Find And Run Robot / Re: Weird bug

Just to be more accurate - that is FScript plugin, not FSubScript. I've tried with Console plugin that also uses FScript and the same thing happened.

a preliminary question:
what in the logs told you that it was fsubscript to blame?
Well, the last line in the FarrTroubleshooting.log was
*Loading plugin: FSubScript\FScript.dll
and it was not followed by Success or Failed message like the rest of the plugins :)

Find And Run Robot / Weird bug
« Last post by skajfes on September 18, 2009, 07:09 PM »
Today FSubScript is just not working anymore. As a matter of fact - FARR is not working because of it. A quick view at the logs showed that fusbscript is the root of all problems, so I deleted it and everything was working normally. What is weird about that is that it was working yesterday, and the day before, etc. And I haven't made any changes to the system (no new apps, drivers etc, no new plugins, not even my development versions - nothing) - it just refused to start.

Any ideas?

I don't know about you guys, but this solved all of my language related issues with FARR (and some other apps too). Go to Regional and Language options in Control Panel - select the Advanced tab, and under the Language for non-unicode programs select your language. Press OK.

Am I missing something? Couldn't you change plugin alias by defining an override in the plugin settings? Simply go to Options - Settings - Plugins and Updates - Click to examine and configure plugins. Then find the plugin you want to change the alias that launches it and type in another alias or regex in their respective override fields.

For example, in the attached image you can see that I have overriden FarrUninstall's default alias unstall with a shorter one - un

Find And Run Robot / Re: FARR alt tab 2.0 beta

I think I've already asked about that (in a little bit different form, though) but got no answer.

Anyway, my idea of acomplishing this was with using a plugin that can always add results to the list even if it's not triggered. Kind of like modified FarrAltTab takes over the launching and switches to an open window. But a more elegant solution would be to add a list of open windows to the search results and let FARR score them as usual.

Now that is basically the same as you are already talking about.

Cool, I am glad that it's working. I think that it's maybe better to keep any future discussion in this thread.

Find And Run Robot / FARR alt tab 2.0 beta
« Last post by skajfes on September 06, 2009, 08:29 AM »
I've made some modifications to the FarrAltTab plugin (with permission from Vitalyb) to prevent opening multiple instances of an application. For example - if you already have Firefox open and you try to run Firefox from FARR, it will switch to an already open instance of Firefox instead of opening another instance.

Plugin idea and known bugs are discussed here.

This is still a beta because I currently have no time to implement options for the plugin but I still want to share it with you and maybe get some feedback about bugs and desired options and features.

Installation:
Go to c:\farr-install-dir\plugins\
backup FarrAltTab folder
extract the contents of the zip to that folder.
restart farr.
enjoy

Find And Run Robot / Re: Numpad key requires hitting Enter to launch numbered result
« Last post by skajfes on September 04, 2009, 02:18 AM »
For me it's like this: when i try to launch a normal search result with numpad i just press the desired number and it launches. But when I am in directory browsing mode then numpad autocompletes folder names. I don't know if this is intended or not but I like this behaviour.
161
I'd prefer a solution that does not change the FARR input box to switch between normal / extended result list like for example a keyboard shortcut. And use up/down to scroll through the results as was once suggested by justice.
That was a great idea. I wonder what happened with that?

The ++ modifier is a great idea. That gets +1 vote from me
Except that the ++ modifier is used to pass arguments to the resuts...

Find And Run Robot / Custom context menu items
« Last post by skajfes on September 01, 2009, 04:08 PM »
As I understand it, plugins can add custom context menu items, right? Can those menu items be assigned a hotkey? For example I want to add a delete command to context menu and assign it the Delete key so when I press a delete on an item that would cause some action (in this case delete a file).

My idea is for adding basic entries like cut, copy, delete and paste to the context menu, and more importantly assign them a keyboard shortcut for quick access. I know I could just click on Shell context menu and then copy but that's just not it.

Or should this maybe better be a core FARR feature?

Try going to options - settings - hotkeys. Double click on your hotkey, and then check the "set search text below" option and delete everything from the textbox below. That should clear the search string every time you call Farr.

That is exactly why mouser implemented two launch methods because for some opscure reasons one is working for some, and the other for the rest.

Install the latest version (2.77.02). I think this feature was broken for some time but is now fixed.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Can FARR be used to switch between open windows?
« Last post by skajfes on August 30, 2009, 07:13 AM »
Mouser, I need your help. I have a shortcut that links to Gmail. It was created with Chrome's create application shortcut feature. This is in fact a link to chrome.exe, with an argument. Shrotcut's path looks like this:
"C:\Documents and Settings\skajfes\Local Settings\Application Data\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" --app=https://mail.google.com/mail
When I call FARR's resolvelnk command on that shortcut I get only the exe, without the argument. Is it possible in some way to get the argument? Or do you maybe have another idea on how to distinguish this link from from Chrome that is already running?

Another thing. Microsoft Office. The people at microsoft have great ideas as always, so the Microsoft Office Word.lnk in start menu resolves as c:\windows\installer\{90120000-0030-0000-0000-0000000ff1ce}\wordicon.exe so there's no way of distinguishing office windows.

I am thinking about adding an option to allow users to specify a list of links with mappings that would resolve both of these problems. For example, user would specify that Gmail.lnk should be matched by chrome.exe app and Gmail in caption. Microsoft Office Word.lnk should be matched by winword.exe etc...

Find And Run Robot / Re: Can FARR be used to switch between open windows?

I'm certainly in favor of the simplest approach that gets the job done.  So what would happen if there are multiple windows open, as with the examples I gave earlier?
Windows explorer automatically activates a window if there's a same folder already open, so that is of no concern.
For now the plugin will activate the first window it finds that has the same path to the executable as the executed file. Outlook is a special case as it runs all of it's windows (main program, new message, etc) as the same process. Unless there are multiple outlook instances running.

I am thinking about maybe adding an option for a "preferred keyword" in the window title. So, first the plugin searches by executable file name, then if it finds more that one result, checks the resulting widows captions for preferred keywords. If no keywords are matched or multiple windows has the same keyword the first result is launched (as there is no way to distinguish windows further)

List of progams to always switch to if found running:
[SIMPLE TEXT BOX, EACH PATH ON ITS OWN LINE]

In fact, my original idea was just this. Compare executable files and that's about it. User must specify a list of single instance apps.

Find And Run Robot / Re: Can FARR be used to switch between open windows?

Anyway, this seems to work on occasion, I tested it for the entire duration of 15 seconds, and about two or tree test cases :)

So let us think about options a bit:
- there should be a list of apps that should have only one instance
- or a list of apps to let have multiple instances
- some options about comparing (using path and caption or anything) that could help determining what instance to switch to (if more are running)

yep, it's already there.

call
FARR.get_strvalue("resolvelnk:thepathtothelnkfile")
and farr will return the path to the exe
I had to modify vitalyb c# SDK a bit for this to work though. But any excuse for digging into c++ is good enough :)
