I'm with f0dder on this one, 8 out of 10 of those are fairly forced and seem more like grasping at straws. The other two are kinda humorous.

General Software Discussion / Linux finance management program (ALA Quicken?)
« Last post by Josh on February 09, 2009, 06:41 AM »
OK Folks, here is what the deal is.

I recently purchased a laptop for my wife for her college class and as such, the main PC in my home is up for grabs. As such, I am going to give ubuntu a full try, or maybe opensuse, and see how things go.

The primary piece of software I REQUIRE (No, this isn't a want, it's a need) is a financial management application similar to quicken. One thing I would like to experiment with is using quicken in Wine and see how that works. Barring that, can anyone recommend, from first hand experience, a good linux based finance management program which can download information directly from various banks and credit agencies? This is a must. My entire financial life is on my PC and as such, quicken use or a similar app, is a requirement for any OS.

Any thoughts?

P.S. Sorry for resurrecting a thread.

I'm not complaining. Some of my best postings can be found here... ;D

Perhaps the most annoying bug, which should be easily fixed and has existed since .94, is the fact that the windows version will not remember the last used folder so you have to constantly browse to the last used folder everytime you choose file - open

    • Does BartelsMedia hold a patent on the implementation of any of the features in which there is a claim of copying?
    • Does BartelsMedia mean to suggest that nagar reverse engineered his product in order to discover proprietary secrets to enable him to duplicate the features?
    • Does BartelsMedia mean to claim that nagar stole the source code to his product and used it in his?
    -app103

I re-iterate these comments from app103. If none of the above are true, then I think this entire conversation about "stealing" is moot in point. Yes, it does suck if in fact the features in question were copied, but if no patent is held, then the ideas are open for use by others and no wrong doing is being done.

Let us remember that if it were not due to copying of features, we would not have some great products like we do today. Opera was the first to implement tabs in a way that made it easy to use for the common user, but others have taken the idea and ran with it and now we have the great customizability of thousands of solutions which utilize tabs as a means of navigation and organization.

Case and point, unless a patent is held, then no wrong is really being done legally. While there may be a moral issue, again, it's a cut throat world and those who can, will, and those who can't, will be run over. [/list]

I highly recommend the Amazon Kindle. That is by far the best investment I have made for my wife I can think of, second to her recent college journey. It is very easy to use, the books are very reasonably priced and with a 4GB SD Card, you can store an infinite amount of books (For all intents and purposes). It has very quick delivery to the kindle via the free whispernet which uses CDMA, GSM and 1XEV networks to transfer data wirelessly and for free.

Highly recommended. I give it 5 cody drumsticks out of a possible 5

I'm done. I'm finished. I can't take the stupidity anymore, so I'm leaving and I'm taking my website with me. As of Tuesday, Feb 10, 2009, T-Shirt Hell will be no more.

No, I'm not selling out to some douchebag corporate entity. No, we're not being sued by any of the over 40 companies that have sent us cease and desists over the years. No, I'm not going to jail (yet) and no, it's not because of the economy. Although, the recent dip in sales certainly does make the idea easier to accept, even though we still sell over 3000 shirts a week.

I started this company in June of 2001, nearly 8 years ago, with the intention of producing the best satirical, the most controversial, the funniest t-shirts on the internet. Generally speaking, I feel I've accomplished that and am satisfied with what we've put out. I made a shitload of dough along the way. I've done cocaine off the better body parts of supermodels. I've even raped and killed a mountain panda in the hills of Shaanxi. But these perks are besides the point.

Life is so much simpler without a phone interrupting everything.  :-*

From what I remember, highlight all bookmarks, right click, choose properties. It will then let you edit the properties you can edit for multiple bookmarks in one pass. I use this for filters that I apply to fileforum listings.

Mouser, If all that is going to happen is the two authors bicker back and forth then I feel that a split-off will do more harm than good. One of the authors has already "backed out" only to come back and try and reprove his/her point. I feel this thread is best locked until another discussion about DA or PE comes up.

I also have no issue with the ribbon. I find it easier to find what I need rather than digging through submenu after submenu to find something. It is also more convenient as most of what I need is right on the initial tab of the ribbon.

May I ask what exactly is wrong with the license model for SmF? I have seen several sites running this without issues and no one has complained about the license model. This is the first I've heard about negativities towards the SmF model. What forum software do you suggest?

Other than that, the only thing I can think of for DC is a better review system in which we can break down the review into various collapsable sections of the main page. This way, we can view certain parts of the review without having to continuously scroll.

That, and perhaps a software rating system of our own. That way we can post programs and rate it based on our thoughts.

It still needs lots of polish here and there (lacks consistence between different parts of the system), but it's shaping to be a really great OS. And FARR works! :)
As long as Microsoft doesn't go insane with pricing, I strongly suspect that me and my FOSS cronies will be kissing The Year of the Linux Desktop good-bye one more time!  ;) ;D

shhhh, Zaine might murder you for such a statement.

But seriously, from what I've seen and played around with, Win7 is proving to be a great OS and one I am very much looking forward to acquiring. We shall see how it plays out from here.
