i am in no way affiliated with pMachine, but i truly love its capability.

it doesnt work like a CMS as most CMS systems do.
i like it most cause it leaves the foundation of BUILDING A WEBSITE entirely up to you. code and design from the ground up. XHTML compliance is up to you. it really is a powerful CMS.

My short list of PDA devices:
Sony Clie TJ22 (palm OS)
Palm Zire 72 (palm OS)
Dell Axim X5 (Microsoft Pocket PC 2002)
and currently the Audiovox SMT5600 Smartphone (Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003)

With my first 4 devices, I still owned and regularly used a cell phone. I never really wanted to have the '2 in 1' concept (the smartphone). I didn't really mind carrying two gizmos with me.
Now, I don't think I could ever go back to 2 devices. My smartphone does everything for me.

Outlook sync with the calendar and address book.
For note taking, since it IS a smartphone and not a Pocket PC, it has no touch screen, so I use the voice-recorder extensively. I even have it on speed-dial. I leave myself notes almost daily of things to do, and I review them each night before going to bed.
It has a basic calculator with no other functions, but many freeware apps are available.
For my reminders, I use Outlook. About 15 minutes before a task is due to start, I have my device set to ring.
For securing sensitive data, I use Code Wallet Pro. It is available for both PPC and Smartphones at http://developerone.com/

Most other freeware can be found at many locations. One I recently found is: http://www.smartphone-freeware.com/

I don't remember where I found this neat little flash gallery, probably HotScripts.com. But I have XAMPP webserver on my XP machine for testing building offline webcontent for my site, and Sygate Personal Firewall installed.
Everytime I launch the little flash gallery, it wants to connect to the Internet. I suppose it's sending, or attempting to send, some user data? statistical information?

I dunno, but it's fishy, ya know?!

I used to know of some app that could break apart the .SWF file into its components (jpg, text, etc.) and let the user basically rebuild/recompile the SWF. I'd like to do that to the gallery script I am playing with.

Anyone recommend a tool?

oh no, i know VMWare is really demanding CPU intense app. I plan on just getting the smallest of the minis with the Combo drive (DVD-ROM/CD-RW).

Ask yourself if you're going to spend most of the time in parallels running windows apps - if so, don't bother with a mac.

naw, i know Macromedia Fireworks for web development/design is available for mac.
I'm certain there are equal applications for MAC for just about everything i use. i just haven't looked yet.

So my wife says she would get me a new computer for Christmas.
I mean, it's only fair cause I bought her one when we were just dating years ago, and now we been married a year in January 2007, she owes me one - RIGHT? LOL
She knows I'm a picky finicky fool, so it's a few days past Christmas cause she knows the better deals are yet to come.
Together, we been spending time on tomshardware.com & newegg.com.

We've managed to piece together a great model for under $1,000, including 19" monitor.

Problem is, I somehow how got sidetracked, as is common with my ADD, and started browsing Apple.com. I really dig the MacMini http://www.apple.com/macmini/

I AM JUST EFFING AMAZED!!!

Here's where I'm at right now:

Do you need an email-program-agnostic solution, which will run prior to any email client receiving the email (which would be an interesting program, sort of like a pop proxy which did regex replacement according to user script), or do you have an email client you want to write a script with (like thebat)?

ah yes, i remember TheBat. I really liked it, but when i bought my smartphone, i had to switch back to MS outlook. i currently use Thunderbird for my POP3 email.

Looking for something that I can only describe as an email stripper?

example scenario:
I use ABCbank.com for my online banking needs. They offer free personalized email alerts. So whenever I get my employer direct deposit, I receive an email stating such: Dear Sir, blah blah ... amount of $1,234.56 has been deposited in account 123xyz ... date 12/25/06 ... etc etc.
I get these emails to my Gmail account, and using its filter system, I have these emails forwarded to my cellphone (especially when I am urgently awaiting a deposit).
But the email usually tends to be about 4-5 pages at 160 characters each, cause text messages are limited to 160. I need smaller messages.

So basically I need an application or something that will strip all the unnecessary content of the email, except for what I require: dollar amounts, dates, account number, etc.


