Yes fantastic with quality advice like that it makes you wonder why there isn't a software workflow website with screencasts of getting the most out of software. Practices like what you describe really take familiarity with the software.

Can you not include a snippet of code in your program to check for these dlls and download /register them for the user. That way when not needed the exe can stay small and can still be shared? (i don't know anything about c++)

I never understand where you get the free space if you make a weekly backup of windows + all progs.. How many backups do you keep? Where do you put the trueimage backup?

There's the shortcut wizard

You can try creating a shortcut to taskmgr.exe (task manager) and assigning a hotkey to that such as Win-Tab.

That way you'll get a list of running programs including systray.

Mini-Reviews by Members / Re: Super Flexible File Synchronizer Mini-Review
« Last post by justice on May 29, 2007, 04:51 AM »
And it's flexible. (or should i say Super Flexible) I started using SFFS for big synch jobs only, but since I have removed  both SyncToy and Syncback (free edition) but they've just become obsolete.

I still use Beyond Compare to compare inside text-files for my web development but SFFS is a very polished and powerful program indeed.

Ah thanks lanux128! That's a good tool in the arsenal of a webdeveloper!

OBX is a program to back up preferences but only Opera browser's preferences, much like Grorgy's firefox backup prog. Great post I'll have to read it in detail tomorrow.

Great that sounds good. The thing is I am not sure if you should run both the alpha and the stable on the same computer. A lot of things have changed. Maybe someone else can say for definite.

I've since had the NikSaver application throw an exception when you run the Add program wizard a second time. Now I am running Vista, with the app given admin rights and in XPSP2 mode. So it could be a compatibility mode. The app generated a bugreport to send but the email address doesn't exist. Hmm. also it could be easier to create your own scripts. But in general this seems to be an app to live with, it depends if I can make 20 scripts to qualify for the free registration. But there must be something more reliable.

Hi! As you use your software you make settings modifications, interface changes and add data to your apps. Most of these are saved as preferences or application data. Now there will come a time when a program will stop working or some other reason why I will need to start from a fresh install.

Is there an application that will list compatable installed applications and allows me to backup these preferences / settings and optionally data? Most applications have a knowledgebase article or help page available that tells one how to backup the preferences etc. To do this for 40 or more applicatinos will take me a few days. However I can't find anything faster.

Good idea? Bad Idea? Does it exist? Is there a market?  ;)

Found the following apps:
AppHomepageCostNotes
OBXhttp://fileforum.bet...ail/OBX/1129770850/1FreeOpera only
NikSaverhttp://www.niksaver.com/Shareware; $35 - or freeSupports about 500 programs. Restoring settings not supported in trial.

Install TweakUI for windows XP. There is an option which disables applications from stealing focus. This might solve your whole issue. I'm on vista just now so unfortunately I cannot make a screenshot.

Are you sure that is not a fake scam mail? The from address might be spoofed so you cannot always trust that. I would change my password for gmail if I was you just to make sure.

However, I have heard of reports that Google doesn't like you use Gdrive if it is overused. See point number 3.

Farr won't start if it is already active. Instead it will try and activate the farr window. So all the problems you are having is becaues you have a hidden farr running.

Now there can be several reasons why this is the case:
* more than one user is logged on and more than one is running farr.
* I have had some problems before when I merged the startup of all users with the current user startup. Have you fiddled with startup disble/enable software?

Also diagnose the problem: reboot your computer, making sure farr does not start up immediate, is farr running in the task manager? 0 or more?
start farr. How many instances are running now? 1 or more?
restore farr to boot with your pc if you had set this up before these tests. now restart your pc again: how many instances of farr are running? 1 or more?
start farr. How many instances are running now? 1 or more?

This will diagnose if there is a configuration problem on your pc or if it is a farr bug.

In the meantime I have tried Google Webaccelerator but although it tells you what proxy info to put in for it to work under Opera, it doesn't accelerate -- only in Firefox and IE.

Thanks for the suggestion I will try treewalk.

Thanks Laughing Man! Sorry to see you're having problems. The code of SwitchToTask is just as folllows:
#NoEnv
SendMode Input
SetTitleMatchMode RegEx
WinActivate, i)%1%
It matches on the window title (case insensitive -partial matches allowed). I don't see why it can't work, maybe some AHK expert can solve the issue?

There's a discussion on experiences with MusicIP too maybe we can get to the bottom of your performance problem Curt.

I was thinking I could save a lot of bandwidth and speed up browsing at the same time if I set up a local disk cache proxy. In this day an age of broadband for many people, will this still speed up things? Does it work a lot better than the modern browser's own cache? Or is it a waste of resources and disk space?

I'm using FreeProxy at the moment which does disk caching but I would like to see some statistics to see how much bandwidth is saved and how many requests %-wise are cached.

CPU usage doesn't really go above 10% but it will take several hours to get through 25GB of files, although you can play probably 80-90% after a minute or so.

General Software Discussion / Re: Magnetic by Incredimail - Dare I try it?
« Last post by justice on May 26, 2007, 05:45 PM »
sounds like you're getting screensaver and wallpaper ads based on the wallpapers and screensaver content you prefer. Well that's the worst case scenario, I'm sure there wouldn't be any users left then.
1699
Are you running Vista? It can preload programs as it analyses your daily usage. Maybe it detected you use farr2 and preloads it which causes problems for farr1. If you're not using Vista then this is not the case.

Living Room / Re: Why don't you pay for software?

But applying that rationale to not buying software is like saying you're not voting because you don't agree with the political system?
