Living Room / Re: Magic thinking in Europe - Solving the EU debt problem.

^ We were told the same (accounting for differences in time and place) before the US based bailout of 2008/09. The only implosion possible is of the system - so-called capitalism - itself.  As far as some measures causing social unrest that may be inevitable whether or not this magic materializes or not. Already headed to a time when it's a fight between "entitlements" vs. "reduced government".

Besides it is in the interest of all those supplying (China perhaps in this case) to accommodate so actually that implosion might not even happen or be postponed for a few generations.

Since the whole system is based on some form of magic (dividends, futures, forecasts) why would this be any different?

Good point, these tools have the potential to abuse. As for me I will be doing one site - one page - once a day.

Living Room / Automated site capture
« Last post by rgdot on October 29, 2011, 10:28 AM »
Is there a program that can, via an internal browser or perhaps other method, automatically load a site and take a screenshot of it? For example I want to take a screenshot of example.com every day at 3PM.
I am thinking if such a program doesn't exist may be an existing website capture program can be set to do it with an external task scheduler?

Any ideas? :)

Thanks guys, I'll probably buy from a brick and mortar place to run back and return it if it doesn't work out for whatever reason.

Here's a newbie type question   :-\

Have an old XP Dell Dimension 8400 that's humming along for now. Want to use it with a new cheaper monitor, most of the cheaper ones on newegg and other places are listed 1366/768 (1.77) or 1440/900 (1.6). The resolutions available (see screenshot for Radeon specs) are 1280/1024 (1.25) - 1280/800 (1.6) - 1280/768 (1.66) - 1280/720 (1.77) - 1152/864 (1.33) - 1024/768 (1.33) - 800/600 (1.33)

If I can avoid it I don't want to spend anymore for this pc even if it is possible (is it even?) to get a new compatible card.
So with one of those cheaper monitors I will be stuck with using the one or two resolutions that match the ratio or am I off?

It really depends what the definitions and expectations are, if Google higher ups are sitting there with corporate 'projections' matching facebook numbers then we can all safely say Google+ does need a eulogy. If they are willing to ride it out and keep growing naturally there is zero chance Google+ is going anywhere.
There are entire marketing campaigns where companies are not even mentioning company.com they are only promoting facebook.com/company - and bringing in Likes all over. It's very difficult to break that, this is not a case of people leaving Myspace for facebook anymore. facebook has a much bigger hold across many demographics, entities, groups, etc.

I seriously believe this:
User Experience is much like SEO, plenty of test cases that ultimately all have faults and never always work. Cramming all their services into accessible and 'uniform across products' way...will not happen.

If Google's DNS doesn't make a noticeable difference you probably need to investigate the modem, built-in firewall, bad firmware and the like

Provider's DNS issues? try using google servers if possible.

Configure your network settings to use the IP addresses 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as your DNS servers or

If you have a case where people would be typing/searching all the words of the url (I don't think the order matters much if the words are 'whole' words) then google will almost certainly show it early if not first.
1 out of 3 words, 1 out of 2, 2 out of 3, etc. will revert back to the content side of things and registering the variations will not have much effect. Again unless 1 or more words are recognized organizations and the like.

I don't think it works.

In terms of the domain names themselves, not content:
I have rgdot.com, someone searching rgdot might get the person who has rgdot.net before me yes but me buying all of them (rgdot.org, rgdot.net, rg-dot.com, rg-dot.net) for myself will have no effect if someone is searching for rg, unless rg is some obvious trademark and not a regular word (like let's say if cnn-dot.com existed and someone searched cnn)

My experience tells me:

Keyword rich titles and content (but not to the point of being abused rich)
Something (blog or otherwise) updated regularly
Relevant incoming and out going links.
More to your point(?)...Avoid duplicate content, actually I would say this is only important if it's happening across multiple domains and not within the same url as some would claim.

Nothing else, despite what some 'pros' may say

EDIT:

If you are refering to buying (bad example) house.com, myhouse.com, thehouse.com to boost your ranking. In my opinion you can buy as many as you want but if the above points are not met it won't matter.

I was about to post much earlier in this thread but thought it is only shared you are after. VPS offerings will all "allow" 5.3, if they are real (root access, etc.) VPS offerings. Places with good support (knownhost.com for example) will even help if anything is not available out of the box, most likely that include Postgres too
