Developer's Corner / Re: AHK Capability
« Last post by Target on January 22, 2008, 07:13 PM »
Some background on what you're trying to do might be helpful here (not quite sure why you want to intercept a dialog box, or what you want to do with it once you have...)

That sounds reasonable, but this application is designed to intercept the standard "Save"/"Save As" Windows dialog, but a dynamic menu option might do the trick once a window is available to put the menu on.   :)

Not knowing what your requirements were I was actually suggesting 'a menu', like a tray or context menu.  The structure can be built to as many levels as you need.  'Dynamic' menu's are possible, though it will obviously depend on your requirements...

Can AHK build/demolish paths dynamically based on user input?    I know a lot of this depends on the coder.  (FYI - I did add this question to my orig post.)

short answer would be yes.  The long answer will depend on your requirements

I'm not an authority by any means, so it might be a good idea to check the AHK forums (lots and lots of useful/helpful stuff/people there)

certainly do-able in AHK, though it seems to me it would be easier to setup and use as a menu rather than a series of gui's

possibly also see LastChance http://www.fileware....ducts.htm#LastChance

LastChance is a desktop utility that provides the facility to run programs when the machine is shutting down. Once the user chooses Shutdown from the Start menu, LastChance will intercept the shutdown request and optionally run the configured programs, waiting for them to finish before continuing the shutdown procedure.

Post New Requests Here / DONE: 'Used fonts' tool
« Last post by Target on January 21, 2008, 05:08 PM »
Having just migrated several family members to 'new' PCs I thought Skrommels Used Fonts script was a great idea (my wife just can't understand why loading every font in the known universe isn't necessarily a good thing...)

Unfortunately it is rather limited in that it only does word files, and then only one at a time...

What would make this a truly useful tool would be if it could scan your system for a range of 'common' file types and return a list of used fonts

Anyone here got any ideas?? (I've been through the script and the system scan part shouldn't present to much of a problem, but I don't understand the API calls that are the meat of the thing.)

see also my (unanswered) post under Skrommels Software...

Skrommel's Software / Used Fonts - enhancement?
« Last post by Target on January 07, 2008, 06:39 PM »
found this yesterday and the timing was perfect...

in the process of transerring my wife to a new PC and the issue of fonts is always a sore point (she just can't understand why installing every font in the known universe might be a bad thing...)

2 questions -

can it be extended to cover other (common?) file common types (my wife uses Publisher, so PUB support would be good), and

why not extend it to search for all eligible files (rather than just a single file)

the search part seems like it would be pretty straight forward (I've been playing with it myself), however I don't understand the dll calls so I can't work out if the functionality could include any other file types (some experiments with the original file would indicate not, at least in it's current incarnation)

if this could be done, this would be an instant keeper in my (and I suspect many others) toolkit - run it once to see which fonts <i>need</i> to be installed

TIA

how about a link (to the next page) at the bottom of each page?

saves going back to the top so you can select from the sidebar...

nice lists BTW (however did you manage to cull it down to these??)

I stopped years ago, because I was too lazy (I know I should, but I don't, and then I need it, and I haven't done it...)

likewise, I've never gotten around to playing with ntlite (though it too is on my todo list...)

as long as you have SP2 slipstreamed on your XP install CD

lol - this is one of those things on my to do list (it's very long, and getting rather yellow about the edges...)

actually, what I <i>should</i> do is ghost my system (also on my to do list....)

There's also the Windows Updates Downloader project...

yes, but I'm on dial up, and I prefer to have my builds completed (ie patched, firewalled, AV installed) before I go online

it always seemed counter intuitive to do it the otherway round...

Yup, I'm a regular there too

I just figured that they'd picked it up mighty quick - it's only been out in the wild for a couple of weeks (although to be fair, new freeware is getting thin on the ground...)

and don't be so humble, it's a big universe...

Dunno how good this is likely to be, but ran across it this morning

So what is Project Dakota????

Project Dakota is a easy way to update Windows XP.

It is a CD that contains all the updates found on the Windows Update Website, with small standalone programs that run the updates in the order specified by Microsoft according to the order set my Microsoft.
It also includes common programs found on most computers such as Adobe reader, Spybot S&D and Quicktime (and lost more :-)

http://www.theatticn...twork.net/dakota.php

download is an ISO image, unfortunately no details on what it contains (though according the above it contains Lost and Lost...)

mmm, google is your friend (HA!)

see here - http://www.freedownloadmanager.org

and FWIW, i've tried quite a few different D/L managers and this one works for me - enough options, not intrusive/invasive.  As a bonus, you can create a portable version once you've installed it (strange concept, but once you've done it you can uninstall it and use the portable version if you so desire...)

some background on this -

it was originally performed on an Australian TV show called The Money or The Gun <see here http://en.wikipedia....The_Money_or_the_Gun>

It was a comedy show in the early to mid 90's and each episode closed with a band or performer doing a cover of Stairway To Heaven (some were more memorable than others...)

There was a video available featuring 25 performances though I believe it may be out of 'print' (?)

Free Dowwnload Manager handles YouTube vids (and a few others), and does conversion on download (if you want/need that)

Target: To clarify; I'm all about the little boxes and gadgets that make your electrified instrument do goofy noises. Everything from Guitar Effects to Tape Delays to Tube Amplifiers.

cool! (i did get that, but just couldn't resist asking anyways...)

actually, I looked into doing sound engineering at one stage, but was put off by the job prospects (ie nil - the consensus at the time seemed to be that you needed to work for nothing for 12 months to 2 years before you could expect to get a paying job...)

just curious, but just how does one actually repair a sound effect (vintage or otherwise...)?

keep in mind this is a work in progress, and that cost and readily available components are key factors...

Could CandyFab be tweaked to handle a 100mw laser pointer?  These things are powerful enough to light a match, so it should be able to fuse sugar.  And the price is right: $600.

could be onto something here, but why not use the laser out of an 'old' cd/dvd burner (new price for cd\dvd burner is currently under $50 Au)

then for a roll your own solution, there's this...

It this isn't quite in the same league but way ahead pricewise, and while it probably won't be suitable for your next presentation, it will do cranioscopical's donuts!!

Skrommel

glad to see someone else get bit by the copy and paste bug (damn thing gets me every time!!)

the ReRun links point to the BatteryRun files - not the headings, but the 'alternate' links underneath (I prefer to download the scripts - can't learn anything from a compiled exe file...)

an answer, of sorts...

I posted this on AUMHA <see here - http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=29965> and it seems that this is caused by 'unruly' apps.

In my case the culprit is most likely my AHK scripts (I'm still investigating), YMMV...
