While roaming around, I found one small mistake, year is showing 2017, though page is opening correct of 2018.

I guess Ghacks can't be making all the mistakes.

Interesting that it says you have everything set up properly. Every email I've gotten from DC since the move has a big red warning saying that "this email has failed its domain's authentication requirements. It may be spoofed or improperly forwarded!"
Does it give you any clue about what it doesn't like?
If you view the email headers do you see anything that might give a clue?

Hmm... Come to think of it, this may be a result of me using an email forwarder.

But I do that for a lot of addresses and this is generally the only one I see these warnings about, which made me think it was a problem on your end.

Thanks for posting about your setup. How'd you make those spiffy layer layout images?

Also, if you don't mind, it would be cool if you updated your post to add links to the various components you purchased for your setup, so everyone could see the individual parts that make the whole.

It seems the favicon for the root domain is different than the one for the forum. The forum one looks normal (mostly blue planet). The root domain one is more purple colored.

It's been almost another year and since I last posted here and while I did use Brave as my primary browser for a while, I've mostly moved on from Brave to Vivaldi, at least on desktop. But I still use Brave as my default browser on Android.

But anyway the reason I came back to resurrect this old thread is to mention the progress Brave has made in terms of payments. They've since created their own ERC20 token on the Ethereum blockchain, called Basic Attention Token (BAT). If you opt-in to their payment systems, you can top up your wallet on a monthly basis and any website you visit will automatically get paid a certain amount based on how often/long you visit each site, etc.

BP_YT_ledger2.png

Right now to encourage adoption, Brave are currently giving away ~$1,000,000 worth of BAT--about $5 worth to every person who decides to try it out. Note that you can't just go and claim the BAT and keep it for yourself or sell it. Once it is claimed to your Brave wallet, it automatically will be earmarked to pay websites you visit. More details about the BAT giveaway can be found here:

https://brave.com/million

So give it a try, and be sure to visit DonationCoder in Brave after you've enabled payments so some of the funds can be sent to supporting this wonderful site.

mouser: If you want to be able to claim the funds earmarked for this site, you need to verify yourself/this site with BAT, here: https://publishers.b...cattentiontoken.org/

Scouten Sisters - Sisters (Rosemary Clooney)

If you're not aware, that song is featured in an old Bing Crosby & Danny Kaye film called White Christmas (1954).

What red color scheme?

Heh heh... It was a joke. :P

Maybe this will make it more obvious:

It makes my eyes bleed.

Strange red color scheme, though. . .

I don't like the new favicon. It makes my eyes bleed.

Other than that, the site looks great. Strange red color scheme, though. . .

« Last post by Deozaan on January 12, 2018, 12:13 AM »
It seems to me that mouser has decided that hamradio's image is the only valid submission to this competition, and therefore the winner.

Thanks to everyone who participated in this thread, and congratulations/thanks to hamradio for providing us with an alternate design this year.

Hopefully next year we can put on a similar competition that gets a bit more attention and entries.

I got through the 90 minute Kevin Smith "review" just now. I wouldn't call that a review so much as a play-by-play of the events of the movie.

It seemed to me there was very little critical content in the review. It was mostly just him retelling what happened and then saying how much he liked it. I dunno; I guess that's a review...

Wait, a large portion of the 2nd movie (of the final (or third) trilogy) took place on a planet called Ach-To? Is it just me or is that just a play on "act two"?

I started Kevin Smith's review but then realized it was a feature-length video and am not sure I have time for it at the moment. But I'll try to get to it.

There's something strange going on with those links... I can't even find the one for NANY 2018 as the link provided goes to their NANY 2017 from last year.

Looks like they've noticed their mistake and have changed this year's link to redirect to last year's article.

« Last post by Deozaan on January 09, 2018, 03:20 AM »
I almost replied earlier, but thought my reply would be kind of pointless, so I decided not to.

I used to use Subsonic, and even purchased a license. I really liked it and it served me well. And I would certainly recommend it to others who are looking for something like it. But somewhere along the lines (probably a couple years ago by now) it didn't get reinstalled after I formatted my computer, and it seems I haven't missed it enough to reinstall it since then.

So this looks cool, and I'm happy it exists for Subsonic users. But at the moment I'm not one such user. :-[

For an example of this out in the wild: The Lastpass extension uses a Base64-encoded image to inject their little asterisk symbol (or whatever their logo is these days) into form fields for their autofill stuff.

Looks like they made a similar mistake last year:

https://www.ghacks.n...-nany-2016-releases/

They posted about the apps submitted for NANY 2017, but called it NANY 2016 (as you can see in the URL, the article itself has since been updated to refer to it as NANY 2017).

I feel like I read this news here on DC before, but I can't find it in a search of the site.

But maybe I just read the blog you linked to.

I think mwb's suggestion is more useful, but here are some other ideas that may or may not work:

  • Email the bookmarks to yourself (maybe break it up into smaller chunks and send it over multiple emails). Search your email, click the link.
  • Store the file on Google Drive. Does Google Drive have search on iPad? If so, search it and click the link.

Another option is Telegram which can do voice calls, but not video.

Or Discord, which supports voice, video, and even screen sharing.

It's nice to finally see some more art in this thread. And nicer to see the collaboration of people helping make improvements. :-*

Admittedly this competition didn't get as much attention or entries as we had hoped, but mouser and I are discussing how to wrap things up so we can have a finalized alternative design for this year's NANY rewards.
