This is going to seem strange but.. Do you happen to use Kaspersky Internet Security?

I exchanged emails with someone recently who tracked down the problem to that program.  Here's how he demonstrated he fixed it:

you might consider trying to show and filter results live.. that is, always return to farr the complete list of processes running and let FARR filter them to match what user types.

i'm just impressed that you are grabbing this info using javascript!  that's pretty damn cool.

One place to look to get some idea would be on ebay, for equivalent prices on full boxes copies.  I'm not sure if there is an easy to to look at past auction sales prices.

I wonder if there is a website for such a thing -- valuating objects by search past sale prices, possibly with some discounting rate.  Seems like it would make for a useful web service.

the search engines shouldnt have any trouble spidering the dcmembers sites.. ill check to see if there is some robots directive that might be blocking it. but it may just be that they dont scan it as regularly (yet) as some other pages.

but please do host it wherever works best for you! the dc space will always be here for you, and you can always use it as a backup.

Hi Vaibhav, welcome to the site.
I'm not sure a firefox plugin is the easiest way to get started, but we do have a section of tips on it here: https://www.donation...ndex.php?board=252.0
17584
the real fscript pros are ewemoa, czb, and ecaradec -- maybe we can get them to stop by here and help.
17585
mail me the a full plugin zip file so i can play with it while i help.
17586
how are you returning results from searches? what i mean is, are you using the normal farr results mode or are you showing text in memo or browser mode?

ok let's make sure we are on same page because there are different things that go on:

SEARCHING:

FARR plugins usually search with every keypress, and the plugin is called after every keypress.
The search function sent to your plugin actually also tells you whether user hit enter at the end of their search, in case you want to handle that event as the "trigger" specially.  This is most useful when you have a plugin that is not showing a list of results but is showing some output in richtext or browser mode.

TRIGGERING:
Now if your plugin is returning standard results as the user types, like internet links, program or data file paths, clipboard text snippets, or internal search strings or aliases, etc., then your plugin never has to worry about triggering anything, since farr will do this automatically.
FARR does call a special trigger function that lets you intercept it's normal "trigger" functionality, both for your own results and results generated by normal search and plugin.

SO:
The bottom line is, if the result is returned as a normal FARR result, then you can either let FARR handle the launching of it, or you can catch it with the special trigger function.
If the results are being displayed in richtext or browser mode, then there is no official "TRIGGERING" that gets called -- instead you can either respond to the press of enter by checking the flag in the search function that is called, OR there is a new keypress function that gets called when various keys are pressed that you could use instead (cant remember the names of these functions maybe fscript gurus can help here?)

ctrl+p opens shell context menu as well.

another tip: like ctrl+r, you can also hit it from within the search bar itself to trigger it on first result.

Mini-Reviews by Members / Mini-Review: Breeze Cat Litter System
« Last post by mouser on December 10, 2009, 10:25 PM »
Ok this is weird to be posting it but I figure we are all friends here, why not share some tips and tricks for things other than software.

I've been using* this new cat litter system, Breeze, for the last couple of weeks and I am extremely impressed with it.  It basically uses special reusable pellets and a special liquid absorbing pad (like a diaper) in a bottom compartment to collect liquid waste.

Screenshot - 12_10_2009 , 10_16_36 PM_thumb.png

Website: http://www.breezeforcats.com/

It seems to live up to it's promise of not having any real odor, and it's hands down the easiest litter i've had to clean and maintain by a very wide margin.  The improvement in my cat's life has to be significant since the litter is always clean now and it never was before.  Nothing outside the box either (i've never used clumping clay litter since the sandy grains drive me crazy.  I guess if there was one negative it would be that the solid waste might smell a bit until you remove it since it just lays out there in the open and doesnt get buried.

About Price: Basically they suggest you replace the proprietary pellets once a month, and the proprietary pad once a week.  You can buy these in bulk from Amazon and I think I worked out the price to be about $14 a month in total costs if you do that.  I was spending more than that on the litter i used previously (Feline Pine), and this is far superior, and also there are no liners to buy either.

Also, the supplies take up vastly less space than traditional kitty litter supplies since it uses vastly less litter than traditional litter boxes.

Highly recommend

*Technically it might be more accurate to say that my cat has been using and I have been maintaining.

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: Question about FScript (1.19)
« Last post by mouser on December 10, 2009, 10:06 PM »
fsubscript is easier for smaller plugins, i think the api is a bit simplified.

i should say one other thing -- although its a bit confusing at first, i think you'll find that once you get the hang of it, it's really easy to make plugins in either fscript or fsubscript -- it's just getting started and getting your first plugin working that is the tricky part.

your instinct was right -- find a sample plugin and work from that.

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: Question about FScript (1.19)
« Last post by mouser on December 10, 2009, 09:54 PM »
Let's start off with the basics:
What language are you planning to actually write your fscript-based plugin in? Javascript I assume?
Have you considered using FSubScript instead of Fscript? FSubScript uses Fscript but makes it a bit easier to do common stuff.

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: Question about FScript (1.19)
« Last post by mouser on December 10, 2009, 09:51 PM »
Ok so let me start by saying:
The reason you are frustrated is not your fault -- it's mine for not doing a better job explaining and documenting plugin stuff, and its just the nature of the current state of FARR.
So curse me out, take a deep breath, and then please don't give up.
The other problem is that the fscript plugin wrapper is an incredible thing that i only have the most beginner understanding of.. so im not the best one to help, but ill try until the fscript pros come by.

General Software Discussion / Re: Need Advice on Forum Software
« Last post by mouser on December 10, 2009, 12:43 PM »
There is a lot about SMF to love -- I think my aesthetics and design/administration sensibilities line up very well with the smf coders.

However, one thing that i did not appreciate in 2005 when we set up the forum, is just how important having a less invasive system for incorporating modifications could be.

I'll explain.

In the current generation of modern CMS systems (and more modern forum systems i imagine though i have not kept up with them), a huge amount of effort has gone into letting people build extension modules for the systems that do not involve modifying any core code in the base software.  This actually requires a great deal of work and planning, involves tradeoffs in speed, and requires a lot more documentation.  Essentially a modern cms provides a library of hooks and functions that can be used to allow a module to interface with and modify the functionality of the system in a way that makes it easy to add and remove modules and combine them with little fear of conflicts.  And most importantly of all, it makes it easy to update the core code without interfering with any module code.

SMF unfortunately belongs to the previous generation of systems, where "modifications" quite literally involve modifying the core code or writing replacement files.  Over the years i have made many modifications to the smf forum software, some big, some small.  I find the SMF code (php) relatively logical and well organized, and it's been in many ways fun to modify it.  BUT.. because of the way code modifications work, it means that when a new SMF release comes out, i need to go through a semi-panicked process of reconciling and merging in my modifications into the new updated code base.  Often this is easy, sometimes it's a pain and prone to error.

So that's why I would be happy to recommend SMF to someone who has little need for modifications and addons to the core code, but would be hesitant recommending it to a coder who wants to add features or someone who is hoping to extend the system with lots of addons.
