mouser on November 29, 2009, 12:07 PM »
It's a really nice feeling when the site gets written up somewhere, especially when it's by someone who has spent time at DC and gets the spirit of the site.

Ashraf at dotTech.org has just posted a very kind and sweet writeup and talked about some of the programs on DC that he likes best.

I am sure many dotTechies have heard of DonationCoder. For those that have not, let me give you a brief introduction. DonationCoder.com is a website where many programmers feature their freeware software. What makes DonationCoder different, verses other freeware providing websites, are three main aspects..

Developer's Corner / Freeware Mission Roundup: Free Applications for Webmasters
« Last post by mouser on November 28, 2009, 08:13 PM »
Blogger czar at the great site Freeware Mission has put up part 2 of his multi-part series on applications for webmasters and developer; many of these are web services not desktop applications.  Some definite good finds:

After a long research, I decided to make a list of most used free applications for web developers and designers. All of them are tested on Windows XP and Vista. I’ve also added editor’s rating (level 1 to 5.One is poor, five is excellent) and level of “easy of use” (level 1 to 5.One is easy, five is hard) I will continue researching and adding more free tools to the list.

General Software Discussion / Re: Needful of opinions on graphics cards/drivers ...
« Last post by mouser on November 28, 2009, 06:16 PM »
being correct does not put appropriate slots on my motherboard.. I'm budgeted for up to $1K
perhaps you should consider whether it might not be smarter to upgrade to a motherboard with dual pci-e graphics card slots?

i mean if you need more than 4 monitors, then yes it may make sense to get one of these new crazy graphics cards which can drive 8 monitors with one card.. but if 4 is good then i would change my motherboard and get one that supports 2 cards.

LaunchBar Commander / Re: Export LaunchBar_Cmmander mcf file to text or xml
« Last post by mouser on November 28, 2009, 05:00 PM »
agreed, i've put this on my todo list -- i'm trying to add support for xml export from all of my programs, and i agree this would make it easier to do these kinds of global replacements and fixups.

LaunchBar Commander / Re: Is there a way: Global edit of drive letters + more?
« Last post by mouser on November 28, 2009, 04:58 PM »
Sorry for the late reply.. I need to add this, and you're thinking matches mine -- the best solution might be export to xml and import from xml, and let users do these kinds of changes in a text editor.  This would have the added benefit of adding an export to xml option which i am trying to add to all of my apps.

LaunchBar Commander / Re: Never Show Tray Icon / run&close
« Last post by mouser on November 28, 2009, 04:57 PM »
Just an another button while in non-docked mode would be nice: the [X]-button could close LBC completely (my wish),
and an new to add [_] minimize-button could do what the [X]-button does right now: minimize to tray.

not bad idea at all, though we should note that both of these functions are available from right click.

do you mean a way to use LBC to search items on the lbc dock?
what i was thinking instead was to let FARR know about LBC items..

there is a brand new video card with 8 outputs, can't remember the name+make currently.
however, you should know that for up to 4 monitors, the most common solution is 2 video cards.
that's what i use and it works without a hitch.
