N.A.N.Y. 2011 / Re: NANY 2011 Pledge: ProtoCards
« Last post by mouser on October 01, 2010, 10:57 PM »
I'm really excited about this project -- it's been bouncing around my head for a couple of years and i'm anxious to take a whack at a first version.  I'm excited that carl (codebyter) has taken the bull by the horns and is running with it.

It's a big project and it remains to be seen how far we can really get with it by the deadline, but i really do want to see what a first prototype would look like and then re-evaluate from there.

Along with this tool/webservice I plan to release a set of python utilities and libraries that have been created to help advanced card/board game designers create and print custom cards and pieces.  If all goes well these utilities will interface with the card/board game engine to provide a single workflow for game designers to create game cards/pieces, prototype them on paper and on the computer, and then have publication quality printing done.  Note that these aren't nice gui utilities to help you lay individual card graphics one-by-one.  They are for more advanced game designers/experimenters who want to programmatically create, annotate, and and layout for printing sets of cards without having to do each one by hand.  They are useful if you want to dynamically create cards with different statistics, of different proportions, etc.

Interesting article on salon.com today about tipping:

that's what *should* be happening automatically when you copy something to clipboard, i'm not sure why it's not but i will fix.

ahhhh, ok i understand completely now.. sorry for my confusion.
this must have started after an attempt to improve copying to clipboard of transparency (seen in shadows);

there is no bug as far as i can tell -- choose menu "File -> Create Thumbnail" and set whatever border size, shadow, and smoothing filter that you want.

let me know if you are still stuck and think there is a bug i'm not understanding.

Living Room / Re: Am I the only one who finds the new Apps-based world boring?
« Last post by mouser on September 29, 2010, 06:39 AM »
I have the same unsatisfied feeling, though my interpretation is somewhat different than yours.

I feel like these huge app stores are turning into marketing/advertising repositories.  Where we are all playing one huge game where the "content creators" are trying to come up with clever ways to create an advertisement that has just enough "value" to convince us to install it.

strange.  anyone have any clues? one thing im not clear about is the interaction between startup mode and RDP.  is it that it works fine no matter what if you are using it from local machine, but if you RDP in, then it gives blank screens unless the RDP user starts SC manually after logging in?  or am i getting that wrong?

new release; this may fix a problem some people were having launching full screen games with LBC.

v1.116.01 - September 26, 2010
  • [MinorFeature] New option to disable the autofix on resolution change; and attempt to not perform this when full screen application is taking over;
  • [MinorFeature] Unhiding docks with hotkey now causes them to show immediately, even if "Delay on Unhide" option is set.
  • [MinorFeature] New general option to disable the default behavior of turning off on-top behavior when a screensaver or other full-screen application is running.
  • [BugFix] Older files with a bad icon image somewhere in the dock could cause improper matching of tree items and icons, resulting in wrong icons being shown for tree nodes.

How come nobody told me how badly SC handled network screenshot paths?
New beta version -- hopefully i haven't broken anything in the process:

v2.86.04 beta - September 28th, 2010
  • [MinorFeature] The active window filename fields that can be used in file naming or info templates now do not include the file extension (.exe)
  • [BugFix] Adding an image caption was not setting file dirty, and so not prompting you to save changes if you select a new image.
  • [MinorFeature] Trying to get SC to handle network paths (start with //) better for screenshot and moveto directories.
  • [MinorFeature] Tools directory is rescanned and tools refreshed after closing the Edit Tools dialog (saves you from having to exit program and restart).

See link to beta in first post.

I think Bamse is onto something with this:
Well you must also remember that many times those who answer have seen same question before

If you see a snippy reply from someone telling to "google it" or something similar, chances are that the person who wrote that takes very seriously their obligation to help people find answers to questions when people are really stuck.  So when they see someone asking a question that they feel could have been answered by the person themself if they only bothered to search, they may feel a little like an emergency room doctor dealing with someone at the front of the line complaining about a splinter -- wanting you to move along and come back when you really need help.

unfortunately the RDP-user already has admin-rights.

yes but you said that the problem only occurs when started by the task scheduler -- what i was wondering is if the task scheduler is starting it with reduced permissions.

Hi felix,

I think this issue has been raised before but i don't remember if it was ever resolved; it seems like it could be an issue with insignificant permissions.  I do remember there was one security program that was causing this also.  Perhaps if the task scheduler started instance was told to run as admin?

that makes sense.
ok easy to overcome, edit the configdir.ini file in the screenshot captor program directory, and follow instructions there to give it a new place to save the file.

the file should be saved in your documents folders under subdirectory DonationCoder\ScreenshotCaptor

does it say the specific path it is trying to save it to and failing?

General Software Discussion / Re: how to create algorithm graphs

teechart office isnt really meant to be a serious graphing program -- it's a demo for a (pretty powerful) developer library for adding graphing to applications you build.
