OTOH, I don't know of any further hidden secrets besides how getting comfortable with the hotkeys makes working with Gimp faster

Indeed!

I forgot to thank lanux128 for pointing me at SFV Ninja.

Thanks lanux128 :)

On the issue of additional hashing algorithms, I think OpenSSL supports a variety of hashes and is theoretically buildable on Windows -- licensing info from Wikipedia follows:

OpenSSL is "dual licensed" under the OpenSSL License and the SSLeay License.  OpenSSL License is Apache License 1.0 and SSLeay License is 4-clause BSD License. The common usage of the term dual-license is that the user may pick which license they wish to use. However, OpenSSL documentation uses the term dual-license to mean that both licenses apply.

As the OpenSSL License is Apache License 1.0, but not Apache License 2.0, it requires the phrase This product includes software developed by the OpenSSL Project for use in the OpenSSL Toolkit. (http://www.openssl.org/) to appear in advertising material and any redistributions (Sections 3 and 6 of the OpenSSL License).

Also, licensing info from the OpenSSL site:

FARR Plugins and Aliases / Re: FARR plugin: FarrWebMetaSearch 1.6.0
« Last post by ewemoa on November 03, 2011, 08:25 PM »
I have come across a site that appears to return a JSON array as a result (with mime type plain/text).  Is this format of data something FarrWebMetaSearch can handle?

Under GIMP (2.6.1) I noticed that the pointer cursor would sometimes obscure the image too much causing difficulty while using the free select tool.  After some not-too-successful searching, I learned that there's a preference that seems to help:

gimp-cursor-obscurement-work-around-for-free-select-tool.png

Perhaps there are better work-arounds.  If anyone knows of any, I'd be interested in hearing about them -- apart from changing the system's pointer cursor, that is :)

isn't everyone using SC via hotkey on keyboard? it's hard to imagine any other real way to use it.

I admit to also using it via the tray area icon -- as I didn't find a default key sequence for "Restore main window".

Seems to work just fine with 2.3 beta (build 279).

Thanks a lot for your help :)

Aha.  I appear to be using 2.2f -- will try with 2.3 beta (build 279).  Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for your response!

I examined a tar file I downloaded via the folder archive feature of HFS and compared it to one I made via 7-zip.

In the former I noticed that the file name portion (as described here) appears to use backslashes for directory separators, while in the latter, forward slashes appear to be used.

From my cursory research, my impression is that the tar file format expects forward slashes to be used for directory separators.  Perhaps someone with more definitive knowledge can chime in regarding this.

P.S. Sorry to hear you don't have more time -- a Python-based version sounds nice to me :)

Haven't tried the following yet...wonder if it might be relevant:

More than 3 years later ... :)

Echoing the general sentiment here -- finding HFS to be quite nice

Particularly appreciate that it works under WINE -- nice to have quick file-sharing under *nix without much hassle.  Also nice is the file-uploading feature.

Wondering whether others have encountered difficulties with the folder archive feature -- the resulting tar files seem to cause difficulty for tar under *nix (at least in some Debian-derivatives).  (I think this can be worked around via 7-Zip / WINE.)

Any thoughts?

Thanks for the update!  Double-clicking and right-clicking both give expected results here now :)

I'd like to be able to copy a checksum to the clipboard...but I haven't figured out how.  Is there already a way?

I noticed that double-clicking on a row seems to result in a value getting displayed in the cell corresponding to the checksum column.  I'm guessing that what I'm seeing is a CRC32 value -- even when in MD5 or SHA-1 mode.  Is this expected behavior?

Here is a video which shows ScanTailor's new ability to dewarp scanned text lines, which at the moment is still done manually. This is a very important feature when scanning books, since the text lines towards the spine of the book tend to get bent.

This feature is in the new test version which can be downloaded here.
Scan Tailor is quite a find.  Thanks for mentioning it :)

Saw it here too and there appears to be a "development" portable version.

Came across this fairly clear video tutorial by the developer.

Find me a free, stand-alone commandline executable that will spit out an SHA-256 checksum and, sure, I'll add it.

How does sha256deep.exe from md5deep look?

Awesome tool, Sir Skwire :)

Any chance of SHA-256 support?  I came across:

  http://www.imagemagick.org/download/binaries/digest.rdf

and failed to find other checksums...

Oh...and is there some hidden feature in the Help -> Contents dialog?

P.S. No official checksums for SFVNinja itself?

FWIW, some screenshots:

Start off by generating a tags file...

Specify tags file location...

Choose an identifier and bring up candidates via Alt+Space...

Decide on destination and end up at...

FWIW, I am using a portableapps.com version of Notepad++...strange.

Perhaps I should test generating tags files with other bits of source code.

General Software Discussion / Re: Redo Backup and Recovery

Have restored a number of times for various reasons and it appears to work well here.  Once booted into Redo, the actual restore takes a little over 3 minutes (though shutting down takes more than a few seconds).  The partition being restored is about 12GB and it is about half full -- though the actual restore image files total to a little under 3GB.

I upgraded to Notepad++ 5.9.5 (unicode version) and did some brief testing.  Haven't noticed anything specific yet.  Using XP SP3 here too.  Any details related to "very unstable"?

Started using OpenCTags (1.2.2) with Notepad++ (5.9.3) to navigate to definitions.  After generating an appropriate tags file, one can use "Open Tag" (Plugins -> OpenCTags) to bring up a pop-up window that displays candidate destinations.

Any one using something similar for Notepad++?