Someone may suggest a AHK script, but I'm not good at it yet. But then perhaps there is already something like this on the market? hhmm, I dunno. Maybe?

... If something fails in a transfer, it holds it in queue and tries again.  Several other FTP clients simply end the transmission. What a pain in the butt when your installing a CMS system with tons of files and don't know where it left off. I have never had that happen with Filezilla.

i find it to be extremely low on system resources.
and it DOES provide realtime stats.

WHAT DO YOU USE YOURS FOR?

I keep track of my software installations.
I create a new tiddler when I install a new application.
Using the table format, I take note of the software title, version number, site download, basic information, and I even go so far as to get the SHA-1 hash value.
I have this in a folder with all my installation files, and when ready to reinstall windows, I copy to a CD (along with the tiddlywiki file). aw man, i must reinstall windows about once every month or two.
I cant stop installing things, hahaha. thats why i love this forum so much.

I know how difficult it may be to maintain a forum as active as this one. The responsibilities are enormous. I can't imagine the traffic you now get from visiting members.

As for me, and my DC-addiction ... well, I am on the side of the USER. I do not code at all, so to that admission - I Thank All DonationCoders. Newbies, veterans, and trolls alike.
As long as everyone contributes something of substance to this growing community, I don't see any end in sight for this amazing site.

Then I would agree that a batch file that zips with encryption and then uploads is simple enough of a solution that a more formal one would be a waste. Especially since a short batch/script would be eminently more adaptable then a hardcoded solution.

SyncBack also needs registry access, but you don't have to be cautious with SyncBack. It's no malware.

oh, i have full 100% trust in the apps from 2BtightSparks.
i've used them many times before.

one of my faves, aside form SyncBack, is their Calculate Hash Value script. So useful when downloading from a developers site and they offer a MD5 or SHA-1 hash code.

The obvious reply is that almost any backup program these days does what you are looking for. Are you just looking for free or single purpose or something else?

i've used SyncBack a few times before. i actually used it before as a set-it-and-forget-it kinda thing.
i dont think Firefox 2 has this feature, but in 1.5, bookmarks were saved automatically in its own file. i had SyncBack sync it with another folder where i had all my essential files.

i did that with many files. i really like its wildcard * filter.
i had everything backed up and ready for CD archive without doing much work.



i started this whole thread in the hopes that perhaps someone would be able to take upon the task of coding a AHK script that incorporated 7-Zip for archive + encryption + FTP.
i'm fine doing it they way ive been doing it. just always on the prowl for something BETTER. ya know?!

1.I don't know German.
2.I did not see any new option in my Right-Click menu.
3.Am cautious of anything that enters something to my registry. I know it's needed for the Right-Click menu, but I can/will do without.

A Syncback Profile can be run from command line. That's the beauty... do some configuring once, configure a scheduler and fully automated backup to your FTP server.

An AHK script can do everything asked. Use 7Zip to pack, use a commandline ftp to upload, play sounds... all pretty easy to code, just takes time (I don't have, sorry).

User navigates to file/files in Explorer, selects them, RightClicks and selects the OPTION (a symphonic melody is played upon selection for added emphasis) .
The option would kick an AHK script (in the background) that launches 7-Zip, zips the files, then proceeds to FTP the file to a predetermined location on the server.

After the user selects the OPTION (another symphonic melody is played upon selection for more added emphasis) in the RightClick context menu, they are prompted by msgbox for:

• Archive filename (which should be prefixed by timedate stamp to prevent file overwriting)
• Archive format dropdown menu: 7z, Tar, Zip
• An unguessable Password + Password confirmation + Password Hint
• A Yes/No checkbox asking, "Would you like a HelpFile to be created?"

(HelpFile should be a text file that resides on their machine that lists the contents of the files in the archive, timedate stamp of the upload, and the hint of the password.)

User hits Submit, another msgbox appears confirming the above selections:

• filename
• format
• password
• a reminder that if they forget their password, nothing can be done to retrieve their files (or something to that effect).

So, I have an overactive imagination. LOL
