I knew about the RPGs :)  I just didn't know about the video games.  I guess that they're trying to fend off PAX.  I was thinking about going to PAX East or PAX Unplugged next year as both are closer to me than GenCon or Origins.  But considering the fact that I'm supposed to be trying to purchase a house next year, it probably won't happen.

Unfortunately a bit far away for me.  One year, though!  Do they actually have video games there now?  I thought it was more tabletop rpg and board games, but it might have updated...

So I can post now?

Seems like you just did..?  ;D

General Software Discussion / Re: How to extract tree hierarchy in xml?

I've used their JSON viewer on a large file before (7MB+) and it handled it with aplomb.  It doesn't extract the hierarchy, but it does visualize it, so he can know what to copy from the tree.  Just a suggestion.

You could also use an online one.

Yep.

But you didn't get a chance to ask anything?  They just popped on and off?

Seems rather irresponsible...

Were you there at the time that they were?

Right,

Disabling updates is not an option. Making updates non-automatic might work, but is a poor option.
I don't want to have to remember to go and check for + install updates - I want it to be a fairly automatic process.

wraith808: that link is just Microsoft really, really, REALLY not getting what people are complaining about >_<
In my case (Auto-Update OFF / metered connection) i use WSUS Offline Update to do such action.
= How to REALLY stop ******* Windows Update on Win10? = solved with that. Or am i wrong?

I tried that, and found that there are side effects that aren't immediately obvious.  The one that I saw (thankfully before it became an issue) is that my syncing software for my backups stopped syncing because of the change.  With this in mind, I switched mine back.

Is it Russia, OR China, or Russia AND China, and how would you know?
Just curious.
It might be North Wales - a lot of agitprop there...    ;)

He would know from the IP addresses that the attacks are originating from, I'd assume.

The attack continues.. So strange.. Why anyone would target us I cannot fathom..

Mistaken identity? The fact that we fight spam?  Just random?

I take it that the attacks vary widely in country of origin?

You might want to zip it and upload it instead of uploading a .EXE.

I'm not sure whether this is the right place to post this, but I didn't see a more appropriate section, so... I just clicked on my link to the DC site. Instead of going directly there, my browser showed a large box that said something like "Check your browser before access the Donation Coder site."  The box soon brought me to the DC site. I exited,  tried again, and this time there was no such box.  I don't recall ever seeing such a thing before.  Is it related to the ddos attack I read about a day or so ago?

I, on the other hand, find the look pretty great. Having the legs flush with the rest of the structure seems... blocky, I guess. Current placement is good

Agreed!  :Thmbsup:

Yes, mouser explained that he switched on CloudFlare protection, so that's what that is from.

Some NL sites I frequently visit were also unreachable a week or so ago. After research from a tech site that got hit, it appears that someone paid about 40 euro's to have a stress test website attack several domains for a day. No questions asked by the stress test website to see if the person paying for the stress test had anything to do with the requested domains...they just take the money and do their thing. The guy who paid for it was eventually caught, because he started to provoke/brag to one of the admins of the tech site through IRC.

A few I know are under attack also.  Why do people do such things for no real reason?

Living Room / Re: Procrastination as a phase in a project
« Last post by wraith808 on July 26, 2018, 05:08 PM »
Most of us know procrastination. Gets in the way and stops us from doing things.

I prefer to think of it as failure to overcome inertia.
you mean it's inertia that leads (or can lead) to procrastination?
Thinking about it, there can be a sort of a bunny-in-the-headlights vibe when starting a new project...

Analysis Paralysis.  I know it well.
1546
But you have to have Pro to do that, don't you?
1547
I believe the necessary policies only work on enterprise versions, not even pro versions >_<

Removing the task files are not enough, they get re-created. The same goes for setting all ACLs to deny access, Windows will eventually go "Lol, I'm LOCALSYSTEM, bitch, what are you gonna do about it?" and reset/recreate the ACLs.

I mean making something to run resident that checks for the task files being created, and deleting them again.  It worked for a while; I had that folder locked down and had created another bogus task with the same name that did nothing, and locked that down.  It worked until one of the big updates, but hasn't worked since then.

Hello Sir, did you tried all THIS methods?

I've tried all of them other than the metered connection bit.  I was just skeptical about other ramifications and not fed up enough to do it.  I'm trying it now, though.

Ah... I was wondering about that loading page.  Glad that you got it back up!  Who did we piss off, I wonder...
1549
Yeah... I looked into this a while ago.  The only ways are (a) by policy because businesses wouldn't put up with this and MS knows it or (b) some 3p solution.  I've tried a few.  The only one that sticks is deleting the task.  I even tried using their settings in the registry- and they changed them.  I was getting close to creating some custom way to monitor for those tasks, as I saw that they'd been added even after I removed them, added a bogus task and then locked that one from access.  I think the task removal is all that's required from my use of it, but who knows.

The parameter it's asking for is a Windows handle.

But beyond that, there's something intrinsically wrong with this, I think.  Where did you get that EndDLL function from?  It seems to me that you're mixing ideas in calling the Fortran DLL from VB, and though you have it working, it's really not being called as intended, therefore your results could be suspect, as your problem coming out of the method point towards memory access errors.

Just ideas- I'm shooting very much in the dark here with only partial code to work from; it appears that your method, if it's defined as above, is not defined as _stdcall.  Check that first link I put in there- the instructions are for Fortran90, i.e.

If you are using CVF, then just add the following to the declaration of
mydllsub:
!DEC$ATTRIBUTES STDCALL:: mydllsub
!DEC$ATTRIBUTES DLLEXPORT:: mydllsub
!DEC$ATTRIBUTES ALIAS: 'mydllsub'::mydllsub
!DEC$ATTRIBUTES REFERENCE:: myarray,n,m

Then remove that EndDLL function and try it- that would be my final suggestion.
