Hmm, turns out the Paint.NET Magic Wand selection works nearly as well.  I just had to read the docs and mess with the tolerance setting.  Some of the effects in Perfect Effects might have been worth using if I still had my cameras.  But for general purpose I really don't need it.

Did any Microsoft OS really hum out of the box? I think the only ones I know of are Win2000 and possibly Win98.

Seemed to me Windows 7 worked pretty well.  I don't remember pacing back and forth waiting for the SP1.  :)

At least for the 32 bit version.  I haven't installed the 64 bit on the metal yet.  Just in a VM.

Granted I don't have experience with paint programs.  But after 3 hours or so and watching a bunch of tutorials I still cannot figure out how the convert the masked area into a layer so I can delete it.  There seem to be no layer tools at all in this software.  It is a shame because it does seem that the Quick Mask tool is good at auto detecting the area at least for easy cases.

I even loaded a photo into paint.NET and added a layer, then reversed the order of the layers hoping when I loaded the photo into PE the layer I wanted would be in the background.  But nope. It put them the way it wanted.  I have the feeling this product is split into mutliple modules you have to buy in order to do the complete job.

Anyway, yet another freebie to uninstall.

That must be an old joke. These days, they would just shoot her, without stepping a single foot on the wet floor.

Not even setting foot inside the house.

Perfect Effects 9.5 100% discount

I am not skilled with image editors and similar software so I don't know how this compares to something like Paint.NET  It seems to be exclusively for applying filters.  I can tell you I just installed it.  It accepted the license key and activated.

The reason I am trying it, even though I do not use this type of software very often, is one of the videos on their site showed background removal by just dragging the mouse to indicate what to remove.  It wasn't necessary to closely trace the boundary or mess with creating layers.  How well it works in practice I may find out later.

One thing that struck me about the online tutorial videos is one photo was used to demontrate applying a filter but the completed effect was always shown with a different photo.  Hmm, perhaps the person doing the demos had a better speaking voice than filter tuning skills?

But I can always uninstall it if it sucks.  :)

i'm late to the party. but i love the original astroboy cartoons. they're maudlin and dripping with pathos in places. but i still love them.

That reminds me.  I totally forgot about Colonel Bleep.  He didn't bother with Atomic Energy.  He had the next generation power source.  Butomic Energy(tm).  :)

Time travel is the only way to get a girl just like the girl that married dear old dad.

Paradoxical ... if I went back and got her before he impregnated her with me, I wouldn't be here to go back and get her.  Not certain I'd want to do so anyway ... she made a great mom, but dunno that I'd have wanted her as my girl  :-\ :-\ :P.

P.S.
Reminds me of an old The Nelson Family segment, when Ricky got a date with Miss America (?!?),

Hmm, if you dated and she got pregnant, you could become your own father.  Carry it one step further and we are stuck in an endless loop of "I am my own grandpaw."  I confess I am not a big country music fan so please don't do it.

Are you saying you're trying to boot your system when both the original and clone are connected?

Yes, that's what I was attempting: go into boot options and select D instead of C (where D is the drive to which the clone was made). D is a spare HDD connected through a USB-connected dual-bay enclosure.

You may be able to get it to work if you change the drive serial number of the clone.  I believe there is software that can do it.  I have no need so I don't remember any specific utility that does.

I don't know about the software you reference.  But on another forum there is a long time poster who has his HD on a quick release.  He uses a Docking Station to host a bare HD identical to his system HD.  He makes a backup image of his system HD using Macrium Reflect and restores it to the drive in the dock.  He stores it in an anti-static bag in a drawer.  If his system HD fails he pulls the system drive, inserts the backup and boots.

He also tells me he can boot that bare drive from the dock or a USB enclosure.

I think he made a new image every two days so only a few new installed softwares would be lost on HD failure or corruption.  But that is personal preference.

He prefered ESata docking stations but others have told me the same scheme will work with USB enclosures or docking stations.

Edit:  Note that this is with MBR drives.  If you can do it with GPT type I do not know.

@wraith808  I haven't gotten into anime yet.  I do like Japanese TV shows and feature films.  I watched one 90 minute anime but I cannot recall the title.  It was something about robots illegally raising a human child I think. (It has to be 8 or 9 years ago. My memory is vague.)  But I watched it to completion.  Perhaps I will mine that vein when live action sources dry up.

A central figure of American cartoons is
Mel Blanc

I remember seeing him as guest on a talk show in the 60s.  If I remember right he said he created more than 60 cartoon character voices.  It was wild watching him having arguments with himself in over a dozen voices.

Reading the Wiki entry just now it says he was also the voice of Mr. Spacely of Spacely Sprockets on The Jetsons.  Mr. Spacely even looks like Mel Blanc.  The artist must have drawn Spacely as a tribute to him(just my surmise.)

They could form The Last LLC and all their products could be branded The Last.

Whatever product they made, it would be The Last product.

Heh heh.  I think I formed my last LLC.  Unless some pleasant surprise provides incentive.  Maybe I should incorporate in Delaware like the big boys?

So I am not a Macrium fanboy just bashing it.

I presume you don't use any Macrosoft programs anymore.

Do they own Paragon?  I never heard of them.
I use what works.  My Vista x64 SP1 machine did not like Macrium.  The machine had a totally unnecessary fake raid controller.  EaseUS ToDo Backup Free didn't mind it.  EaseUS ToDo doesn't like my W8 Laptop.  Macrium does.  Back with Macrium.

I have no lyalty to software that doesn't get it done(unless I am in the unenviable position of being paid to support it.)  :)
