Intro:

Virtually any designer who works much with text will be familiar with Lorem ipsum which is filler text frequently used in page layouts. Lipsum expands on this and generates meaningless filler text that a designer can use to populate layouts for typographical work, web pages, etc. This dummy content gives a good view of how the layout will look, regardless of subject matter.

Who is this app designed for:

Anyone working with layouts that will ultimately be filled with meaningful text. In this circumstance, it is useful to deploy text that has no particular meaning, the purpose being to see whether the layout itself will be pleasing to the eye, properly balanced and so forth.

The Good

Lipsum will use text already on the clipboard if so desired. More importantly it also comes pre-populated with a variety of texts (including Lorem ipsum). Thanks to a very simple, relatively unobtrusive interface, with a few large buttons, one can choose quickly whether to use text from the clipboard or any one of the preset texts. Further, one can choose the number of paragraphs to generate as well as the length of those paragraphs. Another useful benefit is the ability to generate texts in a variety of languages. The chosen text is then sent to the clipboard  for easy pasting into the layout under construction.

The needs improvement section

I can see no area that needs improvement in the way Lipsum actually functions. It would be a nice bonus were it possible to add other items to the already copious preset texts.

Why I think you should use this product

If you work with layouts using large amounts of textual material, Lipsum will help you preview how your layout will look. This is better than having to work from empty placeholders. Because most of the texts used will be meaningless in the context of the page, it is possible to concentrate on how the layout looks instead being distracted by what the layout says. This is a very important step in the design process.

Conclusions

This is a nice piece of free software to perform quickly a task that will be familiar to those working with text layouts in various media.

Just an update,
  • I'm a bit later then I promised with my next release, but I'll get to that in a minute...
  • I'm still testing with the buttonarrangement settings and ironing out the last minor bugs. Placement has to be just right when combining several kinds of smaller buttons in place of 1 big button.
  • What I got so far for this: (smaller buttons)
    • 2 buttons horizontal or vertical
    • 3 buttons horizontal or vertical
    • 4 buttons equally divided
    • 6 buttons arranged 3x2 or 2x3
    • 9 buttons equally divided
    • And a big button spanning 2 standard buttons
  • And the smasher that is taking some more time:
    • A set of buttons depending on the active application...

I'm fighting with the colors (disappearing) now, as it's obviously in beta, but I'll report back soon.

Boy, this sounds really promising.
I went off to buy one of the iMo Monster 10" touch screens but they're temporarily sold out.

I don't feel _quite_ as motivated if it's just me peeing into the wind here

Okay, I don't like to think of your efforts as just a plash in the fan.
You've 'guilted' me into an even shorter mini review than the micro-mini piece that's coming later this month.

Funny, most of the stuff I use is either too small/boring to merit a review or far too complex to consider.
1756
this won't be a screenshoting tool, and it won't be a very useful general image database.. this is much more of a dumb image clipboard history feature.  It's primary feature will be to provide access to, and backup for, images you put on the clipboard in the recent past.

I always had a 'thing' for Wilma off the Flintstones. But I knew it could never be...

... she'd never leave Fred.

There'd be a Barney were she to do so.

It's no surprise that my vote for this one is
                                YES              YES               YES

There are any number of image capture programs, but I find it extremely useful to have this feature running under the auspices of a clipboard monitor/manger.
1760
A simple solution would be a small pop-up window (or whatever equivalent a good programmer can develop) to show a message on the screen simply saying something to the effect:  "BOOT PROCESS HAS COMPLETED" or "YOUR SYSTEM IS NOW READY FOR USE" --- you get the idea.

Thanks in advance to all your ideas and efforts.

This might work for you, also, it's easy enough to adapt. If it doesn't perform as expected there's little chance that it will be changed at this point, so don't be too disappointed

Thank you!
(A few DC credits coming your way.)

can you try the new upload?

Didn't notice this at first.
Appreciate the enhancements.
(What I think is) the latest download pops up the extra menu on shift-click in sub-groups.
I like the stack.
Watched the video, if I weren't confused before I am now — just kidding, thanks for taking the time!

Not what you're seeking I knos, but conceivably could be useful in a pinch.

tray clips that are in their own submenus instead of on root menu. working on it now.

Even more crazy...  :)
1765
New beta update posted that fixes tray menu shift+click submenu.

or not  :)

1.45.02: I don't see the secondary menu here.
I left click CH+S icon, at the foot of the pop-up menu I see the note about shift-clicking. I select an item, hold shift and click that item, no menu, just pasting the item.  :o
1766
Make it 3 :) ...I'm still working through my 50/50 plan/stash so should be able to hit that (poor tired doe...)

Excellent, thanks!  I'm sure that doe will appreciate another big hart…

Oh dear, oh dear!

Someone seems to be trying very hard to be tiresome. Let's not squabble. There are enough of us here to decide whether and how changes will be made, and no one voice is likely to prevail, no matter how shrill.
1768
only set it up for use with the QUICK PASTE popup menu (triggered by configurable hotkey in options); only crazy people use the system tray menu.

Exactly!
1769
In the quick paste popup, if you hold shift while selecting an item, you will now see a secondary menu for that clip:

I don't see the secondary menu here.
I left click CH+S icon, at the foot of the pop-up menu I see the note about shift-clicking. I select an item, hold shift and click that item, no menu, just pasting the item.
Is there something in the options that I might have turned on/off that might defeat the menu?

Thx
1770
And the 1/3 button size I got also finished.

Keep this up and all of us will be running out to buy mini touch screens!
Oh, and while you're at it, can you write something that will prevent the surface from picking up fingerprints?  :D

Very nice.

A good, inventive system, explained in a succinct way that even I could understand!

Thanks for sharing the idea, and for a post in the 'how-to' genre. I think that posts such as this have the potential to be very informative about a lot of things.

The major errors were of course intentional.
I think that's true in general but it probably should be a private matter.

"that's the last time I do THAT for a couple of bucks"

And the devil take the hind most.

What does one have to do?

Hmm, anyone who wants in could just agree (here?) that we'll do it and maybe each drop $25 in the kitty on 31st?

That okay?

I'm in if you're in…

Oops, back to those two bucks  :-[
