General Software Discussion / Get to the Point!?
« Last post by cmpm on April 02, 2008, 08:52 AM »
The topic is because I don't know what else to call it.
But it seems useful.
Highlight text and save as a link with the text or whatever highlighted.
Then you have a link with highlighted areas to send or post to get to the point.
Instead of having to read large blogs or sites.
It has a Firefox addon also.

http://www.awesomehighlighter.com/

It was on freedownloadaday today.
1677
This is a good player also.

http://filehippo.com...edia_player_classic/

I like K-Lite because it's a minimal install and downloads on demand.
I haven't tried CCCP, so I don't know about it.

Stay with one pack, either way.
Or there could be conflicts.
1678
It's my undersdtanding and from what I've seen of this K-Lite mega or full. It doesn't download every codec there is. It's more of an on demand type deal. You'll get the basics and it senses when you need another codec.

What player do you use?
1679
Here is what I use on all computers.
Works on new or old ones.
Uninstall any codec packs first then do this one.

Hey, nice, and not too bad-$50.
If you have a lot of stuff I'm sure it's worth it.

Everest does German.

It takes some tweaking to let it do it's online deal.
But it's not that hard.

And I do have WordZilla's thesaurus on my desktop for quick reference.
That comes in very handy.
Plus it can be made into a button for google's toolbar

I voted for dictionary.com.

But I also have this little combo deal with online options.

Dropped WordWeb, too annoying.

Where the program is downloaded from makes a difference in security sometimes.
There are some sites I don't trust, though they have programs I do trust.

Thanks for info Dormouse.

File dropper works well too.
Got it bookmarked.

I never transfer sensitive data that openly anyway.
So privacy is not a problem.

Though how long the file sets there is a concern when there is limits set.

hmmm, interesting

It's fast and easy to use.
Bookmarked it for future use too.
We'll see if it is dependable over time I guess.

General Software Discussion / Re: Small Apps
« Last post by cmpm on March 23, 2008, 12:58 PM »
Here's some I found on one of those surfing days.
They are not as small of a download but not large either.

http://www.creativedocs.net/

http://www.fiastarta...PrtScr/Download.html

http://www.nicekit.c...st-free-snapshot.htm

That first screencapture was kindof cool so I kept it.

The other one would be good to send to someone who needs a simple one and don't know anything about installing programs.
No install required, just download to desktop and it's ready to go.

I still think our mouser's screencapture beats all I've seen but these were unique imo.

Creative docs is a bit different but the same sortof.
And unique too.

I like it, but I don't see how to delete what you have uploaded.

Is it automatic after a period of time or there forever.
I didn't register, but I tested it and it works great.

Yeah, I know, Curt.
I was responding to the first post and the request.

LogMeIn will do what the request is but you have to have control over both computers.

Synergy can do it also.

But to send a link or website that auto opens without control isn't possible I think.

« Last post by cmpm on March 22, 2008, 11:50 AM »
There isn't a way to send a link that auto opens on another computer.
If there was, it would be used to infect computers.

Someone at the other computer has to open the link, or not.

If you find a way to do it, please let me know so I can also know how to block such a program as intrusive as that.

Takes a while to download I guess.
All I got was 'no video' for about 3 minutes and got tired of waiting.

The link is from here.

Bandwidth would be the issue.
For a high traffic site like this it is not cheap.

There is no problem duplicating the site.
But there would be to duplicate it's functionality.

I think the key to PhotoSynth is your graphics card.
It says that an onboard graohics card will not perform.
And you need the latest ...

http://labs.live.com...nstaller/sysreq.aspx

I played with it from this link in the PhotoSynth main page.

Seems vista may have their reasons for all that.

Anyway here's the same file saved as rtf from MSword.
FastView will read it.

edit-gotta use that darn spellchecker more, or quit typing fast.....

Here's fastview with a readme file which is .rtf.

And Phil, ATF doesn't run on Vista?

That's rich text files-.rtf, you knew that.
Yeah fastview should read those, some of these other programs also.

Anyway another good cleaner is ATF-Cleaner.
Spell it like that and it will come up on google.
