I've always liked smooth scrolling because it gives me a better idea where the text i was reading went. Turning off smooth scrolling (especially when using the cursor keys instead of the mouse) and it appears the texts teleports up or downwards, which can be confusing. However after having turned off smooth scrolling it does seem to make more sense when using the mouse scrollwheel.

Post New Requests Here / idea: open folder context menu item
« Last post by justice on July 16, 2007, 01:55 PM »
I'd love to see a context menu item "open folder" on any regular file. The idea is to quickly browse to the folder where the file resides in from any application that acknowledges the context menu. For example I could quickly browse from the opera browser's file transfer dialogue or from within winrar, open and save dialogues etc. The possibilities are endless.

Opera used to have it as an option (was not meant to but you can still enable it manually) but i'd like to see it available across many applications.

I have assigned a hotkey to my fav alias to launch farr with it. This works fine, however it comes up with the Alias name as the start of the command, not the regex pattern.

So now whatever i type is not executed because it doesn't start with the regex pattern.
Try this alias:
1000>>>Feeling Lucky>->Google - $$1 | http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=$$1&btnI=I%27m+Feeling+Lucky /ICON=icons\google.ico>+>^!(.*)>/>24762
I have to type !<some query> for it to work, however using the hotkey farr comes up with "feeling lucky <cursor>" instead, which is not recognised. BTW this alias also still does not come up with an icon, which is a bug in the other thread in case you missed it.

Keep it up.

Woah browsing directories is blazingly fast now! Right that's Folderscout of the disk then!

Try changing some of the parameters in the highlighted area in the screenshot. These are my settings to speed FARR up (don't load results > 9 cos you can't see them anyway etc.) and they make FARR a bit faster than the default settings.

Find And Run Robot / Alias icon not showing
« Last post by justice on July 13, 2007, 08:45 AM »
I've got the following alias but the google icon is now showing! I took the icon part of the alias from the core-search alias for google without modification so don't know what I am doing wrong.

1000>>>Feeling Lucky>->Google - $$1 | http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=$$1&btnI=I%27m+Feeling+Lucky /ICON=icons\google.ico>+>^!(.*)>/>24762

It allows you to type !youtube batman to quickly launch a I feel Lucky google.co.uk search for "youtube batman", it's very quick.

Seems Skype is a good option. No server software to install. You can have group chats, send files to all of them, messages, call etc. You can bookmark the group chat (basically equivalent of a permanent project) then get back to it some other time. Unlimited filesize transfers. Free if you don't call landlines/mobile. :Thmbsup:

You can also enable contact groups, to group your coworkers.

I'm discontinuing software updater in favour of dcupdater ;) It does all and will do much more than an AHK script can do.  :Thmbsup:

So how does it know whether or not the zip file is an update to farr or a seperate program? ah wait with the path in the dcupdate file it doesn't need to does it. Or does it restart farr after any zip file install?

Right we do have groove but only the client, you'd need to set up a seperate groove server which we don't have.  :down:

DcUpdater / Re: New feature idea, is it too late?

I'd have a seperate "browsing view / adding extra" for adding in applications via pad files, and not clutter the "update manager view" with it. At least not give the impression that DCUpdater just installed 63000 apps!  ;D

Perhaps it's country specific. For example in the UK you might see a shift more towards banking rather than US government for example.
1569
What version of farr are you using? Version 2.00.121 - July 1st, 2007 or newer is required for the updater file, although perhaps from Version 2.00.115 - June 29, 2007 you can update from itself.

Actually we have office 2007 at work, I just never associated the name Groove with this. Bad naming. I'll have a look at that and get back.

Would be good if there was some kind of grouping, to sort by update status "updates available","out of date", "up to date" etc. DCU can do this by itself. Filtering out programs that have not changed is a good idea, would be a nice option or tab, cos you need to view a list of all recognised software too (for duplicates or maintanance).

DcUpdater / Re: Adding support for zip files
« Last post by justice on July 11, 2007, 08:44 AM »
Farr comes with updated versions of farr plugins that mouser has included in the default installation. Any other ones that have been added won't work at the moment if they depend on zip files, as that functionality is not in DCUpdater yet.

That's my understanding.

hey fantastic tip!
obviously it's not instant with a query like +\ c:\ <folder> but it works good enough for me to add some popular folders into farr.

Living Room / How to best share documents, notes, links with coworkers?
« Last post by justice on July 11, 2007, 04:39 AM »
 8) is there any software that allows you to invite your coworkers to share notes, ims, links, documents etc and maybe collaborate? All messengers seem to focus on sending a file to someone (but not leave it available, or sorted by project), and one to one communication (in stead of group communication). Using a website is too slow and it should be running internally if possible. Pownce looks like it might go there, google groups would work but we are all in the same building.

Any ideas or suggestions welcome  :Thmbsup:
