thanks camerb
sounds good.

I tend to use Cinta Notes as a scratch pad which it isn't really designed to be. This sounds perfect for the job
will try it (probably be during the week at this stage)

Yes, an entertaining read
in spite of not having much of a clue what goes on in engines etc, I love reading / watching this kind of thing.

Also liked the way you bought the manual *after* having worked on it for most of a year :-)

This design is really looking good.
agreed,
thanks oblivion

Now: while taking the point about multiple colours on board, would it be worth maybe considering a couple more versions of the text colour -- or shall I just leave it that if someone wants the mug design with different coloured text they can ask me and I shall reproduce it to order?

I'm not getting a mug anyways, but if I was, would suggest a dark grey rather than a black -- it's not so harsh (but have no idea: would it affect the sharpness of the print? I dont think it should be a problem myself, but not sure)

Copy from a CD?
That'll have to be ripped, (well there are other ways, but I'll stick with this one).
I dont know what still works on XP, CDBurnerXP I guess, yes, they have a 32bit version:
https://www.cdburnerxp.se/en/download

Audio usually gets ripped to mp3 file format, quality is slightly less, but shouldnt be a problem.

Do you know some way to drag a file from winexplorer and drop it to some spreadsheet program or text editor so the file name be pasted? msexcel does not allow to do such drag&drop

I used my file manager (Dopus) to copy the filenames. Other file-managers can do this too, e.g. XYplorer.

Note: for me it was also worth my time doing it in spreadsheet, because I needed to keep a record of old vs. new names.

Yeah, things do need to be sorted in spreadsheet first: you need to have the correct names in the correct columns -
i.e.
A | B
C | D
where B & D are new names for A & C.
I sorted then by actual names in spreadsheet, then copied the new names (G00, etc. in example above) for pasting into renamer. I did not have to do any messing around in Renamer then. Might not be suitable for your needs, but was worth it for me.

So yeah, you need to do that work in advance.
Otherwise in Renamer, you can paste into or edit individual lines -- but I didnt use that capability myself.

Not exactly what you're looking for I think, but
I got the AHK experts here working on Win+Q a few years ago -- this was my favourite version, it opens the Window's Shutdown dialogue:

[..] if you want to update to AHK_L the hotkey can become this:
Code: Autohotkey [Select]
  1. #q::ComObjCreate("Shell.Application").ShutdownWindows()
-
there are other variations in that thread (one that just killed everything without asking which was too much for me).

I also have Ctrl+Q to close active window (but not on this machine so cant check the script).

^ okay,
let me see:
first I need the filenames, old and new correctly synced in spreadsheet

Screenshot - 2016-12-22 , 15_37_35.jpg

the second column are the current names,
I'm going to revert back to the previous naming system here.
Following does require having just the relevant files in a folder.

open Renamer,
select relevant folder - a doubled list shows in the main pane:
renaming is in the right column, so select that list

Screenshot - 2016-12-22 , 15_26_49.jpg

(I've reduced the tree pane on the left for the screenshot)

Copy relevant cells from your spreadsheet, and paste in Renamer (might be best to paste in text editor first and then copy again ensuring you have exactly the correct number of lines):

Screenshot - 2016-12-22 , 15_28_02.jpg

I think it was then:
menu: File > Apply changes to folder

Hope that works for you -- I did have to mess around a bit, but was doing it 'cold' :D

I can't see in Oscar“s Renamer how to rearrange files on the left panel to match the text lines from the right panel.

I did it in a spreadsheet first...

Thanks, I'll see if Oscar's Renamer works for me.
The problem is that new names and current ones are quite different and unrelated that's why I asked for a way to drag the file onto the list, since there is a column with descriptions so I can visually tell which file corresponds to the new name

I'll add a +1 to your request, would be very helpful to be able to do something like that

I'd really love to hear some more reports that the beta works well before I release it officially..

just installed and using in my usual very basic manner -- does seem much more responsive; everything working fine so far
Windows 7 x64

For the record:
I have WinAnti-Ransom [WAR] installed. It blocks every install: normally I click the Allow button, run the exe again, and it works fine.
CHS extracts to a different temp folder every times it's run, so keeps getting blocked by WAR (as the previous 'Allow' was for a different path).  I had to disable it in order to install.

