General Software Discussion / Re: Harvest the Web with OutWit (Firefox)
« Last post by cmpm on June 13, 2008, 07:07 PM »
Sounds like one can cut through a lot of wasted hits in a search on the net.

Good comments so far at Firefox-only 6 but 6 for 6 is actually good for these things, unless there are fake, but I don't think that's the case.

Going to give it a work out soon.

Google searches find too much unless you use quatation marks, and then you are not likely to get much at all, perhaps this will be more to the point.

General Software Discussion / Re: Desktop Sidebar
« Last post by cmpm on June 09, 2008, 12:15 AM »
Google desktop search has a sidebar function but it was power hungry, and I decided to drop it.

They both look similar, you could add whatever google had to your side bar. And even detach them to make the individual items float.

I don't have the power to compare them, but as I recall it didn't do what I wanted sometimes.
1604
Mainly no google toolbar compatibility yet, is the hold up for me.
1605
Most are just links though some are actively working.

Firefox is the highest mem and resource eater I have.
Mostly because of the addons I think.
I tried FF RC2 and it is much better.
But the addons need to catch up mainly.
I have it on another computer.
1606
Multitasking is what slows me down.
But I have all this going-which isn't much compared to some....

1607
I have a few p3's and they do fine except for video stuff.
They'll play youtubes and the like but live stuff isn't so great.
Like my web cam or live tv.
They do better with my web cam if I shut some things down.
I just use it for Skype.
The sound, mic and headset work fine.

Though I know a new one would be faster if I streamlined it like these.
They are ok for now.

zridling,

Do you mean the net or applications in general?

A lot of it is more and more stuff is being added to apps and browsers I think.

Yeah, ha! I still have an old win mill computer.
I think of it as a reliable backup really.
For the net and some apps. It will run screenshotcapture!!!
And Firefox as well as many programs I use now.
But it won't take most of these high powered apps.

So it takes more thinking instead of the computer doing it.

You know, if we think back it was pictures that was the big draw to computers for the home user.

I'll try it sometime this weekend.

This may do what is stated in the title of this thread.
But I don't know about it keeping docs or anything open while saved.
All it says is the applications.

Yeah, I thought it might be able to save the workspace, but it doesn't. Nevermind.

Isit possible to save open apps sessions? (New)
By: kursad (vehakkiSourceForge.net Donor) - 2008-06-02 13:17
I was wondering if it is possible to save open apps as a session so that they could be restored later. But I would like apps to start with last opened documents as well.

thanks

Not by VirtuaWin - The relaunching of an application is dependent on far too many things (User, Environment, command-line, com & dcom commands etc etc). I suggest you use Windows Hibernate feature which is the only thing I know that can do something like this.

Has anyone checked this software out?

http://virtuawin.sourceforge.net/

I'd like to know if anyone uses it and how to use it.
As well as how it performs.

I know kartal has and has at least one question.

Yeah that's why I put it on the table.
It never did what I wanted it to do.
So someone smarter then me may want to check it out.
Maybe it does the job well, but I couldn't figure out how.

It worked as far as operational and easily loaded up.
But it's functions elude me.

I've used this-

http://virtuawin.sourceforge.net/

Seems to work ok, but windows desktops is easier for me.
Someone else may want to look into this program.

------

Trick is and most useful would be to auto save the desktop workspace in case of power failure. I doubt if that's possible.

I use Tab Wheel Scroll.
It only works with the mouse in the tab area.
Otherwise it's disabled as I had it, and still have it disabled.

It works much like TaskSwitchXP Pro, except it works with web pages that are up.

So I kind of like it if I have a lot of tabs up, just to scroll through them and see what I'm doing. :)

HaHa, too funny....

It can't be proven or disproved.
And you can't prove pain or not.

Hey, if I eat icecream too fast I get a headache.
Commonly called brain-freeze I believe.

Are there warnings on the carton?
hmmmmm..........

This works pretty good.
It will index all your files once and the search is from there.
If you add more files then you have to index your files again.
It's very fast though.
I believe this is how this program works.
So indexing is not always on.
