Living Room / ham radio operator speaks with space station
« Last post by tinyvillager on September 25, 2006, 05:52 AM »
Source: http://www.canada.co...ca1e4fce&k=82481

"Mr. Carroll spoke on Thursday with Anousheh Ansari, an Iranian-American space tourist aboard the International Space Station (ISS)."

"I heard her say, 'C-Q, C-Q, C-Q,' and of course that means she wants to talk to someone, anyone who is listening," Mr. Carroll said. "And I thought: What the heck, you can't lose by trying."

---I need to get a ham radio.

Are you sure you're using a download manager that can handle streams?

I'm using Net Transport
http://www.net-xfer.com/default.htm
 and can get it.

It bounces to this http://acc.windowsme...-11.wmv?MSWMExt=.asf

Or try this
mms://64.94.28.40/ACC06_I2/422/422-11.wmv?MSWMExt=.asf

When ever you get source that's like 1kb (like the 1kbyte .wmv) it's like a furtune cookie (a container)
open the file up with a text editor...this what's inside

[Reference]
Ref1=http://acc.windowsmedia.astutetech.com/ACC06_I2/422/422-11.wmv?MSWMExt=.asf
Ref2=http://64.94.28.40:80/ACC06_I2/422/422-11.wmv?MSWMExt=.asf

But all in all you need a download manager that can handle streams,

http://sdp.ppona.com/  -free,but can only handle windows media streams
http://www.gigaget.com/ -free,though i've heard it's sort of adware,not spyware but adware,don't know?

Inkscape-vector graphics editor, just damn cool, even your mistakes look cool
  Net Transport-downloader of choice,records streams,etc.
  Google Earth-Just damn fun

http://forum.alcohol-soft.com/

Five posts down it mentions it being free...

"Our retail version still supports 31 virtual drives.

Remember you can not run Alcohol 52% if you have Alcohol 120% installed on the same drive.

This version of Alcohol 52% is for private, non-commercial, single home computer use only. The license is provided personally to you and for that reason it does not allow you to make any duplicate (copy) to be sold, borrowed, assigned, leased or transferred"

If your like me you have multiple tech news sources, well some are still linking to the beta version
of Picasa/Picasaweb and still labeling it 2.5 Build 32.94,

http://dl.google.com...saweb-setup-beta.exe
MD5 Hash-F059B7A4D605BCA44249C82191396187

This is what you should go for....

Now i have Picasa installed (2.5 Build 32.94) and it allows you to post to the Picasaweb service, point
being Picasa/Picasaweb should be one in the same.( This is what i gather,if i'm wrong by all means fill
me in)

General Software Discussion / Re: Create animated gifs
« Last post by tinyvillager on September 17, 2006, 08:14 PM »
http://www.gamani.com/

GIF Movie Gear is awsome,i'm using the 30 day trial (29$US),a bit expensive but i might actually buy it.You can import avi, export gif, swf, etc. It's worth checking out if your into animated avatar creation,or any animation for that matter. It's a very clean app in my opinion.

From what i see it's an uncrippled 30 day trial so even if you just need to do some quick animation it's worth
the download.

And though not as good, but decent none the less is Easy gif animator from blumentals,($19 US)
I actually bought this a few months back and i'm satisfied with it but Gif Movie Gear i'd have to say is
better.

 http://www.blumentals.net/egifan

On a side note ,Blumentals has some pretty good software,i've purchased Easy gif animator,WeBuilder 2006,
and screensaver wonder off them and i'm satisfied with all, they have a forum as well which is always a plus.

General Software Discussion / Re: What to you think of RealPlayer?
« Last post by tinyvillager on September 08, 2006, 01:14 PM »

I believe it's better than Itunes,Windows Media Player, etc. That being said i like the format more than i like
the player and i believe that's why it's not as popular.I also think Real networks as a company does a terrible
job at selling it's format to consumers. No hardware support, etc.

You can find Divx/DVD players at Wal-Mart now, that's impressive considering Divx has only been around a
fraction of the time of Real Networks.

In short i think flash, love it or hate,is the future of streaming media.Their even going to make it more linux friendly from what i hear.
187
WOW is right, the specials page is insane this month. :o

There is at least 15 items i want, and the ones that remain i just about have already cause
i've purchase them in the past through this site.

Incredible work mouser and of course all the programmers that have offered these generous discounts.

Yeah i had a lot of fun with the windows app (FairUse4WM) and Urge over the weekend :D
I have to admit i would've never tried out Urge if it wasn't for this app.Microsoft updated and
ruined the party though, but i can vouch, it did work.