Hi all,
How could I do the following?
I have a folder with files and a text file with a list of names (actually it's a spreadsheet with two columns)
What I'd want to do is to drag and drop each file to a listbox so it gets renamed

I had to rename a bunch of files using a text list just this week.
Used Oscar's Renamer after a 2006 (!) recommendation here on dc.
it isnt in development, but is still being sold
I used the trial -- it worked on Windows 7 x64
it was very fussy: wouldn't work for a while, I think possibly because of an extra carriage return at the bottom of the list of new names. But it did work in the end.

Also found a couple of sites showing how to do it using spreadsheet (and?). Can check my desktop history later and post link/s.

Bit more pixelated than I'd like

I think it's a great result -- you might get better image quality if you didnt use digital zoom, but enlarged with a good image editor afterwards. I guess will depend on the model, but digital zoom, in my experience, isn't great.

BTW, if you ever have a question about whether a phone can do navigation then something to remind you, all the basic dedicated SatNav units have just a GPS receiver and some maps.
okay,
will keep in mind
thanks!

RE rotating images in Dopus:
the default button in the image toolbar is:
Code: Text [Select]
  1. Image ROTATE=90 HERE REPLACE
  2. @nodeselect

but it compresses the image:
5.36MB => 4.74MB in a test

I'm pretty sure it didnt used to do this:
I'm on version 12.2
(will update to 12.3 and test again)
Anyone know if the button text needs to be changed or something?

... current phone (Nokia 730) ...

Stick with it unless there's something on Android you want, (or just want a more powerful phone), since it's equipped with basically the same as my phone: GPS, GLONASS, BDS, A-GPS, and a compass.

gotta say: it is a great phone -- not powerful, but was perfect for my needs, with a very nice camera (in daylight at any rate).
There are definitely things on Android I'd like. Having just bought a camera (Panasonic GX85) which can be controlled via app (only android/iphone), makes it tempting -- but that app might end up being one of those toys that never really get used. Of course having just bought that camera probably means I should save any spare money in the bank for my next dentist visit or something responsible like that.
Will hold out another bit.

General Software Discussion / Re: Fixing File Associations (PDF)
« Last post by tomos on December 21, 2016, 08:55 AM »
today, PDF's, when opened indirectly (i.e. called by another software e.g. via a link in spreadsheet, or say Help file via menu) they open via my default browser (PaleMoon). The browser opens the file as if it was being downloaded.
I am bemused, to say the least  ;D

Since you've got DOpus you might find it easier to do it in there, Settings->File Types->System File Types

[ Invalid Attachment ]

That's usually how I end up fixing associations that screw up.

that was interesting -- even though it (Dopus) shows the Adobe Acrobat icon and states: "Opens with: Adobe Reader", when I go to edit as per your screenshot, it had the following for open:
"C:\Windows\eHome\ehshell.exe" "%1"
which turns out to be Windows Media Center ...

I checked DOpus as per 4wd's screenshot and unlike my last experience, it seems to have correct path:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 10.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe""%1"

I'll shutdown later and report back tomorrow if that fixes it.
Otherwise will go rooting around in the registry.

thanks 4wd, you're a mine of information

Work out what you want to do with the phone, then work out what functions the phone has to have to fulfil them.

I live in the woods, and do cycle and walk a bit. I have used my current phone (Nokia 730) on occasion to find out where the hell I was and what direction I should be heading -- it did seem to work pretty quickly, but not sure whether I had internet connection at the time (unlikely, but possible). Hence, I did think the navigation thing was important/of interest. I'll have to come back to this when I have a bit of time:
figure out what my current phone can do (I dont *think* it has a compass), and what I would like in a new (android) one.
