I really liked it, but I use my laptop for mail and its only got a 1.5 celeron and the performance hit on outlook was just too great.

Local bookshop will provide cheap but usable dictionaries and thesaurus, maybe pick up strunk and whites elements of style while you are there and you'll not need such a program.

General Software Discussion / Re: Google Chrome -- key reasons for its debut
« Last post by Grorgy on September 03, 2008, 05:36 PM »
Seems to me they are just lazy, and the comments around the web sort of suggest that people aren't as gullible as they perhaps once were with these sort of things, privacy and anonymity matter to more and more people so companies like google will have to lift their game if they really want to stay in the game long term.

That's my problem with these as well, I don't feel the need for the function mostly and when I do I forget anyway  ;D  Stardock have one too, though I can't remember what it was like. (It is a part object desktop, don't know if it comes separately.)

Its worth watching though i think, its new, and still a beta (yeah I know almost all googles stuff is lol) so it may improve in a few more releases and the bugs and complaints dealt with.

It also installs a 'google updater' to run at windows startup, got enough starting already without google jumping in!

ahhhh, it may have been that FARR had focus and I was clicking away wondering where it had all gone lol.  maybe it was a passing gremlin, or I was just doing it wrong (most likely) anyway it now works with notepad, and I'm too tired to test it again tonight.

I'm not real sure what is going on with this.  V1.2 works great, since then I have had no success. It doesn't take focus ever, it somehow resets just about all the FARR settings!   and well I haven't been able to use it, no real problem for me, 1.2 has all I need for 99.9% of what i want it for, but others may be experiencing something similar.

Wow, anyone citing wikipedia is immediately told off in no uncertain terms where I go to school.  Its useful for background information and to suggest a way to go perhaps but it is not considered a reputable scholarly work, at least here.

There was an article in a recent (last year or so) national geographic magazine about a professional photographer sent out with just his cell phone camera to photograph his trip (it was in USA i think) i couldn't find it on a quick look at their website but, anyway he took amazing photos with a pretty standard phone, personally I haven't even worked out how to use the camera in the phone yet

So, did anyone take the plunge and buy this new version?  If you did could you let us know if its worth it, or if we will save more by using their old one?

Thanks

Most of the people i 'talk' to on the internet are not people I have met, sometimes, but not often we use video, but usually just text, probably because of multitasking, well ok, i tell a lie, i don't multitask, single tasking on something different  ;)  you can just wander away for a coffee and rejoin the conversation and no one is the wiser.  My real life friends and relatives seem to live in the stone age!
