I wonder if there is a Quick Reply text area patent somewhere. While we are at it let's run through software made here. Capturing multiple clipboards patent, grabbing screenshots patent..."absurd" is the kindest word one can use

I for one hope Microsoft will start enforcing "only execute from <sensible locations>" policies soon.

That, and what Eóin said.

This +100. And prompt before dropping folders, especially generically named folders (eg. "Notes"), into My Docs

Normally I don't talk give 'opinion' so close after someone's passing and I don't like to. However the part quoted above by Eóin is astounding.

I understand. It works for me so it's fine for me at least. I will try the alternate method for Notepad++. Thanks.

@Renegade, thank you very much  .NET is no problem. Running it and pasting into Notepad, works great.

Just a couple of things that are not a problem for me but just to look, the timer thing happened when I clicked stop twice in a row by mistake. The other is pasting into Notepad++ (language either php or normal text).

Finished Programs / DONE: Pausable timer
« Last post by rgdot on October 03, 2011, 05:59 PM »
I am looking for a timer that is pausable. But also has a separate hotkey or button that pastes the current elapsed time (to the second) into an 'internal' or external text editor. After pasting it the focus moves to after the pasted time ready for me to type things. Would be great if it can also paste the current date but that is of course available in text editors so it's not very important.

If this makes sense (?) is it doable? or something like this exists already?

Thanks :)

Speaking of which, this is from last week

http://news.cnet.com...pid-release-firefox/

Mozilla, faced with business users' stiff resistance to its new rapid update schedule for Firefox, has proposed a slower-moving version of the browser.

:o

I am speechless... v8? Already?

Yes

http://news.cnet.com...search-tab-controls/

• Twitter is now an option for Firefox's built-in search box, letting people more easily find results for particular usernames or hashtags.

• When people drag tabs into a new position or tear them off into a new window, the tabs are represented by an animated version of the tab rather than just a thin line.

• When Firefox restores tabs from a previous session, for example when the browser or computer is restarted, it can be set to load only the active tab initially. With this setting, other tabs reload only when they're viewed.

• Add-ons such as toolbars that are installed by third-party software won't run until the user grants permission.

• When users upgrade to the new version, they'll see a dialog box one time that lets them disable add-ons. The dialog box will present an initial selection of only add-ons that were installed from within Firefox, though users can make their own choice.

My 2 cents:

Apple, Cheaper will not dissuade the Apple consumer just yet. That may change in the future.
RIM, They are already in trouble even before this, I think RIM is seeing and will see a gradual drop off any way.
HP, for all intent and purposes already exited this market.
MS, Hardware and MS...meh :D
Android in general, as mentioned in the article probably most affected, especially if Fire keeps growing in features.

Have been running beta for a couple of weeks. I don't see any perceptible improvements over older versions.
I think at some point the versions and supposed improvements pass you by. While this may not make sense from a viewpoint of a program/code at some point a user has to accept that some newer stuff are not meant for older (XP era) computers. For example may be in this case it has to do with hardware acceleration. I have not seen any major, or arguably minor, improvements on the memory and CPU front. 3 similar tabs (no add-ons!) go to 400MB+ as fast as v3.6 for me.

Nice stats.

Speaking of caps to tail end. These ones are cap to tail end too but almost everyone I know, including myself, has them on a key chain, so there goes that idea. I doubt the designers really thought it through.

May be this general thread is a good place to post this
At least at first glance this seems to be a good read on the topic :)
1572
MS were sued because they were in a dominant position in the market, they couldn't sue Apple because a few percentage share of the market does not justify anti trust or similar. This may be possible now if you want to classify tablets/smartphones alone (not computers in general) as a market segment.
