I've had image stuff in and out of Photoshop Illustrator and InDesign (CH+S doesn't 'see' text copied from Illustrator btw) as well as a bunch of other graphics stuff. Haven't bumped into a problem yet. If there is an issue, you can bet it'll occur in the middle of some crucial work and not while I'm playing around :o As long as it works with Photoshop I'm happy as that alone accounts for about 70% of my need for clips

This is very nice to have and, in my view, an invaluable addition to CH+S

@mouser, this vector/bitmap (and other formats) is what I mentioned recently and it seems as if you are on the case.
I didn't try vectors in Illustrator as I pretty much knew what to expect.

My Optimus Maximus keyboard prize arrived two minutes ago; I haven't had a chance to unwrap it yet. I'm just posting to tell how excited I am - especially because I have been so worried about what the tax guys would say. The rather unexpected but thrilling good news is, they didn't charge me a dime!!

Have fun!

Anyone want to beta test?
-mouser

Sure, make us do all the work!
I suppose you could force me, kicking and screaming all the way  ;D

Can't wait to get at it.

Some of us have already been there.

I've taken some time (and a work project that could nicely use it :tellme:)

Why work for money when you can work for nothing?  :D

Looking forward to delving into 3.0

One of my printers is a Canon all-in-one and I really like it.
I stuck to Canon ink for a few years and then decided to try cheap stuff.
Everything went well and I congratulated myself for being astute… until cheap-ink change #4 clogged the print head.

I can't buy this model now and, like almost everything else on the market today, the newer model has an increased shoddyness factor.

That experience will probably persuade me to stick with brand-name ink in future.

It's possible to take the view that printers are themselves so cheap that it's more economical to run with off-brand ink and dump any printer that's harmed by it. The trouble is, it really goes against the grain for me to see another lump of nasty hardware going into landfill. I just can't bring myself to do it.

I would slide forwards - but my trousers would stay in the same place

Thank goodness you didn't go in reverse!

We've seen a complaint and a rebuttal, not for the first time.

Surely that is enough.

My vote is to avoid responding further in this topic before it beomes something with which the community at DC becomes uncomfortable.
Spats are not our way.

For myself, I choose to ignore this topic from now on.

Not I…  but in the summer I'm quite pleased with my hammock support.

Inside your firefox profile folder, backup these files:

  • key3.db
  • signons.sqlite
  • signons3.txt
  • signons2.txt (this may or may not exist)
  • signons.txt (this may or may not exist)

That's useful, thanks. I've not bothered to work that out for myself and it just might come in handy!

Well, here it's like watching treacle pour over molasses but it certainly makes one appreciate 'normal service'.

I'm sure it'll be fixed one way or another.
Keep smiling!

Congratulations! Did you have a panel of beta testers?

But I can't type with my eyes crossed...

In that case, you already know why I made the request  ;D

The card is now working and the machine is running fine.

Yet another driver clean-out/re-install, plus some software repairs, and it looks okay. A whole lot of commotion created mainly by my uncertainty about whether using this particular card had any hardware ramifications.

Thanks for your help! now, if you all will keep the relevant parts of your anatomies crossed…

Reminds me of a card I bought once.
Everything was green, sent it back and ordered a better one.

With mine I'm beginning to see red and feel blue.  :D

Thanks for the further thoughts!

The problem card's in an Antec case with a 430W PSU. There are 2 HDDs and a CD-ROM and that's about it for power draw. That ought to be enough ought it not?

Meanwhile, I've ordered an el-cheapo 256Mb DDR2 replacement card and my next step, when that arrives, will be to try that in the machine and see what transpires.

I notice the software that comes with the card to adjust its clock speed etc. doesn't affect anything, so I'm beginning to wonder if this individual ZOTAC card is flaky. Seems unlikely but stranger things have happened to me.

@cmpm; good idea about the drivers, thanks for the link. As it happens, I'd updated to 266.58 almost immediately after installing the card.

Thanks!

@nudone; good thought, there's no extra power connection on this card
@fodder; I'll check the PSU

Dear Aunt Agony,

Can someone be kind enough to give me a piece of information about hardware?

My wife's machine runs XP SP3.

The computer has an ASUS P5LD2 motherboard (ASUS P5LD2) with 2 Gig DDR2 memory. This board uses PCI Express X16 for video, and its video card died. The dead card was an Asus GeForce 7300 GS with 256 Meg DDR2 SDRAM. The machine died and then came up with vertical lines on the boot screen, a munged Windows start screen, and then failed… every time.

My extremely limited hardware know-how (more properly don't-know-how) does run to replacing a video card but I live in the middle of nowhere, so there's not much choice locally. Just about any video will do for this machine, however.

All I could get on short notice is a ZOTAC(?!?) GeForce GT 430. This has PCI Express 2.0 support and 1 Gig DDR3 SDRAM. So, that's what I bought.
I removed the old drivers, powered off and inserted the new card: machine came up perfectly well.
Installed the new drivers, rebooted: machine came up perfectly well.
Updated the drivers to the latest version, rebooted: machine came up perfectly well.

The trouble is that, once I start to access some software pffft, down it goes. With the new card installed the machine runs okay in safe mode with network support and, to my surprise, at 1600x1200.

So, before I start digging, can someone tell me if there is something inherently problematic, from a hardware point of view, about replacing this 256 Mb DDR2 card with a 1 Gb DDR3 card that has PCIE 2 and DX 11 support? Or, is it going to be driver conflicts etc… ?

Yours truly,

Lost, in Limbo

Ok, I finally got a hold of some testing environments (XP, Server 2003, Win7 on 125%, all on VMWare) and lo and behold: I can reproduce the same 'bleed through' issues you have! :'(

So I re-researched the transparency style-settings of the window, and expect to have it fixed (works OK for me now on all my available environments).

Bingo! Well done! Thanks for the perseverance.  Not just off to the races but first past the post.

I think I kind of monkeyed up what I wanted to say in the original post...

It wasn't perfect but probably good enough  ;)

Why limit that rule to charities only?

I've been trying to introduce it for governments, believe me!
The plan is a little rough around the edges as yet; we're having a trial run in Libya right now.

i'm now sitting here and typing. *sigh*

And thank you for the effort!
It's good to learn about items like this, to keep in a back pocket in case of need.

That mouser, what a slave driver!  ;D
