Post New Requests Here / Re: IDEA - new option for DragLock?
« Last post by mouser on December 11, 2010, 06:38 PM »
Welcome to the site mastersesci

That sounds like a good idea..

Skrommel, the DragLock author, has been pretty busy lately, but maybe someone else could modify the code.

Here's the original DragLock thread: https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=14009.0

Find And Run Robot / Re: No EditBox
« Last post by mouser on December 11, 2010, 05:07 PM »
id really like to see the bad ini file -- might give me a clue as to what went wrong.

there is no reason you should have to lose any of your ini settings -- its almost certainly justone line in that ini that is the culprit.

can you show me a screenshot?

try to find your FindAndRunRobot.ini file, which will be in your documents folder somewhere.  exit farr, RENAME it, restart farr.
if that solves it, send me your ini file so i can see what the problem is!

usually no edit box means you dragged the icons too far over to the left, and you just need to drag them back.

From a cryptography/security standpoint, bitcoin seems quite interesting, and there is an academic paper in pdf format available on the faq page that looks like great reading.

DcUpdater / Re: libcurl download error
« Last post by mouser on December 10, 2010, 10:17 PM »
Ok so you do use a proxy for normal web browsing?
The proxy feature of DcUpdater *should* work, but honestly im not sure how to test it or if anyone else using a proxy has had any trouble.
15008
I should note that we aren't planning any site/forum changes at this time.. so the migration should be fairly painless and you shouldn't see any real differences.  [some more substantial site changes are planned for 2011 though!]

Official Announcements / DonationCoder.com New Server Migration Coming Soon
« Last post by mouser on December 10, 2010, 11:13 AM »
Ok we are going to be moving the DC domain to a new server in the next couple of days (over the weekend probably).

This could go completely smoothly, or may hit some hiccups, and may mean a day or two of strangeness as the new server address propagates through the domain name servers.

I will post again right before we pull the trigger, and then the forum will close while we migrate the database, and then re-open on the new server.

So everyone grab your teddy bears and baby cody plushies and hold tight over the weekend, and wish Gothi[c] good luck as he drives the truck full of dynamite over the bridge.

SERVER CHANGEOVER HAPPENING TODAY - SUNDAY 12/12/10

We did not go ahead with the server changeover due to difficulties getting the mysql database operations optimized.  See post below.

DcUpdater / Re: libcurl download error
« Last post by mouser on December 10, 2010, 09:47 AM »
Hi Tony.

It looks like it's having trouble connecting to the website via the internet.
Possible reasons:
  • Your internet connection is down for everything (but the fact that you can visit this web page makes that unlikely).
  • You have a firewall blocking DcUpdater from connecting to the website (fix: unblock the program in your firewall).
  • You are behind a proxy of some sort, which is configured for your web browser but not DcUpdater (fix: set proxy settings in DcUpdater options).

Do any of those seem plausible?

Living Room / Re: DDOS Ethics
« Last post by mouser on December 10, 2010, 08:38 AM »
For an interesting take on the DDOSing:

http://www.boingboin...magazine-condem.html

2600: The Hacker Quarterly, has published a public statement opposing the Anonymous denial-of-service attacks on the services that abetted the censorship of Wikileaks. 2600's position is that the inexcusable moral cowardice of Visa and Mastercard and PayPal, etc, do not justify the use of brute force. Additionally, 2600 says that DDoS attacks are tactically unsound, as they create sympathy for these companies, and are used as a pretense for more attacks on Internet freedom. Finally, 2600 wants to strong disassociate "hackers" from people who merely run a piece of push-button DoS software, and to ensure that the security specialists, experimenters, hobbyists and others who make up its community are not unfairly associated with the DDoS attacks.

15012
To help put wikileaks in historical perspective i suggest everyone watch:

The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers
http://movies.netfli...123269?trkid=2361637

The cases definitely are not identical, but it opened my eyes to read from just this week, Ellsberg is quoted as saying "EVERY attack now made on WikiLeaks and Julian Assange was made against me and the release of the Pentagon Papers at the time."

music to my ears.

  • doesn't need a restart.
  • just toggle docking
  • then MOVE it to the top of screen, where it will dock and extend itself to full width.
  • then resize it vertically to the size you desire.

ps. don't miss the Launchbar Commander videos here: https://www.donation...ex.php?topic=23686.0

Find And Run Robot / Re: does FARR have a paste text feature?
« Last post by mouser on December 09, 2010, 10:25 AM »
yes indeed it does.

in fact if you type: paste
you will see some samples.

TIP: You can go look at how the "paste" alias works by right clicking on one of those results and choosing "Visit the source alias".  Then create your own paste menus in the MyAliases.alias section using the same technique.

I would be willing to add such a feature to Process Tamer.

i'm pretty sure this is a case of SC scrolling capture not working and not a user error.. it used to work perfectly in firefox for me but recently i've been having the same problem as you.  more and more evidence points to the need for me to revamp the scrolling capture code.

Or are the packages thusly sized that you'd have to send out two no matter what? (I can imagine the member kits being sized to suit a box.)

The member kit is printed, packed, and sent by me in a thin 6x9 envelope -- it's not that exciting :)

The mugs are sent directly from cafepress, and never touch my hands.  In the old days i used to order all of the mugs sent directly to my house and wrap and pack them up and ship them out myself.  But not only did this turn out to be a ton of work, the US post office started raising international shipping rates so much that it became cheaper to have cafepress send them out directly.
15024
As long as there is a healthy interval between requests, or if you are requesting a kit for a friend, it's fine to request new one, no need for additional donation*.

*we are going to have another fundraiser soon.. and we always welcome additional/repeat donations during fundraisers!
