You can download torrents with wget, just need to handle them with a BT client then. :P

eD2K has been slowly dying since they added Kademlia, back in version 0.40 which is quite a while now. Kademlia is alive, well and kicking. :)

eMule? BitTorrent is a dead concept, made with centralized trackers in mind which has been proven a very bad design idea.
If you desperately need BitTorrent for whatever, I'd recommend Deluge, but it crashes for me.

General Software Discussion / Re: SoftMaker Office 2012 BETA testing

For the records:

I want to leave LibO for a while, I want to try if I could live without some of its annoyances (including its slowness). Now I have been on OOo/LibO since OOo m580 or what the first "prerelease" was, so most of my "important" files are in .odt and .ods. Ironically, choosing these open formats leave me quite unable to switch at all, as none of the concurring products are able to handle OpenDocument nearly as perfect. While .odt is beginning to spread, .ods is still too exotic, as it seems. I had a lot of fun trying to open my shoppinglist.ods file in Gnumeric, for example, which natively supports .ods but was overburdened by cell borders, dynamic formatting and multiple pages. So I had dropped the urge for .ods support, but still most applications failed. SoftMaker 2012 even failed to display a simple, multi-page prose .odt file correctly, wtf?

So I'm on WordPerfect Office X5 now. Yay.

You can use it with the mouse if you feel like it; in contrary to Microsoft Office 2007+ which gives you headaches.

After having reviewed the software laying around here, at least I can say that WordPerfect and Corel Draw are still superior applications. I must admit this is not much compared to what they have.

Corel managed to ruin everything they bought so far.

WinZip, btw, is still great for what it is intended to be. It just could need more file formats, .zipx is nice but proprietary. Instead, Corel adds useless backup and similar functionality. They should learn that sometimes less is more.

Corel has a fantastic portfolio. They should use it better.

Still, you heavily rely on single providers like trackers or Magnet URI lists. I, for one, stick with eMule and Kademlia. Never had a dead link because you can't close something down. :)

Good thing there's still P2P without a centralized system like BitTorrent behind it.