There is supposed to be an anti-drm day in October, the third i think,so i've read here and there.
You can bet they'll be some sort of "attack" against all these subscription based music stores.

UrlSnooper / Re: URLsnooper didn't work.
« Last post by tinyvillager on August 11, 2006, 03:28 AM »
Nice to see someone finally using picasaweb, pretty cool.

I'm confused about no script box shown,do you mean once you have the packets in front of you you can't
right-click and have the context menu with options pop up.

Here's a screencast of what i look at when i'm using url snooper.
http://screencaster....es.com/urlsnoop.html

BTW,i could never get auto-detect network driver to work either,go it on manual, everthing working fine.
If you ever need a download manager to compliment url snooper i highly recommend

http://www.net-xfer.com/default.htm Shareware
http://www.gigaget.com/  Freeware

These handle mms,rtsp,etc. type streams

Here's some other tools in my stream recording bag.

http://sdp.ppona.com/  Freeware
http://streamripper.sourceforge.net/ Freeware

Site Ripper*Spider*
http://www.httrack.com/ Freeware

Haven't tried but want to ,downloads just about everything, even youtube videos
http://applian.com/replay-av/ Shareware

Like app103,
i vote for test OS (the one you tested it on)-basically include your system specs
License type (shareware, freeware, donationware, open source)
supported OS's

Good ideal (template) btw.

It would make donationcoder stand out amongst other forums.

I find the way it still handles bookmarks a real PITA.Absolutely lame.
Bookmark management is a huge deal in a browser if you ask me.Just as important as tab browsing.

I pretty sure it turn something on called Ctfmon, didn't have it pop up in my process' before install is all i know. >:(

Btw if your getting the ctfmon process--

Go to Control Panel, “Region and Language Options”, select “Languages”, “Details”, “Advanced” tab and check the box next to “Turn off advanced text services.” That will remove ctfmon from startup. BTW after you select “Details” if you select “Language Bar” you can permanently get rid of that annoying Language Bar toolbar. Of course if you use the functions supported by the Language Bar and ctfmon then you are stuck with it running in the background.

I found that in another forum i can't find the source at the moment, but it worked for me and i logged it away
in a text file for future reference.

The techique is called Rotoscope,i heard it took 500 hrs a minute (seriously)

Yeah from a critic point of view Keanu is only good for certain rolls,Matrix part one,Speed.Dracula was a good movie, but he sucked in it,hard to shake that surfer dude thing ala Bill and Ted's excellent adventure.

http://www.reaper.fm/

After v0.999 it goes shareware, word around the campfire it'll be around 40 USD.
Looks good though i have to admit i'm not a musician or audio engineer.
Worth a look.

It's at v0.999 btw.

I wanted badly to see this movie, actually the only movie i've cared seeing so far this year but they put it in limited release and i can't find a theater within a reasonable distance (50 miles) that shows it.

I guess i'll twindle my thumbs til the DVD comes out. :(

Thanks for the link Edvard.

BTW,if anyone wants the direct link to first 24 minutes

 Thank you both...

 :-[ Too simple. :-[

Side note,i solved the BB FlashBack express problem with an alternative method which was more related
to me running some registry cleanups emmediately after uninstall, the problem being i deleted a temporary
startup program that was suppose to uninstall the old capture driver upon reboot.

I had to go into My Computer properties>Hardware>Device Manager>Display adapters> and manually uninstall
there.Wanted to describe that just in case someone runs into the same problem.

None the the less thank you kimmchii and Carol for advice,i'll log that away in the old memory banks.
198
I'm having problems with installing BB FlashBack express' latest edition (i've posted in their forum a few moments ago), i can install the app itself, but the capture driver itself refuses to install, did clean install, etc
Found some registry keys (that give me can't delete prompts >:( ) And i'm thinking that might be the
hangup.

Basically something like UNLOCKER except for registry keys.

Anyone know if Zoom Player and Light Alloy has screencapture ability,it's the only reason i have VLC on my
computer at the moment.Media Player classic craps out on me with screencapture alot.

I'll always have foobar for audio but i'm looking for the end all be all when it comes
to video and Zoom Player and Light Alloy looks real close to what i want,Light Alloy is looking even sexier
with that price.

http://www.dafont.com/en/top.php

Pay and free
http://www.fontsforflash.com/

http://home.swipnet.se/~w-55723/pixel/

And some blogger that makes some bitmap fonts and stuff
http://www.04.jp.org/

I'm big on the bitmap fonts
I don't no the the technical differences between bitmap and programmer fonts but i also use Jibz's Dina font
for graphics and it makes a good replacement for foobar2000 playlist font
