Does anyone know if XYplorer can have a source code viewer with syntax highlighting like dopus (i.e., in the bottom half of the screen?). I find that really useful.

I happily admit that there are one or two things that DOpus does and XY doesn't. And just like DOpus does not try to do everything that's possible (in XY), XY does not try to do everything that's possible (in DOpus). The power of a software (or any product) lies (also) in the difference from others. Clearly DOpus is in various ways bigger than XYplorer, and this size relation will stay like that very probably. If DOpus is Godzilla then XYplorer is T. Rex -- it always depends what suits you best for your current task. :)

Actually, yesterday i was revolted because a bug in XY made me inadvertedly launch a game while my work stuff was taking almost all my mem: i ended up losing half an hour to bring the computer back :(

Hmm, what kind of bug makes someone inadvertedly launch a game? :huh: Sorry for your lost time. By a strange coincidence yesterday I go the idea of adding a "safe mode" to XYplorer, which, if enabled, would pop a confirmation box right ahead of any operation involving files (copy, move, rename, delete, read, write, open -- you configure the degree of safety). I'm not sure yet whether the idea is good, but it probably would have saved you half an hour.

What??? Caramba! I've heard a lot in the years of developing XY but this is new. The majority of users agrees that XY has extremely few bugs, and if a bug is detected it is fixed within 24 hours in almost any case. I pride myself for being quickest bug fixer on the planet and my top development goals are (a) bug-freeness, (b) usability, (c) speed, (d) lightness, in that order. You should know it because you are a member of the forum. Since you joined the forum you posted exactly one bug (which was rather an observation of relative slowness than a malfunction bug, and which was "fixed" (made much faster) in the next release.
So, if you happen to find another of your "countless bugs" simply let me know and I fix it immediately.

And while you are collecting the bugs I go back to work adding Customizable Keyboard Shortcuts (CKS). ;)

The crackers ain't the problem for me. They are just your average teenagers trying to show off. I'm fine with that. Break the rules, cross the borders, feel your power... alright.
What's really disgusting is the wimps that use the cracks to betray hard-working coders. Folks that have the money, folks that wouldn't move a finger themselves without being paid for it, folks that use the cheap anonymity provided by the web to steal with near-to-zero risk from workers that hurt their eyes and backs to create outstanding and original tools. Where's the fun in that? :mad:

The contradictio in adjecto in that question is between the terms "reason" and "fan". Fandom per definition is beyond reason.  :P

For non-fanatics there are indeed many reasons to try XYplorer, whose typical users are not fans (with the exception of Zaine maybe  ;)) but folks that need to get their work done as quickly as possible so that they can go out and play earlier. XYplorer is not a toy but a tool. It is fast to learn, fast to configure, fast to handle, and fast in its operations. On top of this, it is small, cheap, portable, and does not leave a blood trail in your registry or system. When DOpus is a tank, XY is bow and arrow. You choose.

The day has come. Maybe... I made it not exactly as what you are having in mind (I think)... but better (I think, again)! ;)

The XYplorer breadcrumb has three revolutionary features:
  •         It's a breadcrumb that takes no screenspace at all (if you
            don't want it to). It works without toolbar, addressbar, whatever
            bar. Simply press <Ctrl+Backspace> to have it pop up.
  •         It's a breadcrumb that's manageable by keyboard-only. Even
            one-handedly when using the right-hand Ctrl-key!

One question: if the list is currently sorted by Size, how does DO achieve the correct sort order before it knows the folder sizes?
it loads them alphabetically first & then sorts them acording to size - this can take a while if the folders are very large

i'd like to see it do folder size reporting like dir opus: basically the program operates entirely normally and with no waiting, but in the background when you are in a folder it starts calculating and displaying folder sizes..

xyplorer has this feature BUT it's not quite usable yet imho, because it doesnt transparently scan and update folder sizes in a background thread the way dir opus does. ...

Oh la la! This is actually a bug! I just fixed it. Now the shown folder sizes are updated on the fly when any byte down in some subfolder is added or removed. If that's all you need... 8)

Ah yes. Thanks for the most sophisticated screenshot I've ever seen!  :up:

In the next version you can go up and down again as often as you want using <back> and <return>. Nice feature actually, thanks for the input!

BTW: I thinking about a cool way to integrate the Address Bar (AB) with the Bread Crumb (BC). AB-BC... sounds natural. They are so similar that they can take the same screenspace I think... just have to find a way how. AB is keyboard, BC is mouse... 2 worlds clashing...

Breadcrumbs feature is self explanatory. But if you haven't already, I urge you to try xplorer2 (I use the free version) to test exactly how the 'auto remember' works. That way you won't be working on something that's not what is generally intended here.

DonL - I say steal away! Dopus has the same feature (breadcrumbs) so it's not unique to xplorer2 (I have no idea who originated it; very likely it was neither app...).

My idea is I can mark folders with XYplorer and optionally tell to include (or exclude) their subfolders then let XYplorer generates either a BAT file or Windows script file. Before the creation of that BAT/SCRIPT file, XYplorer should allow me to place "action" on to all selected items, so this action can be "MD" which means create the folder or if I put "RD" means delete the folder and so on...

That sounds like a particular solution to a problem. If that problem is "How can I simplify/automate creating certain empty folder trees?" I think XYplorer's solution is easier. But, of course, it's always a matter of habit.

Hi, I have not yet tried XYplorer, but may I know what do you mean by "one-time work", does that mean I have to create (once) every folder and all its subfolders (if exist) manually as the "New Items" mentioned? If the answer is YES then I don't think it is practical, because my initial request/dream feature is to avoid that kind of creation. i.e. it is the work of creating folder-tree-structure that I wish I can save, not the easy of repeating the same creation...

I think a script or batch is still a better way because it is flexible to be used else where...

Ok, I probably misunderstood what you are looking for. When I hear "batch" I think of automating recurring tasks, and that's what the "New Items" menu is for. You create something (files, folders, folder trees) manually just one time, and then you can one-click-re-create it infinitely wherever and whenever you want. A real time-saver.

Here's another neat feature.

The ability to copy a whole folder structure, including all subfolders, to a different location, without copying the files inside those folders is a great time-saver.

Ok, let me do a little pitch for my app... Your dream has come true. It's already built into XYplorer, only in a far better way! 

You have to look at the New Items menu (under menu Edit): anything that is found in the "NewItems" subfolder of the app path -- including whole folder structures (empty or not so empty trees) -- is available for 1-click-creation (in the current folder) under the "New Items" menu.
How does stuff get into that magic "NewItems" folder? Handwork! You put in there whatever you want, just a one-time work, and XYplorer will list it in the "New Items" menu, ready for 1-click-creation wherever and whenever you want.
It's "New" on EPO!
