If anyone wants to try coding a Kindle app seriously.. maybe we can

“We’ve heard from lots of developers over the past two years who are excited to build on top of Kindle,” said Ian Freed, Vice President, Amazon Kindle. “The Kindle Development Kit opens many possibilities–we look forward to being surprised by what developers invent.”
The Kindle Development Kit enables developers to build active content that leverages Kindle’s unique combination of seamless and invisible 3G wireless delivery over Amazon Whispernet, high-resolution electronic paper display that looks and reads like real paper, and long battery life of seven days with wireless activated.
...
Starting next month, participants in the limited beta will be able to download the Kindle Development Kit, access developer support, test content on Kindle, and submit finished content. Those wait-listed will be invited to participate as space becomes available. The Kindle Development Kit includes sample code, documentation, and the Kindle Simulator, which helps developers build and test their content by simulating the 6-inch Kindle and 9.7-inch Kindle DX on Mac, PC, and Linux desktops.

ok, i'll put it on my todo list for this month.

Hang in there y0himba and wife, our thoughts are with you.
17214
That's an interesting observation..
There is no easy perfect fix.. the best i could do is maybe detect when there is a multiple selection and simply NOT draw the black border in this case.
Would that be an acceptable solution or would that simply mean that using multiple selections is not going to work for you?

Developer's Corner / Re: Like gitHub, but better
« Last post by mouser on January 21, 2010, 09:05 AM »
This looks really interesting.. going to watch it in full now.. since i haven't used Git i'd really like to hear more from people who do.

I think having a video demonstrating the idea is wonderful, but maybe you could tell us the main ideas in a paragraph or two as well here, just to lay the ground work while we are watching?

Circle Dock / Re: CircleDock Featured on LifeHacker Today
« Last post by mouser on January 20, 2010, 05:24 PM »
You CircleDock coder/support guys *NEED* to have some dc/circle dock mugs to celebrate this.. i'm just waiting for some images from someone before we send them..

but i have an idea.. why dont i tell you the dimensions needed for a mug image: 1662 x 600
and suggest that one of you collect screenshot images of your desktops showing circledock, cropped to that size.
and we can send each one a custom mug showing your circledock desktop?

(you might also want to discuss if you want some custom text on the mugs -- either same text on all or different text, like names)

but will one of the CircleDock people volunteer to collect the images (remember 1662x600) and we can get the mugs made and sent.

Circle Dock / CircleDock Featured on LifeHacker Today
« Last post by mouser on January 20, 2010, 05:18 PM »
Seeing this brought a real smile to my face.

Congratulations are in order to Eric Wong, for creating CircleDock in the first place, but also to those people here on the forum (sgtevmckay, Markham, and others) that picked up the torch and who have been not just improving the program, but providing support, writing help pages, etc.  Bravo

We first covered Circle Dock when it appeared out of of a Donation Coder contest two years ago. Since then it has undergone quite a few revisions and is more polished than ever.

One of the initial complaints about Circle Dock was the lack of comprehensive help file—even in the beginning the application did a lot but it wasn't always clear on how you could get it to do what you wanted—the new release has a huge help file that launches immediately after the installation so you can dig right into tweaking settings.

Try the chatroom now -- sorry i didn't realize there was an ongoing problem.
Problem was caused by a recent addition of code to bust out of iFrames.

General Software Discussion / Re: Downloading with URLsnooper
« Last post by mouser on January 19, 2010, 10:07 AM »
The program is only for finding URLs, it doesn't actually download anything.
For downloading many formats, i use Net Transport.

If the video is Flash/YouTube format, there are some good FireFox addons for doing that.

Orbit Downloader is another good choice.
