Living Room / Re: Happy New Year 2019 for the best forum in the world
« Last post by mouser on December 31, 2018, 09:35 PM »
It is, perhaps, a tad bit of an exaggeration to say we are the best forum in the world..  :-\

But I wouldn't trade places with anyone.. It's a pleasure and an adventure to ring in the new year with all of you extended family members!

« Last post by mouser on December 31, 2018, 09:21 PM »
Another inconvenience.. Because I wrote this is plain old visual studio for maximum efficiency, there is no normal fancy GUI for options like I normally write.. In fact in the current incarnation there is only one option, whether to start with windows or not.. It's on by default but you can change that setting by editing the ProcessWatcher.ini file and changing the StartWithWindows setting to 0.

I was planning to add a lot more functionality, but a kitchen renovation went horribly wrong and i've spent the last month cursing my life.  Today what should have been a simple kitchen cabinet repainting job shit the bed and we're back to square -5.

New version uploaded with proper installer (and portable version), and fully functioning right-click tray menu to quickly bring up the log file.

Living Room / How much of the Internet is fake? Turns out, a lot of it
« Last post by mouser on December 28, 2018, 05:14 PM »
It's not a bug, it's a feature.. The more clicks and views (fake or not), the more money can be made from advertisers.

How much of the internet is fake? Studies generally suggest that, year after year, less than 60 percent of web traffic is human; some years, according to some researchers, a healthy majority of it is bot. For a period of time in 2013, the Times reported this year, a full half of YouTube traffic was “bots masquerading as people,”

yes, this should be a simple matter of rebuilding it with a new manifest file; remind me if i forget to release a new version by the new year.

It might also be some service like the update service, causing your pc to power on at certain times to check for updates.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Shadow color not working

As an experiment try this, after you apply the shadow, try from the Objects menu -> "Flatten background transparency".  Does that show the color now?

For those who happen to stumble upon this thread and don't know, DonationCoder's own Screenshot/snipping/annotation tool is Screenshot Captor (I am the author):

Screenshot Captor / Re: Google Drive Option
« Last post by mouser on December 23, 2018, 07:20 AM »
There are a couple of options:

  • If you can find a commandline utility that sends an image to google drive, you could easily add it as a Tool item to the Screenshot Captor menu.  This is probably the cleanest and simplest way.  If someone finds such a tool I can help show you how to make a screenshot captor tool configuration that will make it easier to share this tool (see the Tools/ directory in Screenshot Captor folder for example tools).
  • If you can find a right-click context menu utility that sends an image to google drive you could right-click on the image in thumbnail to send it to google drive.
  • If you can find a tool that lets you map a folder to google drive, you could do that and simply copy your images to that folder from the MoveTo menu.

Android Apps / Re: Problems getting started with Checklist DC
« Last post by mouser on December 23, 2018, 02:57 AM »
Let me chew on the idea of custom label sizes.. I'm wary of having my android apps explode in custom options like my windows apps, especially since I already have quite a lot of font options..
Yep, I get it now that your attempt use a 3-level hierarchy explains the trouble/confusion you were having.  It's exacerbated by the fact that my apps let you "edit" the categories, which makes it seem like they can be arranged into a top level hierarchy themselves, but in fact the category editor is just letting you rearrange, hide, and rename them.

It has occurred to me that a 3-level hierarchy feature might be useful.. basically letting you OPTIONALLY arrange items into a level above tabs.. call them "Books" (or files).  Unlike tabs, you would only ever be viewing one "book" at a time.  It's just an idea..

The key to categories is to just think of them as TAB names.
Each category represents a tab.  You can even put items on multiple tabs if you want.

How strange.. It's designed to be dead simple.  Hit the + button, add an item.  You can set categories which act to separate items by tabs, if you want. but it's completely optional.

I wonder if it's something related to the screen not fitting on your device..

Living Room / Re: Suddenly screenshotcaptor has no option to print in color
« Last post by mouser on December 22, 2018, 11:40 AM »
Seems unlikely that it would be screenshot captor per se.. It must be the printer settings/driver.
When you go to print with screenshot captor, open the printer settings dialog and see if you can find something telling it to print in black and white.
Let me know.  Anyone else?

Thanks for posting, Gurg.  I tried the download link and agree it's now popping up lots of spam if you try to download it.  Scancode, the original author, comes around fairly regularly -- hopefully he'll see this and give us a fixed download asap.

Clipboard Help+Spell / Re: error:DB65 Some Such or Other ???
« Last post by mouser on December 19, 2018, 05:02 PM »
That was just a way too easy fix for such a huge problem; I did as you said and it seems to have fixed things for now.

My apologies, you should have only seen one such error; I will try to improve that.  This error usually only happens when there is a bluescreen crash and CHS database was in the middle of writing to its database file.

Sounds like maybe the Clipboard Help+Spell database got corrupted; if you kill the program and restart it, do the errors go away?

There is also a "Verify, Repair, Optimize" button on the "Backup/Maintenance" tab of the options.

As a last resort, exit the app, backup your "ClipboardHelpAndSpell/Database" directory, and then remove it's contents and restart.
