Hmm, I've always had the idea of my start up programs starting by a key held down or toggled on.. And here we go :D

So I can boot up my box, login to xp, and have caps/num/etc on or off, to get programs to start up? Like normal startup procedures?

Hi my name is mitzevo and I am a software addict, some times I think I spend more time playing around with software than actually using it for its purpose, for instance, I try test at least 3 apps from one category (ftp programs, text editors, etc.), it really is time consuming, but I'm just trying to find the best for myself and now I have no GBs!.. Can any one help me? I need extra GB's to store more softwares.. cmon guys, just email me how many GB's you want to help me out with and I will be happy to accept any thing! But I also store alot of (questionable?) things as well.. so yeah.. help me out with extra GB's!

I tried it.. It's not bad (and its code production is pretty clean.. should be in this age..) and pretty stream lined..apart from no decent templates, not even a mention of PHP any where.. i.e., not even a basic .php template.. How pathetic.. even for this free version.. Looks like m$ wants you to use their stuff (as usual).. but very very good for.. free :)

Living Room / Re: Best forums for....
« Last post by mitzevo on February 08, 2008, 05:42 AM »
There's thousands of good forums out there.. and of course you are asking opinions of others.. prepare to get any thing and every thing.. You can only be apart of so many and make use of it... with that said.. DC is the best (of course any body who says best is their own opinion..) for Software discussions (like the best of the best software ;).. and for other categories you are going to get a lot of different bests.. you know why? because the best is what you make of it!

Hi my names mitzevo and I'm a DC junkie :( I've tried to do away with the habit but I can't help my self.. I guess you could call me DC'aholic.. Or in plain terms software junkie, but I prefer DC junkie, I don't know why, other people say I scare them at times.. I just need to relax, they say.

 :'(

edit:

And welcome Denny! I'm glad you find DC worth the time for writing such a good intro :)

P.S., why does God never call me? :( . perhaps my phone is turned off.. hehe j/k :) Welcome welcome, DC is the best!

Official Announcements / Re: January 2008 Software Drawing Winners
« Last post by mitzevo on January 27, 2008, 09:41 AM »
There are a lot of people that donated to the site that have never made a single post. They have contributed and deserve to win just as much as anyone else.
Well then you add in a check to see if user has donated..

edit: so that's in effect then.

the problem with basing things on posts is that people might start posting just to reach that threshold
Yeah, it's quite obvious when people are trying to get their post count up (*cough*)..

So I guess my idea is null and void now.. lol.. I forgot about the people who donated / contributed offsite / etc and didn't make any posts here at the forum.
But if they can't even make one post and want to enter the comps.. shame on them.

ps1.
I'm happy to have more suggestions on how the prize optimizer could be tweaked -- so send me your suggestions!
I think people with less than 25 posts shouldn't be able to enter. So they don't imbalance all the others who actually contribute and etc.

ps2.
Due to Jibz' excellent detective work, users Darwin, superboyac, and dcm have been placed on the permanent BAN list and shall never win another prize  ;D  Please direct all hate mail to jibz and send him a nice big poisonous attack creature.  (just joking!)

Lolol. I actually asked today in IRC if any body had won more than 2 or 3 prizes.. :) And now Jibz has done some good snooping and presented the facts :)

The most important thing about this new development is that I need mitzevo to tell me the name of the visual style he is using in that screenshot, since it looks cool, and that would prove useful in the long term for a great number of people.

It's a Windows theme / Visual style from DeviantArt, called Clearlooks 0.6 Black by ~hsn , there are a few (or many) other variations with different colors, etc.

It's based of GNOME - nice and clean, oh and rounded corners is a nice change :)

Btw, Nighted was the one who made me discover it  :-* Cheers Nighted.

and..

I just have to say again I am happy about being able to change icons in x² :) Looks sooooo much better. Now I am not jealous of XYplorer :)

I usually use the editor default [colors], and If I'm lucky enough to config colors I ... hey wait I don't.

When I was trying out E I noticed the default (iirc) color scheme was black bg and different colors (or perhaps I changed to this one..). At first it was unusual, but then after trying it for a while I realized it makes editing files so much easier (very much like to do with the syntax hi-lighting), for example you go to edit a .ini file in E, it's so easy to tell sections and variables from stuff you don't need to concern your self with.. So I think colors definitely help if set up correctly :)

So.. some people use dark and light, or light on dark. I myself haven't joined any side yet :P

Hey, the latest addition of being able to have custom (and "default") icons is really great.. Now you can use x² as a full blown app, script, tool, etc. launcher and not have to see the same icons all over the place and forgot which is which [it was boring looking at all those hammers too]  :)

Here's what I've just started on (my current x² setup):

snap.gif

edit: yes I like a little bit of eye candy.. other people are just happy with keyboard shortcuts 8) but just like there are people who prefer using the keyboard to the mouse, there are also people who prefer (or just like) some good looking icons and visuals (while not sacrificing speed or slowing down the app in a huge way).. yeah so once again, I am happy I am not stuck with x²'s defaults icons and can customize x² more visually (no we are not going the keyboard shortcuts and screen realestate route :) )

P.S., Hopefully some people produce some cool icon sets for x² .

We don't mind!  :D

Idk really what to say with out acting like a semi-prick but..

DC is really a great community, if you decide to think about the small dis-tasteful things over the really great useful stuff (which is more than 97%), then that's your decision. Considering that thousands of other forums have useless crap and have thousands of idiots, DC is a gem in the rough.. Like you said, DC has become your home (or was), but you can't have every thing you want.. it's not fair.. other people like to talk about other things.. if you don't like what other people are discussing, don't read or even think about it.. sure, if it's really bad, then cut it out and it's more than fair to point it out that it's inappropriate.. but what you are talking about is just general discussions and chit-chat.

I mean if you find stuff on DC that is offensive to you (rarely the case), then there is no forum for you my friend, DC is one of the cleanest and most professional forums available, all for free... Nobodies perfect, why should DC be an exception? I'm sure with out some of the stuff you are talking about, DC would be dull and boring.. it's good to have a laugh here and there, and get along together.

if you ctrl+a, ctrl+c every 5 mins then a clipboard program would be better instead of having a program monitor each key you press and record..

Can some body please make a Dual-Screen Reverse?

And is it possible to have a Dual-Screen & Dual-Screen Reverse loaded at the same time, that you can easily switch between by moving the mouser to certain zone?

General Software Discussion / Re: Free virtualization options
« Last post by mitzevo on October 21, 2007, 09:27 AM »
Your best options are MS Virtual PC 2007, VMware Server (which is not just the player), and VirtualBox.. all are free.

And regarding the legalness of windows vm's (for download).. they are not legal.. that's why you find only *nix based "Virtual Appliances" at the the virtual appliances section at the vmware site.

« Last post by mitzevo on October 17, 2007, 11:59 AM »
productivity tools are good, just don't go looking for every thing that could help you.. you'll never get any thing done, sure.. you'll find all the tools and things but you won't get your original thing done - if that makes sense. But if you are a software junkie, it's fun finding the best of the best, finding the tools that can ease [computer] life, and etc. I'm trying to remember a quote about perfection or some thing.. some thing along the lines of "a programmer doesn't code perfect from the start" ... really I can't remember.. any one know?  :)

I think the traps are mainly with software junkies, people who try a lot of software.. if you were just joe black, who done some kind of work, and found one software to help with his work.. that's all there is to it.. but if you have a ton of software, and like (well in the beginning :P) playing with it, having the best of the best, etc., then things start getting tricky.. etc., I hope you know what I'm meaning  :tellme:
