Congratulations.   I have pretty good experience messing with MBR.  But with W8 they changed to this UEFI and GPT jazz.  I understand it had to be changed to accommodate huge storage.  But I don't dare to do anything without a lot of reading in preparation and expendable machines to experiment with.  

Plus a lot of bootable utilities that worked for sure on MBR are now suspect.  Can't take anything as a given.

Thanks Curt. I will try this on my 32-bit Win 7 along with Paragon Backup before sacrificing it on the altar of Win 10.

I have had problems with Paragon Drive Backup making a backup capsule where it messed up my partition table information on a Vista x64 machine.  This bug might be fixed by now.  But make sure you have a way to restore your partition table setup other than Paragon if you use the capsule technique.  Fortunately my machine would still boot.

Paragon backup capsule worked flawlessly for me in XP.  So I am not a Macrium fanboy just bashing it.

Many people saw Alvin Lee play for the first time in the Woodstock film.  As I say, he fed off the energy of the crowd.  Tough to get a larger more energetic crowd than Woodstock.  It has a jading effect.  I must have seen him play I'm Goin' Home live 10 times at various venues.  Nothing came close to the Woodstock version.  Plus the split screen camera work.  I am surprised his head didn't explode from all those people glued to his every lick. 

He wasn't really as good a guitarist as he was a showman. He did variations on the same bundle of licks because he could play them the fastest.  He did essentially the same show for years.  He tweaked it over time and knew how to get the crowd going.  Always a fun show if not a virtuoso performance.  That's why buying the studio albums of TYA is close to a waste of money.

I used EaseUS ToDo Backup Free in the past.  It worked fine on a Vista and Windows7 machine. I tried it on Windows 8.0 and it would not make a bootable USB for rescue.  But this Laptop has issues. It might be fine on your system.

As with all these some work on some hardware and some on others.  The only way to know for sure is to try it.

I'm not sure how this is different from ToDo Backup unless it stores the rollback on your current HD.  But if you have an external I think imaging backups are generally more useful.

Edit:  also it can depend on how much stuff it stores on the local HD.  If it stores the whole system partition on a hidden partition I had that with Paragon Drive Backup.  It worked well for me on XP.  But even if it works the drive is going to keep thrashing(if it is a spinner) as it goes back and forth copying back the image.  If you have a USB 3.0 or similar fast external HD to read from it may be faster to use a conventional backup image.  If the system drive is SSD then fetching from another partition should not be an issue(as long as the software that makes the partition doesn't scramble the partition information as happened to me on Vista with this "backup capsule" type of scheme.)

I ran into this exact problem last year after replacing the hard drive in a Dell laptop. The restore process is supposed to hide that partition at the end of the restore process, but doesn't necessarily do so. IIRC I found a way to do it from the command line. If I get some time, I'll see if I can find the command I used.

Probably diskpart.  Run it from an administrative command prompt(or elevated as they say these days.)

edit: This tutorial on a Vista system changes a recovery partition to show it by changing the type to 07. Supposedly 07 is visible ntfs 17 is hidden and 27 is a recovery partition.  If 17 doesn't work try 27.

Yup.  It was already listed when I posted.  I like them too.  Mike Judge did Office Space which is one of my favorite flicks.  I don't understand why Jennifer Aniston didn't come over my place to watch Kung Fu flicks.  But that's another story. 

Speaking of adult cartoons it looks like South Park will go on forever.

It is more fun watching the vids if you were at the shows.  There was one "official bootleg" album of a concert maybe in Germany or someplace, that did the shows justice.  Same routine as Alvin Lee always did.  It gave a good idea of a typical TYA concert in the late 60s, early 70s.  As an aside, I saw Ten Years After at Clark University in Worcester, MA.  Opening for TYA was a solo guitar act.  This dude just sat on a chair with an acoustic guitar, a couple of microphones, and started singing stuff like "Fire and Rain."  Yeah, it was James Taylor touring for his first album.

Generally I liked the Warner Brothers cartoons, also Rocky & Bullwinkle, Yogi Bear etc..

But here are a couple of variations on the same theme.  In the first, Tom Terrific can morph himself into anything.  My older brother and I used to watch the Captain Kangaroo show, which showed the Tom Terrific cartoons weekday mornings.  Since my brother was named Tom I had be be Manfred The Wonder Dog(tm.)    

The evil mastermind who was out to destroy Tom was Crabby Appleton.  Needless to say, he was proud of being "rotten to the core." 

In the second variation, Felix The Cat had a "magic bag of tricks" that he could contort into any device or machine.  Like if he needed a ride it became a car, canoe  etc..

Also I liked Tennessee Tuxedo, just because the voices were easy to mimic.  Don Adams used his Get Smart voice for Tennessee and I have no idea who did Chumley.  But doing  few lines could get a quick laugh.

I just found this video this morning.  When I first started going to concerts it was mainly to see Ten Years After.  Back then the albums put out by the group tended to be 2 to 3 minute studio versions of the songs.  So when you said you liked Ten Years After people who heard those tunes on the radio thought you were stupid.

But Alvin Lee worked the same perfomance live for years and perfected it.  When he got the energy from the crowd he got into it(as shown by the Woodstock version of "I'm Goin' Home" a tune he used to end their concerts.)

Anyway, this is one of the better renditions I have seen of Cryin'

That is wild.  I never heard of a machine without a positive off button.  Sometimes I have to hold it down for about 7 or 8 seconds.  But it always kills the Laptop.  My sample size is rather small.  This Toshiba is the only Lappy I ever owned.

I don't install beta versions of anything.
Further more, you all have debated it as if everybody knows it, but not really telling what it can do.

I just asked over on TenForums and guys running it say W 10 still does not have Explorer with tabs.  I think they are trying to sneak through the entire life cycle of Windows without updating the Explorer shell.  It must be a gigantic pile of spaghetti code.

Just to create a curiosity some company should make The Last Desktop, with The Last Spinner for HD and The Last Version of Windows as OS.  Input would be via The Last Kedyboard and The Last Pointing Device.  Video would be displayed on The Last CRT Monitor and audio would be played on The Last Stereo Speakers.

For power you plug it into The Last A/C Wall Socket.

Thank you for asking.  FolderCache got a write-up awhile back here

PastePath was inspired by a post on DC.  I forget the location of the post.  But it mentioned another software that made it easy to paste in an Explorer folder path.  That is all PastePath does.  It remembers the last folder that was active and pastes it when you hit the hotkey.  I detects a command prompt and pastes it in so that the prompt will accept it(I believe it right clicks the mouse.)  Very simple but it is convenient for avoiding drilling down in SaveAs and Open dialogs. It will paste into anything that accepts clipboard text via Control v.

It is not perfect.  It won't get the path of special folders like Computer(neither will FolderCache.)  One of these days I should add that in but I fear making the calls to get the special folder CLSIDs or names may be slow.  If you use a file manager other than File Explorer then these two utilities may not be all that useful.  But if you mainly  do file copy/move with Explorer they may make a few things a bit easier.

^yeah, it's the same one - at the time there were problems with it tracking your activity *after* uninstalling it. I would presume they fixed that since due to the bad press, but probably worth researching.

Trouble is it is hard to keep the tracking to zero.  If you use ToolWiz TimeFreeze or some other sandbox, fine, the stuff is erased when you reboot.  But they are still gathering the data while you surf.  It is really annoying.

There should be some kind of class action suit where they would have to pay us for this data.  It might slow them down if it cost them a few bucks.  Plus if they are going to spy on you at least you could subpoena their own data as proof they owe you money!!!
