Living Room / Re: All-In-One Multi-Touch Computers - Thoughts?
« Last post by kyrathaba on January 26, 2012, 05:53 AM »
You can find laptops with larger keys that are spaced similarly to those on a regular keyboard. My Dell Inspiron gives me no key-frustration.  But I take your point. If she hates several things about laptops, it's probably the wrong choice.

Kinda hard to go wrong with a large screen laptop. Portable if she needs it to be, but she can use it as a stationary PC if she has a favorite desk or nook where she likes to sit while computing. You definitely want to get as much screen real-estate as possible on a laptop.

You just can't make this stuff up. It's like a dystopian horror novel/movie. But worse.

Ath, thanks so much for pointing out those areas that needed improvement. People like you are largely responsible for developers polishing off those rough edges in their apps.

1 When enabling/disabling the "Exclude /obj/ files" option and "Auto-recount when File Options change" is enabled, a Recount doesn't happen, though it would be quite logical if it did.
2 When resizing the form, the grid columns resize automagically, this is happening from code, right? It'd be nice if my manual width-changes would be used as the relative size.
3 When resizing, the Browse and Recount combo and button move with the right side of the form, but the File filter label/combo stay in their original place. That's a bit funky imho.
4 After a restart, the form is back to it's original size, position and File filter selection. Can these be saved between sessions?

Ath,

In version 1.0.1.3 I believe I've addressed your requests listed in numbers 1, 3, and 4 above. In number two, I've caused the column widths to be, respectively, 80%, 15%, and 5% of the width of the ListView control. Not exactly what you've asked for, but in response to two email feature requests I've received recently (on 12/16 and 01/03). Let me know if you find these changes a general improvement.

You should be able to download the update from within the program, although I also provide the link below:

Note: this version also corrects error where the update-checker says "Kyrathaba's Hangman has found an available update", LOL! Can you say, copy/paste error?

Post New Requests Here / Re: Flexible Fictional Timeline organisation tool

Good info, Tao. We'll see if worstje responds. The idea of software like this appeals to me on both the programming-side and the idea-side. I used to "Dungeon Master" a lot of AD&D games and roleplaying games using other mechanics systems. For those games, I usually did my own world-building. It appears that worstje may have been wanting this kind of software to assist with fiction writing. I could see myself using it for that, but also for any future world-building I might do.

Kyrathaba Software / Kyrathasoft Square Proximity Algorithm Demo
« Last post by kyrathaba on January 22, 2012, 12:08 PM »
This is a complete C# project demonstrating the algorithm to determine which squares among many are in proximity to one another. Download the zipped archive and extract it to your Visual Studio projects directory. Or, if you have .NET 4.0 installed and simply want to observe the program in action, extract the executable from the /bin/ folder and run it.

worstje, I don't know if you ever found a tool to suit your purpose, or if you're still looking for one. If you still need something like this, let me know. I wouldn't mind working iteratively on it (i.e., make a few modifications to the program, send it to you for viewing, get your feedback in order to further refine the program).

The current version, 1.0.1.7, allows the user to -- optionally -- set a backup folder (think: specify a DropBox subfolder). Everytime you save a new record, it gets backed up to the backup directory, if one is specified.

Nice find, app.
1571
Newest version is 1.0.0.5. Be sure that the version you have installed is at least v1.0.0.5, because as of this version, the program checks for an update at startup.
1572
Newest version, 1.0.0.4 adds the ability to edit an existing historical event (i.e., one already shown in the listbox). Just change the long description, date, and time to your desired values, then right-click the item in the listbox and click the menu item to save your changes to file.

Kyrathaba Software / Kyrathasoft C# Screen Capture Demo Project
« Last post by kyrathaba on January 21, 2012, 09:10 AM »
This is simply a small executable demonstrating the capturing of the primary screen in a screenshot, using C#. This isn't a setup program. It's just the plain executable of the program. You'll need to have .NET 4.0 installed to run this program. It permits the user to export the source code that allows the primary screen to be captured.
