UPDATE:

https://www.ghacks.n...layer-vulnerability/
"Update: VideoLAN confirmed that the issue was not a security issue in VLC Media Player. The engineers detected that the issue was caused by an older version of the third-party library called libebml that was included in older versions of Ubuntu. The researcher used that older version of Ubuntu apparently. End"

From VLC: "End of story: VLC is not vulnerable, whether this is 3.0.7.1 or even 3.0.4. The issue is in a 3rd party library, and it was fixed in VLC binaries version 3.0.3, out more than one year ago…"

Yikes -- this is concerning if you use VLC player to play media files.

Researchers from German firm CERT-Bund say they have detected a major safety flaw in the video player, which has been downloaded billions of times across the world, which could allow hackers access to compromise users' devices.

Find And Run Robot / Re: What is FARR's connection with Onedrive?
« Last post by mouser on July 23, 2019, 06:35 PM »
It shouldn't be!
It would only do that if Windows tells it thats the location of your normal documents folder.
By default it will save its settings in the directory that WINDOWS believes is your normal My Documents folder.
Did your window settings somehow get changed to say your documents live under the onedrive folder i wonder?

You can change where farr stores its files by editing the configdir.ini file.
Having said that, I'm not sure why FARR might be keeping that file open, so I will check into that.

I hear ya.. This kind of thing makes me feel like I'm losing my mind. My neighbors hear my screams and think I am going insane.

Have you checked in the bios and made sure you have all wake-on-lan and any other fishy options disabled?

If you turn off your network adapter (e.g. disconnect ethernet, disconnect from wireless), does the problem still happen?
Have you tried turning off automatic update checking?

Have you any 3rd party (like laptop manufacturer, or intel) app that might be trying to check regularly for updates?

Can you post a screenshot of your Capture Options and Capture Rules tab in options?

I need a little more info -- what you are trying to do and what is happening vs what you expect.
1511
Ok my field is blank too, so clearly that options page needs improving; basically blank = default directory.
But that's obviously very unhelpful.  I will fix.
1512
Thanks for the feedback -- that is odd that the directory is missing.  Let me look into these things.. AS does not get nearly as much use as some of my other older programs -- it's nice to hear some feedback.

Another board game experience I loved is:
Escape Tales: The Awakening

Screenshot - 7_16_2019 , 8_01_37 PM.png

There are a bunch of great escape-room style board games that have come out in the last couple of years, where you have to solve puzzles and there is a thin narrative story element.

This one is heavy on the story and thematic element, and is the longest escape room style game currently out there.  You'd be hard pressed to solve it in under 6 hours without cheating, and if you like to talk and discuss like we do, and avoid hints, it could easily take you 12 hours to solve.

I've been told that the "Exit" game puzzle are better quality, but for me the heavy story and theme and serious length made it a favorite.

When's the next one?

I assumed we would have it every year but now I'm thinking we may have to hold it several times each year ;)
1515
Have you tried booting it with a different distribution, like a linux distro, to see if its a hardware issue?
What about reinstalling windows?

It's possible that Firefox is running in some accelerated graphics mode that is preventing the region selection to work.  Can you try minimizing Firefox and selecting the approximate region on the screen, and then seeing if the capture works as expected when Firefox is visible after that.

It's sort of an embarrassing/off-color inside joke.  In chronicles of crime, one of our real favorite new board games, you basically spend the game gathering evidence and asking people about it, and trying to solve a mystery.  In one mission we found some compromising photographic negatives of a model, which explained one of the motives for a murder.  While playing we got into the habit of showing everyone the negatives just to see what they would say.  We got some very entertaining responses -- with some people even kicking us out and not talking to us anymore, etc.  I'm not proud of what we did in that game, but we did solve the mystery and it led to some funny moments...

We had a 2-person board game convention this week :)

About a year ago I made a new friend in my town (Champaign, IL) who has similar tastes and appetite as me in cooperative board games, and most importantly a compatible disposition, and we have been playing a lot of cooperative board games together.

After about a year we decided to host our own 2-person "convention" this week.  3 days of gaming at our local game shop.

All of our friends and the people at the board game store were confused, startled, and then got a chuckle out of our badges and shirts, when they realized it was just the 2 of us "attending" the convention ;)
And we got inquiries from people who want to be part of it next year :)

I highly recommend the idea for anyone who wants to create a fun little event for their friends or family.

We play 15 hours the first day, 9 hours the next, and then 14 hours on the last day.  How's that for commitment ? :)

We played some old favorites, but spent most of our time on a new game that we'd both been looking forward to playing for a year.

Games played: Pandemic Fall of Rome (not our favorite pandemic but interesting), Cahoots (small coop filler), Orleans w/ Invasion co-op expansion (super cool Euro deck builder), Chronicles of Crime (app-driven detective game I have written about in this thread before, one of our favorites).

The game we played the most of (18 hours?) was 7th Continent, a massive, amazing adventure/exploration game.
7thcont2.jpg

It's a co-op/solo board game, heavy on exploration, with lots of story, very long duration scenarios that you are meant to play over the course of 6+ hours, split into different sessions.  It was a kickstarter exclusive but they are going to release a version to retail soon that is much more affordable.  It feels like an open world and is the most thematic adventuring/exploring games I've ever played.  It's difficult, and has some real gaminess/strategy to it, so I would only really recommend it to serious players who can commit the time to it, but wow is it good.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Encoding issue with arrow texts
« Last post by mouser on July 09, 2019, 12:30 PM »
That is a fascinating clue.. I'm still curious why it works on in text box but not in arrows.. It suggests I should still be able to fix it without you having to change that setting globally..

Is is possible you customized one of your GROUPS (left hand panel) with a custom sql filter or custom menu sorting?
The error mentions "IsFavourite" with a U but the proper column name is "IsFavorite" (american spelling).

Right-click on a group to change the custom sql.

LaunchBar Commander / Re: Arranging The Nodes
« Last post by mouser on July 02, 2019, 06:18 PM »
It's just drag and drop, though an option to alphabetize is a nice one.. Maybe I can add it so you can choose it as a display option without it physically re-arranging the nodes, so you could easily switch back and forth.

Screenshot Captor / Re: Turn off automatic saving of screenshots
« Last post by mouser on July 02, 2019, 11:16 AM »
This question comes up occasionally.  While you can turn off automatic saving in SC (see the Miscellaneous Tweaks tab), it's not what I recommend, and if you copy stuff to the clipboard SC may insist on saving it first.

However, a better solution is to go to the Saving and Loading tab and tell SC to Auto Move Older screenshots and have it auto file old screenshots into an OLD folder if they are older than 1 day.  Then you can just delete that folder from within SC whenever you feel like it.

ProcessTamer / Re: Keep Getting Popup Nag Screen on Process Tamer
« Last post by mouser on July 01, 2019, 03:40 AM »
Sorry for the delayed reply.
What it could mean is that that program is being launched, exiting, and re-launching, over and over again.  Each time with Process Tamer reducing its priority when it starts to use too much CPU and then putting it back to normal -- or else following any explicit rule you may have set about it.

The "solution" to the nag messages is to tell process tamer to ignore IMFCore.exe.

General Software Discussion / Re: Firefox 67 upgrade issues

firefox supports multiple "identities" -- you could try starting it with a different identity profile:
https://developer.mo...ox/Multiple_profiles

Maybe that would help troubleshoot the nature of the issue and make it easier to test stuff?

How strange..
I wonder if one of the disabled plugins could still be responsible..
Don't have any ideas except to let you know that FF 67 is working fine here.  But I only have a handful of addons.
