I am also looking for a solution that would bith work in 32bit and 64bit modes under Windows 7, which means that it would show up properly under both 32 and 64 bit applications file dialogs.

My favorites are K-Meleon, Elinks and Lynx beside Firefox. I use Epiphany and K-meleon(under wine) on my Ubuntu. To be honest K-meleon under Wine is faster than any browser on Ubuntu except console browsers like Elinks and Lynx. K-Meleon offers nice range of default tools, very accesible. The only thing I wish to have is an .mht exporter Such thing exists. Beside all those plusses, K-Meleon never wishes to be an ambitious project like Firefox.

sorry I do not know the details. But it is basically a simple text file with files names with descriptions. Try NDN link I gave it creates them nicely, although I do not know if there are different implementations or not.

You know XYplorer is a great tool, no competition there. I was not even disputing its greatness. The tag and commenting stuff in XYp is also great  within itself, but it is useless outside of XYplorer. That is my original dispute. You can put all the greatness within but it would be useless to non XYp users and network users. And obviously expecting everyone to use it is unreal. Here is another problem I have already mentioned. I work in a team environment like many other people(some are over VPN). And there is no way to really share all those tags, comments with others. First I need to force everyone to use XYplorer then we need to figure a way to share those local databases. I think that this is an important issue and this is where .ion files stupidly simple and primitive functionality goes over the database kind of stuff.

I have started using NDN as my secondary file commander(with dos interface), it has great descript.ion support editing and viewing.  I love XYPlorer but I hate the fact that I can not use anything else to see my notes and tags, also it does not save them automatically so it is prone to loosing them in case of a crash which happened to me in the past.  Also the other problem with contained database files is that it makes it very hard share thsoe files across VPNS,and networks which makes it hard to use it in a team environment, plus extra licencing fees just to see the tags.

Anyways XYplorer is a great application by and within itself just that it does not support more accepted file description formats. Thus NDN is a good free choice and works on all platforms if you choose .ion format

Tomos, I actually bought one of those vertical mice stuff but I sent it back because handling was not well suited for me. I mean it worked ok but once in a while I needed to hold it up and move it back to put at a comfortable position on the mouse pad, and that was not very comfortable for me. Although this one is from another company so the result might be different

Hi

I am thinking to buy a new trackball. At the moment I mainly use my Wacom pad, Logitech G9(good mouse), n52 Gamepad and Logitech marble trackball, but I need a convenience trackball for my left hand when it is not on the keyboard. The L marble trackball is fine for general work but I need something better. I am looking for non wireless devices(sick of changing batteries)

I read couple good reviews about this laser one for example. It is little pricey but if it is good I am sure I can get some juice out of it. Also my wrist is more important than the price of the trackball in the long run Plus it will be an office investment.

What I like about Python is that there are applications out there that use Python as internal scripting engine which makes it more available. That way I do not need to learn every other scripting engine that applications might require.

For example Open Office, Gnumeric and Gnucash offer Python scripting

If you know little programming, you can use various very convenient Python libraries to achieve what you need. There are alot of nice and easy 2d-3d image libraries for Python.

What I like about Pyscripter is that you do not need to save a script to run the script. So I use it as scratch pad frequently although it offers very sophisticated tools.  I am addicted to Vim and MicroEmacs, so for me using any other editor to write scripts is not that much fun. On the  other hand if you are starting Python I think that Pyscripter is very well defined tool and it helps alot along the  way. One other nice thing with Pyscripter is that it has inline Python shell and it is very light weight compared to Eclipse or Netbeans.

mouser, would  you mind explaining basic differences between C++ and Python oop stuff? I just have very small understanding of C++. The main programming languages I have ever used are Tubo Pascal 5 and Python

Here is my current conclusion

I think that the best Python editor is
Vim(gvim) + Ipython(when possible)
There are some scripts for Vim under Linux that makes Ipython embedding possible inside Vim. But on Windows I could not find any viable option to have a sensible Python shell inside Vim



the best Python IDE is
Eclipse+Pydev+Vim(via Eclim)+Vrapper(Vim commands inside Eclipse)


I know that WingsIde and Komodo Ides are pretty neat too, but they are way out of my budget. To me writing Python code is more about having some fun and learning so my needs are mainly about editing speed, searching etc. I do not have needs like Team environment and serious source code versioning.

Well, Console has this thing with Windows desktop, it shows up the desktop in the background the whole time, not sure if there is a solution to that. On the other hand ConEmu has quite a bit of settings and can be used easily with things like FAR

I also use Conemu with Ipython, seems like theya re good match.

I think you should give it a go and let us know what you think. I am not an expert on these issues

That I do not remember. But my suspicion is that another program or a plugin might have set it up. I am using something called ConEmu that can embed FAR by default. That is my first suspicion

FAR is in active developement as far as I can tell. I definitely recommend it if you are into dualpane dos stuff.

Come to think of it, that particular implementation of Windows shell can be quite dangerous considering that it is also put deep in the registry, how would one figure it out if something fishy is going on or not if the shell does not producue any error really?

mouser, that sure was a big mistake. I am also ashamed to admit that I was using the wrong search terms But really up until today it did not occured me that there would have been an auto execution thing at cmd runtime.
