40Hz, after your example of APL, other languages, such as Perl, C, and even C++ seem to be for little children. Even assembly language is more readable than APL. You really have to be thought guy to write programs in it.

Not when I keep seeing almost 30-to-1 ratio in Perl vs. Python jobs in the classifieds and IIRC, it's almost neck-and-neck with C++ and PHP coder jobs.

Where I work almost everybody sees Perl as a "dead" project. And, since I am the only one with some Perl skills, I kind of take it personal.   >:(

Much like "tequila and handguns," it's the way it sometimes gets used that people take issue with. ;D

Ok, thanks a lot for the info. You really are a little fanatical about backup (and this is not necessarily a bad thing), probably you have some very important data you want to protect.

I only use Acronis to make images of the system partition, before installing or doing something that could lead to problems.

From what I read on the site, it does not have partition imaging. This is the way I like to make backups, so I can't use it. If they will add this functionality in future releases I will surely try it.

Be careful when editing the registry. It is very possible that you will have to change the configuration file, taking in consideration the motherboard/chipset with which your computer came.

I see that you have an AMD processor, so the reg hack probably won't work as it is described on that page, as it refers to Intel chipsets.

Better do what f0dder suggested, or search the internet on how to do it for your motherboard.

I think that these videos show that we have some serious problems:

1. Many not very useful products have invaded the market and people buy them just to be in the trend (it's like fashion, each year we need to buy a new model of socks  :)).

2. Many brands that 10 or 20 years ago created good, lasting products now manufacture mediocre products. I think that in the beginning they really wanted to create high quality goods, now they only want high profits, which is not a bad thing in theory. The only problem is that we in their search for higher profits they hurt our interests.

So what can we, as customers, do? (especially for point 2)
Are there any brands left that offer quality first (and not arguments like: buy this product because everyone uses and you must use it too)?

I hope I am not off-topic.  :)

I had a similar problem with my Acer laptop.

It is a little complicate to enable AHCI after you installed XP. Unfortunately I did not note down the steps I followed. From what I remember this site has been helpful:

Try to search the internet on how to enable AHCI on XP (after installing XP) for your particular laptop model.

I have only used the "windowed" version, so I cannot say how good the command line version is, but I think that in general it is a very good program.

In my country, a policeman shared some confidential work-related files on a StrongDC hub (probably he did not know exactly what he was doing). A local journalist found them, downloaded them, read them and wrote in the newspaper about them (from what I remember he did not tell what the documents actually contained). Guess which one was investigated by the prosecutors.  ;)

I'm sure that the US Military are more professional than my country's policemen.

I have seen that we all have a Position (also called Group in some posts) in our profile, that also appears when we post. Could someone explain in details all the levels that can be acquired (when someone gets a new level and why), starting from the lowest one to the highest one?

Yes, you are right, in general. Thanks for the the links, I'll do some research.

But one scenario that keeps coming to my mind is that, being open source, some enemy of the US could try, and succeed, to find a vulnerability in the application, before it is discovered by the community or by the developers, by allocating some huge resources into analyzing the code (or just by chance). They would be afterwards be able to use the bug for their own purpose, for a certain amount of time.

Anyway, I'm sure somebody has thought about this.
