Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: Weather Watcher 5.6 - now better than ever!
« Last post by brotherS on November 12, 2005, 12:19 AM »
Should I recommend a good clean freeware program even if the authors also host or create adware infested programs? Yes No other.
Yes - but tell that coder that one would simply prefer a "Donate" button in the program (@mouser: idea for you too?).

Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: Locate 3.0 - great HD search tool
« Last post by brotherS on November 11, 2005, 08:38 AM »
Very interesting software here, specially this 'Locate' thingie...
Hi there! You need to test way more stuff, especially mouser's Screenshot Captor and skrommel's Coding Snacks on this very site!

However, I'm wondering why nobody mentionned the excellent Total Commander (http://www.ghisler.com/) with its almighty all-powerful search feature ?
It's one of the few shareware I actually bought  8)
Then you should consider donating a few bucks here to enjoy this LOAD of great programs! :) Makes forum usage more fun too btw!

I tried Total Commander once but didn't really like the look and feel of it.

For more ideas see https://www.donation...p?topic=1484.new#new - but that would mean taking things to a really different level, meaning multiple coders working on the project to get it out fast.

Official Announcements / Re: Programming Contests Coming Soon.. Suggestions?
« Last post by brotherS on November 11, 2005, 02:20 AM »
First idea: further develop my idea from https://www.donation.../index.php?topic=934 - with these features:

- to take the load off of the ShoutCast servers, make it somehow P2P so that users exchange the "now playing" stream data and not every user needs to load the same streams. This would also allow to update the stream info more often.
- add great ideas like skrommel's "change to stream if title contains foo*bar*title*" idea
- add something like Amazon's lovely "Customers who bought this book also bought" idea, like "User who watch what you watch also watch..." to help users to discover new streams based on their interest - many LOVE feature like this!
- add a simple, unobtrusive messaging option so one could talk to other users with the same taste to discuss stations, ideas, whatever
- add options like "always on top", "always on top until another program runs in full-screen mode" (video players or image viewers), etc.

:-*

In the long run, you could even add a sophisticated ripping option ("rip all" or "rip 160 MB" or "rip for 4 hours" or "rip if stream title contains foo*bar*title*"; this is legal AFAIK) and make this THE add-on program for every Winamp listener! Imagine how much publicity this could bring to the DC site! 8)

Yay!!

Completely unrelated but a new idea too:

Good ideas there, I'd love if you could add the main feature why I want a tool like this: to be able to see what my favorite stations are playing right now with one look at the GUI, listed there.

Mouser's Zone / HOW and WHERE to report bugs and suggestions!
« Last post by brotherS on November 10, 2005, 09:20 PM »
Please use the new BUG TRACKER (see button above) to report bugs and suggestions. If you feel it also needs to be discussed you can report it there and post the exact URL with comments here.

@mouser: Please make this sticky, feel free to add info :)

i have 2 ideas:
[...]
3) have command to shrink and grow selection.

what do you think?
I like your third out of those 2 ideas :D

Maybe ad a slider where one could change the growth?

you are right. i will change.
Nice. Additional idea: You could also put "suggest new ideas and report bugs" in the mouse-over info there! :)

a note:
the new bugtracker is a great motivator for me as well as a great way to keep track of bugs.
I suggest to rename that button to "bug tracker".

We now have buttons for the profile, the chat, the wiki, ... - we should also have the bug tracker.

« Last post by brotherS on November 10, 2005, 08:53 PM »
You see, often i don't want to always save my shots/modifications, but just modifiy and copy.
Yeah, the "undo" needs to get better, I suggest you put this suggestion into the bug tracker.

:) Do anyone know where I can get in touch with the WinAmp people?

I've posted a petition at WinAmp Forums http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?s=f318116be2ec7c2898bf6ce883d96a1b&threadid=230454, but yet no contact.
Posted a reply there, maybe a more active thread catches their attention :)

« Last post by brotherS on November 10, 2005, 02:12 PM »
thanks for the shortcut report stefan, i took your advice (mostly) and made ctrl+U be unselect, and ctrl+alt+S shortcut for save new version, shift+alt+S for save region.
I'd love to be able to change the standard shortcuts or disable them, so I could avoid problems with global hotkeys from other programs (Winamp, AutoHotkey, Locate, ...)

Locate does it like this:

Hi brotherS,

Did you consider if you wanted to add any more comments to this article?
http://freewarewiki....i.com/WeatherWatcher

It's fine the way it is, but you didn't get a chance to say very much.
Have not that much time right now, send me a PM if you don't see changes to it by saturday :)

Additional note:

I noticed at the author's website it offered two installs. One has budled adware and a few extra features. The other is the freeware version without the adware.

Can you tell me if the version you are using installed anything else besides itself. I kinda got some shivers when I saw there was an adware version with WhenU and SaveNow.
Eww, that must be new. I only get the version from http://fileforum.betanews.com/ and never got spyware/adware with it!

Here are a couple of bars ... one large, one small - feel free to use them ...
I like the smaller one, could you maybe add another one saying "great software for a great price - YOU name it!", so that YOU is the only text with caps there?

And maybe one with blue instead of black background?

Hmm, just had an idea... what about you create one or two internal pages (for those that are interested) that just link to the main page and the specials page?

Everyone taking part could than spread 'his' own URLs and it would be better possible to track it! I like the idea :)

I did put
www.donationcoder.com - lots of nice freeware/donationware!
in my email signature, a few guys already visited the DC site for the first time because of this :) (they told me)

Also, I told folks I know on IRC, ICQ and AIM about the site and November fundraiser.

Lets hope you'll get lots of donations to finance the new server and maybe a few more tools that you need for coding or site development.

And you can even have it watch for song titles or artist names, and change stream automatically!
Great idea!

@Stefan: While I can't stand those colors I like the ideas, especially the first in the second row

@Carol: at first I thought you were starting a "who blinds the DC users first" contest with Stefan ;)

Congratulations to mouser for this really great site, I'm very impressed by the effort he and other contributors are putting into this project - I think it's certainly worth it! It's amazing to see this concept works so well.

I'm glad to tell you that I'm now supporting the November Fundraiser with a couple of free licences for DoubleKiller Pro, a flexible duplicate file finder, and a 30% discount available to all DonationCoder.com members.

I can just repeat what Martin said: Have a nice celebration month!
Welcome! And thanks for the free licenses and discount for the fundraiser!

I not only like your program, your profile picture is nice too :)

Yeah, variety would be good! Too bad I can't help you there (only with object ideas), I'm not that gfx expert myself  :(

Hopefully we have some other capable folks besides Stefan here? I remember Carol showing us that funny movie image? :D

I'd like to be able to set a hotkey for
- "bring SC to front / hide SC to tray"

I'll may be adding more suggestions to this list later :D
