^ I would have thought it's easy enough to figure out if a merchant is trustworthy or not (and if it's not easy, then I dont trust them). I think if you're not going to trust other sources (outside Europe), you're going to need to buy from someone in the UK -- you may not get the best possible offer, but you have more protection if something goes wrong.

Me (in .de land), I think I'd prefer to buy from one of those Chinese sites mentioned than from e.g. an unknown supplier in a different European country.

Format it like that.  I believe there is an empty template around here somewhere, but am not sure offhand where it is.

when you edit or create/preview a new post, there's a drop-down list in with the formatting icons: "Add preset text" --
there's a "Nany Submission" option there.

General Software Discussion / Re: Data Disk recovery software
« Last post by tomos on October 11, 2016, 05:14 AM »
If the disk is not working well though, what you want is to be able to copy the contents as quickly as possible.
I'm not sure that these recovery programmes are a good idea if the disk is in poor condition:

would creating a sector by sector image of the whole drive be a good idea first ?
Then you can mess around all you like with different recovery programmes, if the HD dies, you have a copy.

Disclaimer: I have not made a sector by sector image of a drive. I think it should have everything on it though (see if other people confirm that).

Recuva is good in my experience for image/video files:
haven't tried it with other file formats.

if I buy from geekbuying the International Version that is not ES (I assume Spain) stock, will I pay customs to have it shipped to UK?

FWIW, re the original linked site (alibaba):
I did notice in the comments people requesting that the value be listed as nominal on the package. And they were getting individual responses from suppliers.
None of them on that site ship to Germany for some reason,** but do ship to other EU countries, and UK AFAIK.

Buying EU stock though would have it's advantages.

** I inquired and got a response in poor English that it was (something) to do with customs.

+ Added an "Info box" that will display an entire row's data with copy to
clipboard buttons for each data field, too.  Access it via the F1 hotkey
      or the Edit menu.

I can use that too :-)
Thanks skwire !

This is tonight on Bits, and likely will be extended.  (Or you can ask a special request.)

... This is mildly techie, and strong on things like cloud and remote, and has good support, and does not upgrade for $ frequently. ...

The biggest limitation is that when you here the word "sync" you wonder if it can do standard file-by-file backup in a friendly manner. My sense so far is yes.

I do wonder if it might have a feature I am always wondering about .. placing the soft-coded drive number in at the time of backup.

1) Yes, extended: ~16 hours to go as of this post

2) agree with your summary: great support (email, forum that I used once years ago, so not sure of current status); often updated, paid upgrades *very* seldom. Techie yeah, only problem could be too many options, especially if you're not sure of them.

3) Yes, 'Sync_' name is misleading. This is a very sophisticated backup programme with loads of options, including file monitoring & partial file update.

4) dont know if it can easily change drive letter on backup -- would be nice

WSUSoffline

that means that all the Windows 7 machines I personally know - in fairness not a large number (only a handful), yet they *all* have had this problem.

Looks great wnitzan,
I suspect it's not for me because I dont understand what it would be used for -- is it aimed at musicians?
Maybe you could give a couple of use case scenarios? (I did look at the website and manual intro and video but was none the wiser).

I was wondering about the quotes :-[
Thanks skwire -- it opens perfectly in Libre Office

I was using Softmaker's Planmaker -- I will report it to them when I get a chance (I'm otherwise very happy with their office software)

Seem to be going back to a lot of your apps this week skwire (also using Splat again)

Been using csv export a little:
Wondering if it possible to change the separator in the csv file -- it appears to be using comma: the resolution column gets exported to two columns (so the columns are out of sync with the headers.

Screenshot - 2016-10-05 , 13_31_13.jpg

in screenshot the Resolution column from the highlighted row will export as:

ResolutionPath
"600 600 pixels/inch"

OK I figured out that the kate version is just more 4G compatible and I don't think I need that.

Sounds good.

Re my post, I could have been more tactful -- I know from experience that criticism is hard to take. Sticking in 'lol's and saying you have a 'nerve' makes it even more difficult for you to take anything on board -- sorry about that. Sent you a PM re the points made.

Seems the more simple program.
I'd say GridMove is a not very simple application, so it might take some more time to get used to, and get the configuration just right.
I am trapped in configuring. Just after window+G hotkey.
I don't understand the instructions or help.

the way I use it is:

Win+G
=> you should see a grid with numbers overlaid on the screen
=> pressing a number will move the active window to that position
If you dont want the layout shown. pressing the 'N' key will move onto the next layout, press again for the next, and so on

If you want a layout that is not included, have a look at the gridmove section in the forum, you can add new layouts, or make your own.

Disclaimer, I've never used gridmove with multiple monitors

EDIT// this on Win.7 (see Ath's post below)

oh don't be so harsh

kalos, you consistently ask question after question here, giving the minimum amount of information; doing little or no research - apart from where, like in this thread, you get pressured into it. Now you've done a little research, and come back with this when you're told you now need to sort this out yourself.

I'm actually smiling now thinking of your nerve. Maybe you haven't noticed all this. Maybe you have, but this is just the way you 'work'. You'll get a certain amount of answers working like that, but not much respect. Maybe you dont need respect. And dont care. That's all fine.

But just thought I'd point it out (again?). In case you havent noticed.

Harsh! Lol, you've been treated with kid gloves here :)

So I think i need software to divide the 52" monitor in four independant displays and make a lot of operations with this option.

can you describe in more detail what you mean by "a lot of operations" ?

And how independent do you want the displays to be ?

Nope... *Sigh* ...I really should have saved it when I first saw it. I'm almost positive it was on the board here somewhere several years ago.

You'll find it when you are looking for something else.  That's usually how it goes.  :)

I can well imagine it though having been someone's signature, in which case it could be gone from here . . .

In Options, timestamp for titlebar is listed as:
yyyy-MM-dd hh:mm tt

Change the hh to HH if you want 24-hour format.  The "tt" should set AM/PM.

sorted thanks, I could have figured that out, couldnt I :-[ but in fairness, I was thrown a bit by the lack of AM/PM --
there was no sign of AM/PM in AnuVu with the above settings (well, Log entry timestamp also had seconds, otherwise same).
Log entry example:
