Are there any 3d modeling experts who could make a seriously accurate cody?  Are there places we could *hire* someone to do it?

You could make a request on Polycount.

The other one that 404s is the one I was talking about, but the animation file you linked to should also contain the Cody model. And it's even rigged for animation!

Return cursor to original point - I read that as it returns after performing the click-fest.

Yes, it seems I may have misinterpreted what that feature is meant to do. I read that as it returns after each click. Which it does seem to (attempt) to do.

I didn't see any point in having it clicking away while I'm trying to do something else with the mouse

I'm guessing that you're unfamiliar with a genre of video games that goes by one of three names: idle, clicker, or incremental. :D

They are games that play themselves (hence the "idle" moniker) but usually allow you to progress faster if you are present and clicking furiously (hence the "clicker" moniker). I'm not sure why they are called incremental, except perhaps because each "level" seems to increase in difficulty (and reward) on some sort of exponential scale.

They're an absolute, total, complete waste of time. But something about them makes them quite addictive, so if you start one "just to see how stupid it is" you may have a hard time stopping. My personal opinion is that it has to do with a sunk cost fallacy (e.g., "I've clicked 10,000 times and let the game run for 48 hours! I can't just give up now!" and "When I first started, I had to click 100 times to earn 50 coins, but now I'm earning 5.23e20 coins per second! I can't just quit now and lose the progress I worked so hard for!") and some other psychological effects (e.g., a Skinner boxw).

If I have "Return cursor to original point" enabled, then it will usually click at the original point instead of at the fixed point I have configured.

Worked fine for me.

It seems to work about 50% of the time at the defined click point and at the "original" cursor position. But maybe that's because I'm moving the cursor around. I assume that returning to the original point is so you have the luxury of still using your mouse and moving it around while it's clicking furiously elsewhere.

I found that setting was not reliable. Sometimes it would "reset" my cursor to the defined point, sometimes it would click wherever I had moved the cursor to, away from the defined point. And sometimes it would work as intended, clicking at the defined point while still allowing me to move the cursor around.

If I have "Stop if Ctrl+Alt+Del is pressed" enabled, then it will automatically toggle itself off after <1 second of going.

If I have "Return cursor to original point" enabled, then it will usually click at the original point instead of at the fixed point I have configured.

Living Room / Re: Movies you've seen lately
« Last post by Deozaan on February 12, 2018, 05:35 PM »
I actually liked the first one best as a movie, just not the pacing. I never saw the second for anything other than what everyone ekse was saying which colored my views, but I couldn't get past that in order to formulate my own opinion.

Are you talking about the Thor movies, or the Guardians movies? And I'm not sure what "everyone else was saying" about it, so I don't know exactly what you mean, but it sounds like it wasn't good.

Beyond the Bitcoin Bubble: Long article on blockchain technology and cryptocurrency and the core ideas that might be useful

I've been really excited about the potential future that could be brought about by Ethereum (or something like it) since I really looked into it around the Spring/Summer of 2016. Especially in combination with something like IPFS, which I posted about here in October 2015, and Protocol Labs' more recent development into Filecoin.

It's nice to see that I'm not the only person excited by such prospects.

To be fair, the first two Thor movies played it straight and were just not good. So I guess it's an improvement that at least Ragnarok was funny and entertaining.

I felt GotG2 suffered from many things, but not the humor. With the exception that Drax, who it was established in the first film didn't understand humor and sarcasm, was the one cracking all the jokes and laughing all the time, which seemed very out of character. (I felt that many of the characters acted out of character in 2.) So in that sense, and in those instances, the humor fell flat in my opinion. But otherwise, I came into it expecting a lot of humor, since the first was so funny.

I watched Thor: Ragnarok recently.

I went into it without knowing much of anything about it. I saw part of a trailer for it, showing Thor in some kind of coliseum and an appearance from the Hulk. That's what I thought the movie was going to be about: 90-120 minutes of powerful beings across the universe being forced to battle in a gladiator-style tournament, with Thor climbing the ranks, eventually competing against the Hulk (and maybe other members of the Avengers) and ultimately teaming up with them and overthrowing/escaping the arena to return home. I was very much mistaken; The coliseum played a relatively minor role in the overall plot.

I was really surprised by how the movie didn't take itself seriously in the slightest. It was really funny. I also got a weird retro 80's synth vibe from many parts of the film that just felt out of place to me. Like they were trying to tap into people's nostalgia and the successes of Guardians of the Galaxy and Stranger Things, but in totally random and arbitrary ways. It also had some of the worst and most obvious and unnatural looking CG effects I've seen in a movie since that super creepy, horrifying CG baby from the Twilight film(s).

It seems the marvel movies are suffering from the same thing that (as I understand) tends to happen in comics: Each one tries so hard to out-do the previous entries, with the characters and their enemies becoming even more powerful, until the stakes get raised so high it becomes increasingly bombastic and absurd.

The plot was so absurd, the battles were so over the top (in a Dragon Ball Z kind of way), and the terrible CG was so awfully jarring, that I found myself unable to care about much of anything that was going on. I could no longer suspend my disbelief, so I just had to try to enjoy the spectacle of it all without engaging the rational part of my brain at all. A bunch of people died, but none of it was of any consequence. There was an attempt at a noble sacrifice near the end, but even that played out to be more humorous than meaningful.

If you like the superhero movies, especially the Marvel ones, you'll probably enjoy Ragnarok.

I enjoyed it. It entertained me. Yet I'm not sure I would recommend it. Maybe if you go into it expecting it to be one of those so-stupid-it's-funny comedies like Napoleon Dynamite or Nacho Libre. I guess I could summarize it by saying that it was funny and entertaining, but it wasn't very good.

Was it an old(er) game that you were using for the LAN gaming? I remember old(er) games having options for LAN gaming, using a serial connection, by using IPX/SPX and also the TCP/IP protocol. There are ways to transfer IPX traffic over the TCP/IP protocol, but that is all from yesteryear. Still, by using HomeGroup, you might have enabled the IPX traffic to travel over TCP/IP. On the other hand, new(er) games only use TCP/IP anymore.

Homegroup has always been disabled in my network, Onedrive file sharing implies the cloud, which for most is not their own LAN, which makes it practically forbidden in my network. Windows (10) file sharing wizards aren't needed or used either. Linux PCs communicate just fine using Samba. Network printing and scanning, it all working pretty much out of the box. Are you sure your network is configured ok? No double NAT going on anywhere?

It was a bit of an old game, but not that old (2009). And it was at a friend's house, so I had no control over, nor admin access to, the network.

We hope you’re no longer using the HomeGroup feature on your home network, as it’s now been disabled. Microsoft encourages you to use modern solutions like OneDrive file sharing, or the Windows 10 Share functionality for folders and printers.

HomeGroup is being disabled? :tellme: Then what am I supposed to use to allow my computers to communicate with each other? :-\

Just a couple weeks ago I was trying to play a LAN game on two devices on the same network and they just couldn't see each other until I had them both join a HomeGroup. How is OneDrive going to help me with that?

Interesting story. I've never heard of him, or his game, or any of the other people or games he mentioned.

But I may have heard of some of the tools he made (Musica, Tiled, Anima). Either that, or other people made similar tools with the same or similar names.

Yes, use <code> but change the brackets to square braces. [ ]

Living Room / Thread on 3d Printing Cody Model
« Last post by Deozaan on February 01, 2018, 07:01 PM »
Well, I went ahead and did it, I bought a 3d printer.

Anycubic I3 Mega:
Supposed to be a good 3d printer for beginners, and nice and compact.

I'm just printing the test thing now.

What I'd really like to do is have a 3d cody -- anyone have enough 3d (and 3d printer) experience to try to make a version of Cody our mascot for 3d printing?

Awesome! I'm kind of jealous. :P

I'm pretty sure that at one point in time Gothi[c] made a 3D image of Cody in Blender. I'm not sure what it takes to convert/prepare a regular Blend file to be 3D printed, but it may be worth digging up that model. I think I may have it archived somewhere on my HDD, but I won't have access to my PC for a few days.

I'm not sure I understand what this is saying.

Intel released a "fix" that causes system instability and data loss? So Microsoft released an update to disable Intel's "fix"?

In 2016 I set a goal for myself to post at least 1 blog entry on my site per month. And though I have more than 12 blog entries total for that year, I still accidentally missed a couple of months.

My point being that weekly is a huge commitment. If you can get enough people to commit to writing weekly, more power to you. But even only monthly is still a fairly significant commitment, IMO, yet much more achievable.

I also like the idea of maybe just having a bunch of people submit whatever they want whenever they want (it would need more structure than what I'm saying sounds like) and then an editor decides when it gets published. I'm also not sure that, if I were to be a contributor, I would want to be restricted to a single category of writing. While I may be mostly interested in writing about tech (for example), I may occasionally want to write about entertainment, or humor, or a Kickstarter I came across, or whatever.
