General Software Discussion / Re: svchost /k netsvcs [Problem on Win.7]
« Last post by tomos on January 10, 2017, 10:34 AM »
I installed KB3161608 but the problem is still there. One solution to netsvcs high cpu usage can be to stop updates.

what's with the link -- it looks good if you scroll down, but first suggestion is some sort of registry repair programme?
Why dont you mention contents of link? Did you try any of the suggestions there?

I really enjoyed it

hi jroman
thanks, any chance you'd update the original thread? (There's so many new apps, I initially didnt have a clue which one you were referring to)

^ sure. Otherwise, I preferred the flexibility of Instant Boss. Workrave was more of a PITA -- which might be exactly what is needed :D

I think that using WorkRave (I've used it for several years) is the only real solution to your 'problem'.

for prompting a break, there's also app's Instant Boss

which I used for years

Oh and this is so illegal  ;D

personally dont think that's a great idea here: not sure what mouser thinks...
I think it more of interest to know how you got to it -- but maybe that's even more illegal  ;D

I'm now getting an issue with Runtime Broker and it often uses up to 50% of my CPU resource, even I'm not run any kind of programs.

Any idea what problem I'm getting?

hi daniel9, did you read (or try any of) the suggestions in the thread ?

« Last post by tomos on January 05, 2017, 04:41 AM »
An idea here -- first, a disclaimer: haven't used / seen this app in use (currently on a windows phone)

This could be an interesting app if one could change the text for each mode.
Then, instead of being to do with eating, it could be e.g. to do with sport, or to do with generally keeping the house in order:

Normal would be: 'normal' minimal (defined) amount of housework
Feast would be: do nothing around the house
Fast would be: extra cleaning

Just throwing it out there -- probably problematic if one wanted to have two versions on the phone...

Windows Phone 8.x (maybe)

just wondering if this still planned?
Well, with WinPhone (any version) on a marginal market share, it would be on-demand, and only after the translation is completed and iOs version released.
Got a special interest in it? :o

no (thanks!), because I want to move to android anyways this year

Enjoying trying out a few different ones today
Thanks for the overview mouser :)

Wondering if 'File Explorer proof of concept' does justice to DIA4 and DIA5 ?
Just trying them out -- I'm struggling with aspects -- not sure if that me or the software, but they seem pretty powerful (especially DIA5)

This seems a really powerful programme with lots of interesting options. (Not usually working with text files, it's possibly not one I'd use a lot though.)

I'm wondering how/when I can use the F keys:
if e.g. I want to rename a file, I select file, then edit the name in the field at bottom, and try pressing F9, but no response. I find I have to actually click the F9 button. Am I doing it wrong?

I'm a very basic 'searcher', having only installed 'Everything' about a year ago.
I like the filtering options
Will try for a while see how I get on with it

« Last post by tomos on January 04, 2017, 11:30 AM »
I've uploaded v1.0.2 with better startup checking for Windows 10. The ChartLyrics site still isn't up at the time of this post but at least sLyrics shouldn't go unresponsive now. I'm pretty frustrated that the ChartLyrics website went unreachable after developing this app. The site has been flakey in the past, but not to this extent. If anybody knows of another free lyrics site with a free API, feel free to let me know.

General Software Discussion / Re: Fixing File Associations (PDF)
« Last post by tomos on January 04, 2017, 09:53 AM »
today, PDF's, when opened indirectly (i.e. called by another software e.g. via a link in spreadsheet, or say Help file via menu) they open via my default browser (PaleMoon). The browser opens the file as if it was being downloaded.
I am bemused, to say the least
[..]
I'll shutdown later and report back tomorrow if that fixes it.

I forgot to check this after rebooting...
Have updated windows since, and no longer have the problem -- so cant say what fixed it, nor what broke it :-\ but at least it working now

hi pierrick,
1) is this when taking screenshots of your browser?
1a) Is your browser Firefox?
See SC Options:
Basic Capture > Capturing options
Untick 'Capture URL' =>see if that makes a difference

or
2) could this be to do with your anti-virus?
I believe this has been a problem with others in the past: the AV updates, and decides to give SC a hard time.
To rule this out, can you add SC to list of excluded processes in your anti-virus ?

Post New Requests Here / Re: New Year, New Question!
« Last post by tomos on January 04, 2017, 08:19 AM »
to clarify:

A small but persistent challenge for me is to change the way folders are displayed in my Windows7 taskbar.
If I've got 6 folders open I'd like to color-code, number, or iconify each one for easy recognition.

do you mean: the folders you happen to have open at the moment, in different Explorer windows?

General Software Discussion / Re: Google Nik Collection

For over 10 years, I happily used Photoshop 5.5 and a Nik plugin called sharpen edges.
It was very good, and avoided sharpening noise etc.

Have downloaded these but not tried out yet.
