Overrides View > Full Screen (and F11) to switch to "almost full screen" mode, where the titlebar and borders of the window are removed and it's resized to use all the space on the screen except for that which the Windows taskbar occupies.

Note: this doesn't work properly if the Windows taskbar is set to auto-hide

I checked out 'Locate'.  It is an effective file search but that's not what I'm looking for as I have similar tools already.

What I like about F+RR is that it has a small footprint and is superfast.  I was hoping you could tweak it so it could run as more of a revved up file finder to instantaneously pop up my most recently accessed files.

Let me try to explain my idea a little better.  The idea was/is:

   1.) To define in the configurator the file type (e.g., specify my most commonly used file types such as *.doc, *.xls, *.mdb,     
        *.exe, *.mp3, *.jpg while excluding virtually everything else). 

   2.) Define a time frame to look back at accessed files (e.g., set my default to find only those files that have been accessed 
        within the last two days or three days or whatever). 

   3.) Use the icon tool bar was a way to click on the file type I want to filter or find.


I think F+RR would be the perfect vehicle so please take it into consideration.

Dear Mouser,

I love this program.  In fact, I’ve installed and uninstalled it about 5 times.  The problem is…Ok, I admit it….I have webbed hands and I rely on the mouse for navigation.  I have tried to futz with the configuration settings but it just gets me further and further away from the desired result.

I apologize if these ideas have been suggested on previous posts but I would like to respectfully request some additions (when the time is right of course) to make it easier for mouse-addicts like me.

Requests:

1. New toolbar with user selected icons representing file TYPE (not program execution).  User clicks on icon to bring that file type to top of list (see attached screen capture).

2. Allow for inclusion/exclusion of files by date in the configuration settings.

3. Ditto for file size

I have started using SC more and more.  It's terrific.  One problem though....No matter what I do, I can't seem to figure out how to do an autoscroll capture.  I looked at the help info and I just don't get it. Can someone explain how this is done (a posting with SC images might do the trick).

nudone,  I use a bunch of differrent extensions for various things but to get the tab functionality in good working order, you probably want to get the following extensions.  It takes a little tweaking to get the settings right.

Tab Mix Plus 0.3.0.4 (essential)
Colorful Tabs 0.3 (so pretty)
Closy 1.1.0 (not sure this is needed w/Tab Mix Plus but I had already installed it)
Tabbrowser Preferences 1.2.8.8 (ditto)

The only thing I really miss are the so-called ‘System Buttons’ on the System Bar in Maxthon but there are other ways to get there in Firefox.  And it's probably only a matter of time before this option comes along.

It would also be nice if there was an easy way to import the Maxthon Groups into Firefox.  Probably is but I haven't figure it out yet.

I tip my saucer to the folks at Maxthon for providing such a powerful, easy to use browser available for free.  I have to admit, I still have it loaded and I'm not 100% converted yet.

As a former Maxthon addict, I found it hard to tear myself away it , but once you add the proper extensions (especially the tabbing extensions) Firefox is every bit as powerful  and more so with all the other free extensions that continue to be developed.

Glad to see you like X1.  It's a great program.......Can't comment on that GDS thing, though.  We don't speak the G-word on my planet where domestic spying has already become rampant.

Another great desktop search tool that I mentioned previously is dtSearch which also has an option to index entire web sites.  The program is frequently upgraded and improved.

The freebies are ok but for serious searching you need a more sophisiticated program.

I send/receive lots of email and constantly search for previous correspondence, names of people, attachments, etc.  I couldn't live without X1 Desktop Search and I keep it running at all times.  It will index nearly every file type that I use including Outlook message content and message attachments, pdf file content, and all MS file types.   

I use it mainly for its Outlook abilities (also works with Mozilla, OE and Eudora) but it indexes not only the name of the file but its content, and is searchable/filterable in many different ways and allows you to view the 'result' of the search, not just the name or location of the file or message.

Indexing can be set to include or exclude specific file types.  I use it on my laptop but I believe there is a server version.

The initial indexing takes a while but incremental indexes are quite fast.

Unfortunatly it's not free.  In fact it is pricier than I would like but I have not fund a better alternative.

I have been using Mathon primarily because of the 'tab' capabilities.  When it comes to Firefox, for those of us who are addicted to manipulation and control of 'tabs', THE most essential extension is Tab Mix Plus.

I am embarrassed to ask this question but I tried FARR and like it very much.  The problem I have (and it is not unique to FARR) is that when I open the Preferences dialogue, the text is truncated as shown in the attached file.

Any suggestions on how to fix this  ?My screen resolution is set to 1024x768.

I live and die by launchers and find them to be incredible time savers once they are set up properly.

I intend to try out some of the programs mentioned in this posting but I have been very pleased with the previously mentioned Free Launch Bar at http://www.freelaunchbar.com/.  One feature that I would like is an ability to more easily store and save the launcher set up so they can be moved to another computer or reinstalled at a later date.

I also use another freeware program called Micro-Sys Launcher 1.46 available at http://www.micro-sys.dk/products/launcher/ .  This is an older program that could use some updating but it has some good features.  I installed before Free Launch Bar and since I spent so much time setting up the launches I couldn’t bear to trash it.
